thanks boston, i think everything is gonna be ok, i have plenty of air flow for a box that is 21 x 24 x 48, 3 - 80mm fans and a 5" fan for exhaust, a 6" and an 80mm fan for intake, an 8" for air movement and blowing on the lghts to cool them, and 1 - 80mm sucking air out from under the hood.

yesterdays overnight dark period saw a low of 75. the temps for today were still at 84 but spikes to a max of 86 every now and then. the hum went to a high of 30% during the dark period last night. the hum for day went back down to 20%.

my sister is gonna take me to home depot today so i can get 2 - 2" 90 elbows, got this little cool box a/c unit all figured out, ill have pics later when i get it all hooked up, this thing is gonna be the shits, LoL.

the beans have cracked, 10 pm, 1 has an 1/8" tap and the other has just started to crack the shell, should be ready to put in the dirt later tonight, 2 nice bag seeds and both germed, pretty cool, right at 72 hours. ill have more later and pics, goin back to sleep a while, LoL.

also, im using 6 bulbs, 5 - 23 watt 2700k and 1 - 23 watt 6500k bulb for a total of 138 watts and 9600 lumens. i used 1 6500k bulb just to mix up the light spectrum. im thinking about adding 4 more 23 watt 2700k. i will hang 2 from each side of the hood and that will give me a total of 244 watts and 17000 lumens. still thinking about this due to heat concerns.

ok people, here it is, the ghetto, blade home made, grow box mini a/c cool box unit. i took a kitty litter jug, i cut around the top so that it fits right back over itself. the 2" elbow fits snug over the top, the intake fan draws the air in through the top pipe, over the frozen ice packs, and delivers frosty ice cold air into the grow box, waiting now to see the difference in the temps. hopefully, the ice packs stay frozen throughout the whole 18 hours of the light cycle. the starting temp was 84 and hum was 16%. the over night dark temp went down to 73 and the hum up to 37%. once im able to move my dresser over some, im gonna put the cool box between the grow box and the dresser.

the beans have popped, 1 tap root is about a 1/2" and the other 1 is just starting to pop out, but i put them both in any ways. now the fun begins, waiting to see the green, LoL. total time for germination was about 60 hours. 1 thing i did notice, the pot closer to the intake fan dries out a little quicker than the far 1, have to keep an eye on this. the next thing im gonna work on is sealing up the light leaks around the door and the intake fan. well thats all for now, time to smoke a bowl, LoL. heres some pics. ill post later if the temps come down, later

Great little unit, CD! I'm sure we can brainstorm a way to keep cool air going without melting, haha! When I was testing the temps the other day I noticed opening a window dropped the box's temp by 2 degrees in 45 mins. It's below 0˚C here in the evening, though, haha! Well, just gonna keep checking in, can't wait to see those beans crack!!!

if nighttime temps are just getting down to 75, then that means your lowest possible ambient with lighs on during the day is 75 and probably a little higher since its daytime. That box is as cool as it's gonna get if its only running at 84. You need to turn the heater down or the AC on and get your ambient/nighttime temps to 70.

thanks fred, i'll figure it out.

hey don, its still kinda cold here in FL at night, i dont think my sister will let that happen, LoL.

hey goodoleboy, good idea, ive been reading about lighting schedules and all my tests have been 18/6, thinking about trying 16/8 and then 12/12. but i will change the lights to be on at night when its cooler. the max temp has been 84 with spikes to 86, i think ill be safe with that, but i do wish i could get both dark and light period temps down some, ill keep working on it.

in the pic, you can see the temps and the 1st bean has broke the surface.

thanks man, me too, LoL. my sister found me a knob for the box, she says its 42 years old??? and a pic of the cool box, it didnt work as good as the idea did in my head, but hey, i tried. im not done with it yet, still gonna mess around with it. i mean it worked, but just didnt last long.

so the temp has settled in at 86, i guess thats it, being bag weed, im just gonna let it go and hope for the best. i am gonna get another 12 6" car fan like the main intake to replace the bathroom fan thats blowing on the light, that thing sucks. the car fan has very good flow for $10.

i moved the main exhaust fan down lower. i think i will put a 120mm fan in the hole at the top where it was.

sounds good main and remember dude heat rises so if u may divert ure ghetto ac unit to the top of the box as the cool air drop's down it may help to cool the box just a thought maybe a wast of time, but either way u should be all gravy at 86degrees man i know u'd prefer a lil cooler but i'm sure they'll be ok at that

ok, so 1 of the plants is doing great, the other, not so good. it looks very stunted and doesnt have the 2 leaves that pop out first, just 1 small like fan leaf, very weird??? ive got another bean germinating right now that i started last night and its already showing a small tap coming out. should be ready late tonight to put in the pot. this means the plants will be 5 days apart. temps still running at 86 with spikes of 88, but i have the down to 5" above the plant.

i have pulled the runt plant and have now put the other germinated seed into the pot at 8 pm, this seed germinated with a 3/8" tap root in less than 24 hours. i lowered the lights to 4" above the plant and the temp is running 84 but is bouncing between 82 and 86 and the hum is 39%, things are looking good so far.

day 3 for the little sprout and its looking good, temps are under control and so far everything is going great. heres some bat guano and worm castings on ebay, seems like a good deal, thinking about getting this, should be good for the plants??? i planted the new bean last night and its just starting to pop out of the soil, might be by tonight.

1 pound of High Phosphorus Bat Guano (NPK 0-7-0) and 1 pound of Worm Castings (NPK 1-0-0) $10.15 Shipped.

Worm Castings are an excellent seed starting amendment, soil amendment and are great as a maintenance tea. It can also be top dressed, mixed in with soil or made into a tea and watered in.

High P Bat Guano is an excellent flowering / fruiting phase fertilizer / soil amendment. It can be top dressed, mixed in with soil or made into a tea and watered in.
