My bad brother. I'm doing a "quick and dirty" cfl grow (2 plants under cfls in a wardrobe). Your advice is greatly appreciated. Your tone in some of your posts seemed to be mocking cfl growers--novices in particular. I should have read more carefully.

I felt like you were stepping on my dream man. A day after I go and spend 30 bucks on cfls (5 26 watt and 1 68 watt) I come on here and read about how much of a moron I am for going to the store to buy cfls.

Have you, or do you know anybody who has used one of these 150 watt 70 buck hps+balst setups??(all I need for a wardrobe methinks--with some cfls on the side)
Forgot to mention that quick and durty is my middle name!...

likewise! :eyesmoke:

Im curious as too how much heat this thing is gonna put off, and im curious as to how many more im gonna order before im done with this grow lol
I dont have one of those bro but i will bust the thermometer out tommorow and do a side by side comparison from a 42 watt cheapy hps to a 42 watt cfl from home depot.

On another note, Bro before u go and drop a bunch of dubs on a bunch of those fixtures tell me what the actual ammount of space ur plants are growing in?... It has nothing to do with the size of the room..U really dont need a huge expensive hps lamp if u utilize the space ur plants reside in see what im saying?

Sweet, i'd love to know what the temps on those are, im gonna put 42 watt CFL's on the Y splitters during flower

They're grow area is 3' 7'' long, 2' 4'' deep, and 5' tall. Yea no doubt, placement is a big thing. I was thinkin i would just plop it right in the middle with CFL's all around too lol. 42 watt CFL's are way cheap around here lately, something about conserving power lol so they're only about $1 for a 42 watter :bigjoint:

Alright bro lets round it down..3.5 X 2.5 seems close... Which leads to 8.75 sq.ft and if U take the least amount of reccomended hps which is reccomended would be 40...8.75X40=350 watts of hps lighting is what ur going to want to get maximum yield on ur plants.... Get a few of these 150 watters for 20 bux dude and see what happens...5 would be better...
I heard it better said by another grower here...OVERGROW

btw IVE SEEN SOME1 USING 1 X 250W CFL ENVIROLITE 6400K (FOR VEG)

and @ 2weeks old it looked more bushy much more foliage than 99% of grow journals ive read threw ..from what ive seen a power full cfl gives much better penetration and so much new growth its quite shocking!! he has it about 1-2inch's from his plants and they have no strech whatsoeva i will try get him to take some pics they go into flowering on the 13--dec...

Yea, i wanna see how this 1st one is, and i just might get a few of these 150 watters and just get some used reflectors even. i have an old reflector that im gonna try with this one thats coming, hopefully it works ok. The main thing im worried about is heat, but ill work it out somehow lol.

For all the CLF haters out there- must be nice to have a big open grow room where the heat from those things can be dispersed and you can have 10 plants grow huge but....
For all those of us that do closet grows with 1 maybe 2 plants max, HPS is not worth your money... it takes almost 11 months for you to get ur money back in the energy spent with HPS and NO!!! HPS set ups are not 32$ lol are you crazy!!... maybe a few bulbs but lets not forget you need a serious ventalation system with the heat output, a suspended set up of some kind and the money for your energy bill to go up a conciderable amount= more money spent on that for your 1 or 2 plants. Unless like i said you have a lot of plants, no doubt that you will have bigger buds and higher yeild but lights are only 1/2 of your equation.
I suggest if you want to go with CLF's make sure you maximumizing the potiential of the other key componets like have 4X150 watt suspended 4 inchs above the plant, trim and discared all of the bottom fan leaves (wasted energy) and the light doesn't penetrate that far anyways, make sure your nutes are perfect and have the area lined in reflective material.

Consider your conditions before choosing HPS it might get ya into more trouble than there worth... GL:eyesmoke: and happy tokin:)

R U seriuos...U must feel like a complete idiot @ this point considering if U read this entire thread U will see im here trying to show people, after many cfl grows the latest and greatest resources available to them at YES-A 42 watt HPS starting @ 32 BUX @ a store very near to most(HOME DEPOT) check out the security lighting isle..NUFF SAID on that..
Damn bro id prolly never post again IF i was U..
Do ur research?
I HAVE on the job....

