ive got 2 meters (1)Precise instruments-Tri meter(2)handheld Eco Ph tester. i put both in the same pail with water and they are reading off. the tri meter gave a higher reading during my tests of by .4 both are calibrated. now i noticed when reading the tri meter manual , its says "immerse electrode in Ph solution 6.86, let stabilize and turn Ph7 screw till it reaches 6.86. ect ect im confused . why is there a Ph7 screw when im suppose to use Ph 6.86 ? i only own Ph buffer 7 havent herd of the 686 stuff . does that mean that when i calibrate the tri meter with Ph7 i will be calibrating wrong ? or does it mean the eco tester is fried (almost 2yrs old) i just dont know what meter to stick. thanks if you can help

Hey i think it is suppose to be the other way around. Use the ph 7 but adjust to 6.86. with ph the temp of the testing soulution shoould be 25 degrees celsius. Sorry dont know Fer. If you go to www.extremegrowing.com there is a utube conection there that walks you through calibrating your Trimeter. Works great.

for starters u need ph 7 and ph 4 solutions to calibrate your pen , if u just have ph 7 your lower end could be outa whack.also if your ph pen is 2 years old i hope u have some electrode cleaner yeah? otherwise thats going to be another problem.i couldnt understand what u wrote about the whole 686 sorry but its quite simple.. once u know your ph buffer is exactly at 7 put your pen in and then calibrate your pen , if your pen is at 6.86 when its in the buffer then your ph is outa whack and by calibrating it well yeah u get the idea.

This is why I went with good paper strips, always accurate. I got really sick of buying check fluid and wondering how well it stayed accurate.

Hanna sells the 6.86 test buffer solution. "http://www.hannainst.com/usa/subcat.cfm?id=002010005"

Different manufactures use different PH solutions to calibrate. If you calibrate using 7.0 solution to 7.0 reading for the one that calls for 6.86, it will likely be accurate enough not to cause problems for your plants, but it will not be precisely accurate. I would follow the manufacturer procedure. It was written by the engineers who designed your meter.
