I believe you get mesothelioma from asbestos...not asbestosis, which I don't know what that is.

yes mesothelioma is from asbestos exposure. There's a ton of it still around too, I had an apartment whose outside tiles were made from it. Old firestop bags in cable holes have it as well. The key is not to disturb it and create dust, you will find hazmat setups regularly when a university or school is being remodeled.

Asbestosis is a chronic disease caused by asbestos fibers penetrating the lung walls which triggers your body's auto-immune reaction and creates inflammation and dyspnea. It isn't curable. You can treat the symptoms but there is no way to reverse the progress or damage. As you body continues to fight the asbestos fibers it begins to build up fibrous tissues that block your body's ability to process gases. Asbestosis greatly increases the risk of lung cancer and mesothelioma. They reason it's called asbestosis is because of high intensity or long term exposure to asbestos. You can only get it from exposure to asbestos.