Furthermore, ITS insane for people to try and downgrade what im trying to do here only because they dont either take the time to read a thread or they dont like things they dont understand.

CFL Haters?

I still veg with CFL (blue spectrum)and am very successfull with them, VEGGING tight short,NODE filled plants that absoloutely blow up during flower with HPS (RED spectrum)

If you dont understand why read the following, Ive posted this many X and dont feel like posting it any more.

I dont think it has a whole lot to do with lumens/sq.ft. myself...

I think what I should really be worried about is:
Total Watts/sq.ft.X Total spectrum/lumens of light source @ plants different life stages of growth..

And the Spectrumxlumens/sq.ftXlight source...

With that being said, Yes plants do use all light spectrums to grow obviously. With enuff light of any type i suppose u could grow a plant to smoke. But thru out a plants life span It grows and matures during the seasons of its environment. Whether next to the equator or not it all comes down to light being bent by the distance of the earth from the the sun that creates spectrums when it enters our atmosphere and distance from the sun also creates these seasons naturally.
Its been scientificaly proven that plants use mostly blue light spectrum (actinic ) to be exact, found in alot of m/h bulbs during early stages of life also found during seasons of spring and summer and fall. This spectrum is also found in hps and that cfl only tries to mimmick but works great if ur doing a stealth grow.
Its also been proven that during a plants latter stages of life adolescence, puberty and maturation. That a plant uses more Red light spectrum to mature and reproduce Which happens during fall and winter when the distance of the sun from the earth is greater.

Hope this helps peeps out making decissions when building a grow.

Stealth growers should be concerned with this as well:

Growth Production and Light emittence= Quality and Quantity+time
Time=money Devided by light eficiency and quantitiy.

Blue spectrum ( cfls m/h )= growth for veg
Red ( hps ) spectrum= Reproduction and maturation x quantity for flower

PEACE

How much did that HPS cost at Lowes/HomeDePot? I know a lot of people use cfls cuz they sell em at the dollar store, but when you start getting into the upper wattages, CFLs become rediculously expensive.

I see a lot of people all over that $20 150w HPS now so the word is spreading.

If you guys wanna see a 23w CFL grow in action stop by my thread. It's just gearing up so the best is yet to come. ;-)
WTF??? was the whole grow from that ONE cfl????? then how did my plants eat shit at 2cfls growing over them??????????????

everybody is confusing me with their different facts ARR my head will burst soon!!!

also im really fucked up about these 10001 different but apparently all true facts... lol im soo far twisted its not even funny i cant retain any info anymore X(

i need a clear and cut number... >_< brand even.

so let me get this straight... if i buy 9 6500k Cfls... and ONE 150w hps. and use them for my little DWC that can hold 8 plants, i can make a sog with a yield of 1oz per plant if i use 8 6500k cfls for vegging and that ONE 15w hps for flowering????? each plant yielding 1oz and their all between 1.5-2.5 feet tall?

if thats wrong, can i get a solid answer???

Dude imma new grower and after seeing bomdiggity's cfl grows in gatorade bottles, Im sold on cfl, either way. I mean im just experimenting ne way, so Ill find out soon enough. Yall should check his grow out, your eyes will literally bug out.

https://www.rollitup.org/cfl-growing/132387-fantastic-fluoro-frenzy-252wcfl-grow.html

Now unless he is tricking us all, CFL's work and work splendidly if ya do it correctly, but notice he uses top of the line nutes in his pics.

