Making small batch of oil

I only filter once, but use a multi layer filter. I also use the same filters for a whole batch. I filter the A-grade first on a clean filter and then the B and C grades after.

Looks like you are making progress. How long did you wash the material for this time? Did you use ISO this time, is so what strength?

You might consider doing a run with actual nice quality buds once you dial in the process a little more to determine how much of the green is from the type of material you are using. Doing a bud run will help you really see what kind of quality potential your process is capable of.

Nice job, keep going with the refinment and you will have some golden concentrates in no time!
This is my last run with the Methyl Hydrate, I am planning to switch to ISO, just have to find a COSTCO member to grab me some...

This was in one jar for 30 seconds, then dumped into the second jar of shake for 30 seconds, then poured into another jar, so total time on each batch of shake was only 30 seconds.

Already I'm light years ahead in quality, I can tell just from the color...

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions...

Do you guys have Walgreens or CVS in Canada? That's where I get my ISO. You want at least 90%.

Personally I would take all the lower quality trim out of the mix, and just wash one jar of really nice trim instead of washing 3 jars of lower quality trim. The leaves without much on them aren't helping your yield in any significant manner. Just doing that will ramp up the quality of the next batch even more!

I've got it evaporating now, with a fan blowing on it lightly, no heat...

It looks like apple juice, or piss, so a lot of the green came out, I'm really looking forward to smoking some. I expect the yield will be quite low, but of excellent quality (for me, anyhow)

I agree, I'll do a batch (with ISO) and use sugary trim and small buds.... so wet or dry isn't really an issue? Wet will allow the fresh turpines to be captured?

I only use Fresh frozen wet for meds..Not smoking.(:(washing by the pound and with buds, no shake or very little)
The water in the plant will bring out water soluble crap you dont want to smoke.... ...................over time..

even the quick 3 min wash you do will have fats and lipids in it...It brings out/takes off ALL the goodness.. or 80% of it comes off the plant anyway in that time...

Does killing the chlorophyll leave little dead bodies lying around?

Should this process be done before filtering, or after?

Fresh frozen material is great to work with, and yes it keeps many of the fresh terpenes. Fresh material will seem like a lower yield, but its only because it still has water weight. If you wash it fast and cold you will get super golden delicious smokable oil! I wouldn't chop any thing or even break it up. When you do the first wash it will pull the absolute best quality, and it will break up the material so that the second wash pulls all the rest of the good yield. If you do both washes fast and carefully the B grade is usually ALMOST as good as the A grade. I don't usually see a significant decrease in yield until the C grade. I smoke both A and B grade Happily.

3 Minute washes are WAY to long to get the quality you are seeking. You should try multiple short washes next batch.

I don't think it leaves anything around that can easily be filtered out. As far as I know it just changes the color of the chlorophyl and might make it a bit less harsh, but doesn't specifically remove it from the oil. Basically, I believe the impurities are still there, they just look different, if that makes sense.

I have done a few batches of green stuff in the sun, and it turned bright red. It looked cool, but it was still harsh :(. Now I smoke the amber or golden oils, and use the green C grade oil for edibles.

Another question, hopefully these will help somebody else too...

While evaporating, do you cover it with something to keep dust and bugs out? Cheesecloth or something? Seems after being so meticulous about getting to this stage with the cleanest wash, that the possibility of contamination now exists?

I used to be able to make 94% moonshine with my old pot still... wish I still had it, that would probably work great...

Looks like it's down to just water in the dish.... this is water that the alcohol has pulled out of the air.

Normally, this is where I would break out the heat gun to help evap the water, and I almost did.... BUT, I remembered, NO HEAT, so back in front of the fan...

patience grasshopper...

BTW, it smell frigging awesome!

Ok, I'm not only very pleased, but now I'm very stoned as well... LOL.

The results are in, and while this is at best, B grade stuff, if not C grade for some of you, for me, it is Grade A oil....

I'm really looking forward to washing some buds in ISO :) I just have to grow enough....

Absolutely no residue left in the bong from the oil. It has an amazing taste, I can't describe it, it's not like the buds...
Extremely easy going down, and it doesn't explode in your lungs making you cough...
I've only had two big rips, and I think that's enough for now. :)

Y'all have convinced me to change my ways.... Given a choice, I wouldn't smoke that green stuff any more either :)

Thank you all....

13446312_master.jpg If ya think we just knew or were told how to make it... youd be very wrong lol
We smoked the best green shit there be  (::spew::lol::wall:(:
We used to think it took DAYS to wash the shit off the plant
at HOT TEMPS.
....well the isomerizer used a light bulb with rheostat. There was more to the process but lol ya we didnt know anything about polar and non polar back then either.
After this it was washed with water..then toluene used to extract that...added hydrochloric? acid...etc
NO FRiGIIN WAY IM TRYIN IT lol

thinking about it now..we could have washed so many friggin pounds using hot IPA when we used the machine at first. lol..:wall::!::o:wall:
we quickly learned the machine was slow and small :) lol and started refining things

woohoo congrats dude! I knew you would be happier with the results already!

I do cover the dish with a simple filter that allows plenty of air flow. When I first started doing this i used a plastic window air conditioner filter, now I use a cheap loose furnace filter I bought at the hardware store. It provides enough filtration to keep any major dust or particles off, but doesn't restrict the air flow form the fan.

It even poses for pictures... and I didn't have to hurry to get the picture :)

So cool, it's like taffy, and a tiny bit opaque, almost looks red... almost...

Edit: By the way, I weighed it, I got half a gram...
