oh i meant the top rated temp for the diodes is 85c, mine never exceed 78c but i should put a fan on them, i do have an extra clip on fan doing nothing right now lol
Is there a max safe operating temp? My heatsinks never go above 86 degrees Fahrenheit. I' blown away you guys are running yours at 75 degrees celcius.

yes the operating range of diodes according to samsung is -40C to +85C and max storage temp is -40C to +120C. i guess it could also depend on the design of the fixture

i run my boards hard, although only 1400ma and HLG states max current of 1600ma for the qb304 (115-120v). i figure if they last a couple years i'm more than happy, i'll probably be replacing them before they die anyways

Also, someone asked this questions earlier and I finally hooked up my Kill-a-Watt. Each driver draws 220 watts after warming up. So this light will be 880 watts. The temps of the boards top out at 120F when driven without a heatsink. I've read that the top of the QBs heatsink hit 70-75C (158F-167F) . Again that's the temp with a heatsink. Crazy difference. How does that temperature affect efficiency?
I'm going to dial my lights back and based on what I'm running my other boards with this diode layout (Photon Fantom) I expect the temps of the top of the boards to hover just over 100F.

If, then you have to compare both with similar load. Yours run only with about 100w per board.
So the temps are mainly different because the QB run at around 150w to reach 75°C and also with 10% less diodes.
You should run your boards at ~160w and compare temps again then it would be a fair test.

Solid point. If I was to run these on a 2100mA driver the most I'd get would be 140 watts.

Sounds like my issue must be the driver. I took apart the troublesome section and ran each board individually on the driver and they would both start up but then turn off after about 8-10 minutes. Maybe I should double check my wiring on the cord. But the next step will be to get a new driver and see if that fixes the problem. I'm going to need a few anyway for the new boards coming. Any other suggestions?

Yeah that's almost certainly a faulty driver.

That's realy sounds like a driver defect. Can happen sometimes but I'm pretty sure you will get a new one simply because it's a Meanwell driver ;-)

yes i have a feeling that's what it is - they probably have piles of these 561b diodes or boards already made and now no one wants them anymore, and soon enough people won't want the 561cs either it'll be the 301bs or whatever. ha ha ha. a friend was considering purchasing these boards off ebay, 2x 308 boards for $150 euro ... i think they are the wrong type and told her i hope she hasn't already purchased ...



@chuckduck i really look forward to following your progress - it will be interesting to see if there is much difference between the 2 sides of your tent. i guess it'd be hard to gauge unless you were monocropping the same clones or something, and there will be quite a bit of overlap near the center. a lux/par meter will be interesting to see as well.

either way i'm sure they both will produce great, so i guess you can look at it like you paid full price for the lm561c and got the lm561b for $17.50 a board... not too bad! maybe i'll ask him if he'll sell the 561B boards for $20 each :D after seeing some par numbers hopefully :D

Sorry, but the diodes looks like LM561b or b+!
A few pages back are some macro shots of true LM561c!
These boards are overpriced, for 75€ a piece you get real Quantumboards.
You can get similar boards with 336 of these LED's for half the price. Links are already posted somewhere in the thread.

Especially when the other boards costs exactly the same I would always prefer the originals.
The selller has exactly 3 products on e3ay and looks like a private who's trying to make some extra cash with re-selling these boards as well as COB/heatsink kits and small 60w Meanwell drivers.
I have no problem with that, he should only convince himself that he sells real ones if he claims it. Otherwise, if he act willfully or at best be negligent, both can cause problems if someone opens a case against the seller.
Ebay offers buyer protection so you can at least get your money back, but in the worst case, he has to expect an expulsion if he acted willfully.

sorry if I intrude in the discussion and I apologize already in advance for my bad English. I buy from the guy on ebay (the one that sells two pcb cards at € 150) the lamp complete and I paid € 750 should arrive at the beginning of January. I also ordered 8 pcb cards from alibaba from two different suppliers, even those arriving in mid-January. you may be interested I keep you updated

For European buyers, I am about to receive some boards to test from a shop within Europe.It has 342 lm561c s6 az bin.This shop will also provide me an apogee sq-520 to take different reading from different distance and configuration.They say board is completely passive up to 2100 mA with a little airflow inside tent.Hope this could help other people struggling to find genuine board within Europe

I bought both hansion and mofue and I paid $ 40 per pcb And Jeff from hansion confirms having sold the pcb board to ledgrowsolutions in Spain
Did you manage to buy just 1 or 2 boards or did u had to place a bigger order?
