Lowryder 2 - Things You Might Not Know

So i recently completed my LowRyder 2 seed run in preperation for many many LR2 grows to come in the furure. In my mind a seed run is a necessity for anyone planning to grow any auto strain as not doing so will lead to purchasing seeds for every crop you plant and that could get expensive quick. I realize there is a wealth of info when it comes to growing autos but I thought i would share some info that i haven't heard mentioned alot, particularly info on breeding.

1. Lowryder 2 may claim to be seed to harvest in 8 weeks and i'm sure that it can be done, producing good seeds however will take 10-11 weeks from the appearance of the first "true" leaves.

2. Seeds will harden and turn dark brown and striped when they are ready and mature, harvesting them at any time before this and you will have worthless immature green and cream colored seeds.

3. Due to the nature of the budding process not all seeds started forming at the same time and therefore all seeds will not be mature at the same time, And a fully mature seed is very capable of bursting through its seed pod and falling to the ground. This leaves you a few options, you can make a collar of plastic around the base of the plant to catch fallen seeds, or you can harvest individual seeds when mature but before they drop until the bulk of the remaining seeds, then just harvest and dry as usuall. Once its dry just pick the seeds out and your good, but your not done yet.

4. Seeds take up to a month to fully dry before they can be germinated successfully. A reputable source has told me that 2 weeks can give about 50% germination but 4 weeks gives nearly 100%

5. Pollination is not a complicated process. There are many great guides to polination to be found here on RIU, most of them instruct you on how to do a partial pollination like a single branch. But if your new at this and anything other then a super micro uber small speaker box / pc case grower you can save yourself the trouble and just let your male live right alongside your ladies and not do anything special. Believe me nature will find a way, if you have enough air moving around to keep the plants healthy then you have enough to blow the pollen all over the place and pollinate every single possible flower, no q-tips or paint brushes are required just a single living flowering male.

5. Remember that really seedy mexican brick weed you used to buy? You have no idea just how seedy weed can be till you have done a seed run. It really is crazy to see it, a single plant can throw off 100's of seeds.

6. Nearly any grower can benifit from having an auto strain around. I have a friend that grows Big tall plants under 1k bulbs. So his veg period is around 2 months and then he flowers for 10 weeks giving him nearly 5 months between harvests. After seeing My Lr2 and laughing at the little things (he is an older guy and had never heard of an autoflowering plant before) I explained them to him and he left with seeds and a smile. His plan is to start the Lr seeds when he starts a batch of clones, that way he can harvest the LR2 when the clones move over to 12/12, essentially doubling his totl harvests per year without taking up any room in the bud room. Tell me we all couldn't benifit from that

7. I heard so many people knocking the auto strains that i really wasn't sure what to think. I took the chance and ordered some seeds to see for myself. This stuff is dank, it really is great smoke . The next time you hear sombody bashing autos ask them if they have ever tried growing or smking it themselves, Bet they haven't and if they have.....you just found a really bad grower, take no advice from them on anything!

8. It seems from the pics i see here on RIU that alot of people are finding themselve the proud parent of a he/she hermie. From my experience and reading i understand that that it does on occasion just happen. But it seems to me that a great deal of them happen in response to light leaks in the dark period. Not a problem with autos you can leave em under light 24/7 and they will continue to bud as normal, so light leaks are no problem.
Don't jump on me for this it really is just a question but, Has anyone ever even seen a hermie Lowryder ?

9. Easy on the nutes, Lr needs alot less nutes then other strains. I never used over 1/2 the reccomended dose on my bloom nutes and if you use a really good soil like fox farm ocean forest you can skip the grow nutes all together. Hydro growers will still need grow nutes but not at full strength.

Hope this helps anyone who is considering growing LR2 or any auto strain. If nothing else it will at least help cut down on the number of times the gurus will have to answer the same questions.

Good Luck Everyone:joint:

Food for thought. Thanks!

I guess I was wary about lowrider / auto-flowering strains. Aren't they created by crossing Ruderalis with other more potent varieties?

I don't know much about Ruderalis other than the brief mention in Cervantes' Bible. I assumed that these hybrids would be exchanging a certain amount of potency for the convenience of a low, auto-flowering plant.

sure you can but a standard strain 12/12 from seed will not be as potent as it would be if it was fully mature. LR2 however is mature and ready to harvest 8-9 weeks from seed. That is impossible to do with a standard strain unless your working from clone. Besides people don't run them in 18/6 for no reason, It gives the plant 50% more light to use for growth then 12/12. Trust me it makes a difference.

Also most new growers are working with smaller lights like 400-600 watts or less, given the light penetration one of these lights provides it is best to grow shorter plants. New growers also can be quite intimidated by cloning, growing autos eliminates the worry entirely.

I'm sure that there are strains that have a higher potency, but this stuff is still some fire bud. It would easily sell as "chronic" anywhere.

Potency is still pretty good with Lowryder. It is awesome for cabinet growers with limited space.

well in my experience you can skip the grow nutes but you will still want to use bloom nute, just go easy on them. But at the same time if my stuff ever looked like it needed it i would use grow nutes, but with good soil i have yet to see the need.

for real? because i my friend had a lowrider and it was a alright smoke but nothing like a good sativa.... maybe it all depends on how u grow it and lighting etc.....

Great summation of the LR2!

After this and an other thread, I'm thinking of trying it.

I'm put off a bit with the no clone aspect. I like the idea of a genetic base.
But low, automatic flowering seems appealing. First round would be a seed round. (seeds ain't cheap)

But looks like the perfect summer plant. indoor outdoor it should all work.

So its a good smoke? Yields good (for size and all)?
You'd do it again? (biggest value)

Seed grow all the way. It's easy and you can get over 300 seeds from one plant if you pollinate at 4weeks. The smoke is still very good from the seeded buds. I would not say that it "knocks me on my ass", but I have not yet had the pleasure of Lowryder Sensimilia. What I have smoked was pretty damn potent. I got some sensimilia brewing now and it is looking good. Can't wait.

Awesome man, just awesome. Thank you so much for that, +rep to you, sir!

I plan on doing my seed run with LR2 and/or some lowlife genetics asap next season, like starting late march. During and after I plan on planting like 5 a week for a perpetual outdoor harvest all year long while my 'traditional' plants mature. I'd like to start as early as possible so I don't risk pollinating any of my other plants. This thread is going in bookmarks and I hope you don't mind if I direct a few ?s towards you in the upcoming season.

Thanks again brother.

I wouldn't recommend the 2-liter bottles, i don't think it allows a large enough root mass, I am currently using 1 gallon grow bags with great results, 2 gallon seemed marginally better but for the price of soil i'll be using the 1 gallons as i saw little difference in yield. Also it seems to me that they do not like being in small starter containers, I had originally been starting them in 16oz cups till they showed sex but i think they are somewhat stunted by doing things this way, I now plant the pre germed seed straight into the 1 gallon bag, it sucks losing al that soil to the males but i still think it's for the best.

All Fox Farm products are easily located, [although not always closely] by going to FF's web site and using the retail locator.
FoxFarm Soil & Fertilizer Company

Good Luck