Awesome Keep in mind that those buds shown also had some hps available to them during flower.I could not imagine only growing with cfls anymore.
Anyhow all that was intended with this thread was to show people when working on a budget that they had alternatives when venturing out to home depot or lowes to get some cfls.. The 70 watt hps equivelant to 400 watt hps light they sell at home depot was 79 bux when i got it. They also sell a 42 watt hps equivelant to 200 watt hps for like 32 bux. Lowes sells a 150 watt hps for like 107 bux.
onthedl what do you mean hps = hps? if it uses a 70 watt hps then it is a 70watt light period. if i uses a 42 watt hps bulb then it is a 42 watt hps light(doesnt exist) . im thinking your talking about the giant cfls they are still just cfls and the larger number really means nothing to us.

hps= high pressure sodium
mh= metal halide

these are types of h.i.d.'s = high intensity discharge lights

cfl= compact flourescent twistys =cant be h.i.d.'s

now can you explain what lights your talking about at depot ?? i was there and at lowes today lowes has 100watt hps clearanced for 21 bucks and 150s for 85 but all bulbs were broken:(

Bro in the home security lighting isle u will find a 42 watt hps fixture for 22 bux At home depot...I understand everything about the fdifferent types of lighting bro... I was at home depot today helping a friend set-up his own grow spot and he bought 2 of these. I gave him a few clonese to get started with.

Same as is what they claim i really dont understand it myself haha... The lumens output is equivalent but nevertheless they are still hps lamps with bulbs maade by some of the same distributers being sold in some of the high end set-ups u find at the dro store and online... I promise..

Same as i think is there marketing ploy.

We all know that hps wattage is hps wattage.

ok if it is a 42 watt high pressure sodium then it eaquals 42 watts . the only time they would use an equivlent number would be on cfl i.e. a 23 watt cfl = 100 watt incandecent. but we are still only getting 23 watts out of it for growing . do you get what im saying ?? i never saw odd numbered hps either 50-70-100-150-250-400-600 so on . the security lights at depot are cfls thats why they gave you the equivlent . can you take a picture of the package ??? they might = two hundred watts of incandescent. all 42 watt cfls = 200 watt incandecent lightbulbs. im not trying to start any shit i just think they confuse consemers with lots of numbers on the box..

ok i just checked they dont make 42 watt hps google it ! its a big cfl.

sorry but i knew something sounded funny haha

and you know i love cfls im burnin 16 right now

LOL Bro ur not gonna find anything twisted in thus here thread...Im going to go take a pic of the actual fixture as well as the actual Hps lamp sold by Phillips GE

LMAO DAWG Come correct or dont come at all... Maybe u should stop posting altogether at this point and change ur screen name 4 people realize ur ...Not Educated enuff to be speaking on such matters.

LOL This is on edit for wink dogg

Sorry man but heres the proof in the put in One single 42 watt hps being sold in the home security isle at home depot right now for 22 bux.....

Furthermore, Lumens/sq.ft. is not the same between The different lighting described...Ive gone into detail on that as well just read the entire thread to learn how specific spectrums created by the lighting greatly benfit plant growth in different stages..

If u want i can direct u to a thread on lumens/sq.ft. as well lmao

nice pics but i'm not convinced..... i truly believe it has a lot to do with the grower and the amount of stress applied..... i saw a guy on here with a cola from cfl's that make these look malnourished... my mouth started to water when i saw his pics.... and from there people were going crazy with cfl questions... so now my mind is made up... its not the lights...its the grower.....well..... the lights do have a huge part to play.... but every little mistake that a grower makes... the plant has to clean up the mess... and it takes time to clean up the mess.. and the amount of time the plant wastes cleaning up a growers mess,..which from my understanding... effects colas in the end

just show me a pic of a 42 watt high pressure sodium bulb and i will humbly admit defeat but untill THEY CREATE ONE here is pics of the 70 watt and 100 watt fixtures they sell at depot. like i said i wasnt trying to be a dick but you obviously took it wrong just like you read the package WRONG. there are no 42 watt hps bulbs anywhere.

would someone else back me up here im just saying 42 watt hps doesnt exsist i dont know why you would then insult my intellagence for politely correcting your mistake.

sorry for spelling im a bad typer
