Just in case if anyones wondering out there what the most cost effiecient and best thing to do would be...I put his thread together.

Ive included pics of my latest project to show the clear and major differences in results of using hps lighting vs cfl lighting during flower cycle.
Keep in mind when considering size as shown that these colas were grown on the same plant so the difference is going to be even more drastic without any hps lighting introduced into the flower room.
Also, the hps used on these particular plant is actually only a 32 dollar same as 350 watt hps security light found in the home security lighting isle at either lowes or home depot, which i was able to keep 4 inches from the tops of the plants!
After seeing the final results of what to expect, I have to ask, if ur at the depot getting cfls, why would ya not hit the security lighting section and at least pick up a cheap hps? I should have picked up 3 of these lamps lol, ive easily got more than a hundo in cfls burning right now!

Depends on the bulb u purchase, u can look them up b4 u purchase, or look on the box to see life expectancy hours. They start anywhere from 20,000 and go up really. Hope that helps.

not sure how long the bulb lasts but i replace mine every 3rd gro. i do know that the mh dont last as long as the hps and they all slowly fade over time and by fade i mean lika 400w bulb that produces 55000 lumens new over time the lumens go down

How much did that HPS cost at Lowes/HomeDePot? I know a lot of people use cfls cuz they sell em at the dollar store, but when you start getting into the upper wattages, CFLs become rediculously expensive.

I see a lot of people all over that $20 150w HPS now so the word is spreading.

If you guys wanna see a 23w CFL grow in action stop by my thread. It's just gearing up so the best is yet to come. ;-)

CFLs and T5/10s are great for veggin but HPS is the way to go... I run a 1000w. vent into my veg room keeps it right around eighty in the winter. In the summer I just vent thru.. But Fluros for veggin same quite a bit of dough if you got two rooms goin.

Awesome Keep in mind that those buds shown also had some hps available to them during flower.I could not imagine only growing with cfls anymore.
Anyhow all that was intended with this thread was to show people when working on a budget that they had alternatives when venturing out to home depot or lowes to get some cfls.. The 70 watt hps equivelant to 400 watt hps light they sell at home depot was 79 bux when i got it. They also sell a 42 watt hps equivelant to 200 watt hps for like 32 bux. Lowes sells a 150 watt hps for like 107 bux.

I know hps is best for flowering but all I have is an MH that was given to me and cant afford anything else. Will it work allright for flowering? It must be better than cfls right?

MH is a solid producer; they do especially well with sativas. Just give buds an extra week or two to fatten up before you harvest.

Hey thanks a lot Faux. Its a 400w mh that I built a box for today and am trying to find a way to blow air through it for cheap. I have a little 5" fan I took apart and rigged inside a plastic sleeve but the air doesn't seem real strong. Maybe it will be enough.

Damn computer difficulties!
Nozzle nice name by the way lol!
All mh did for me when introducing it to my flower room was make my plants grow tall uncontrollably and gave some of my girls balls and seeds on an otherwise seedless batch.
I think its cuz In nature and during life cycles plants grow with specific spectrums given by the sun in different seasons.
Plant use blue (actinic) spectrum during the summer to begin there life and mature into the sex roles they assume. ( 65k daylight cfls-True actinic halide lamp ) give these spectrums.
Plants use red light during fall to winter to flower, bud and reproduce.(hps lamps produce specific spectrums plants use the most during reproduction, as do 2700k cfls offer these spectrums)
I personally think u would be better of with ur cfls directly above ur colas and investing in a cheap hps fixture ranging from 32 bux.
The pix are at the top. If you want Fully matured, fat dense buds in the end, then spend that 32bux bro trust me.

By the way the biggest cola in the pic grown under the hps lamp wieghed in at 19 grams dried.
The heaviest dried cola on that palnt grown under the cfl was 6 grams dried.
