Heckler, the led tent is ~ 10ft from where I site most of the day + I stick my nose in there many times, so it's getting ample CO2

Doc, first a question - male or female? If female, since you hide your face in all your photos, should we call you Butterface? Come on, that's funny. OF course you wouldn't show your face, especially to this horny crowd:fire:

Since LED is a fast moving target, not sure that I would spend $800 right now (not a believer in B/R tubes, but Argo makes them @ $72!), BUT, you could use 2ft tubes, or 3 row snaps from OptiFusion (being directional), you don't need a reflector, but you would need a large frame inside your tent to attach them all.

I actually started a thread on IC about a 6 pointed frame for 4ft tubes, so google me, or sign up over there to check the out the details.

What I don't like about the 2-3 row snap OFs is that they arranged the rows of diodes the same, whereas rows should be staggered to best balance the light; though this may not be a big deal in the long run, it should have been accounted for during design. COBs make staggering is a moot point

I'm going to add 2 COBs next grow.

Although I am seeing awesome results with the 18w tubes, I hope/expect ~ 40w are right around the corner. That's when it will be worth spending $800

Here's a mind blower.

This is 1/2 plants I harvested yesterday from my HOT5 tent using my version of the Hydro Halo Drip Ring system. I plan to use it in my LED tent next grow

I separated the net pot lid from the Air Pot, and noticed that ZERO roots had grown down into the lava rock in the Air Pot!

Imagine my surprise to see that this soft ball size mass of totally fluffy root hairs grew a ~ 125 gm wet (not counting roots) plant

Now there was a 4" air-gap between the Lava Rock inside the AP and the bottom of the net pot. We all know roots will grow toward water. The thing is, the water/nutes that cascaded down into the lava rock quickly drained back to the rez, and apparently, the roots had sufficient moisture on the few lava rocks that I put inside the net pot, and simply did not grow any bigger.

Next grow I will fill the APs with lava rock, or I may try a new puffed clay type medium

Easy for you to say.

Could you actually write one of my sigs, but in a way that does not create the actual link, but shows me how?

Hey pF! ready for a chllaxin weeked? Your outdoor led grow sounds really fun. I wish I could participate but I don't have the property at this point.I hope you find someone to do it with. Yeah I see your point about LEDs right now..still in its infancy I guess. I am temtpted to toss in a few 2 ft ones in with my grow this round. I could hang them from my other scrog screen with my 600 hps. or I could just do 2 600 hps like I did before but shit dude.. the electic bill would be INSANE! I would have to run my portable Solair 14000 btu a/c conditioner along with all the fans .. I know I could pull a huge yield but don't know right now what im going to do. What are those lava rocks for and what is the puff clay like material you talkin about... hydroton pebbles like I use? id steer away from them. They are ph problematic, very very dirty. This is the last grow for me with them.Im thinkin hempy style like flowamaster . I also heard of another type of white pebble but cant remember the name. Looks just like my clay pebbles but white in colour and ph neutral. im female heres a picture of me you butthead! lol

Outdoors? Not here.

I switched from hydroton to lava rock. It's jagged and traps some nutes & stays moist between feedings: roots love it!

There is a newish media looks gray, more like chunks that MIGHT be good. http://www.epicgardening.com/hydroponic-growing-media/#growstone

I hear you about AC costs. I was experiencing 91-95* temps in my HOT5 room. I have split zone central aac. The main unit went down and while the repair man was here I had him check the unit on the HOT5 side of the house. Turned out i just needed refrigerant. I had previously purchased a product called Power Curve XP-AC which he added to both units. AWESOME! House stays much cooler at same thermostat setting, AND, compressor is now silent, when it used to sound like a bucket of rocks whenever it was cycling

Bestbuy 13 watts 800 lumens 3000k,Home depot 9.5 watts 800 lumens 2700k and the Bestbuy is normally $5 more than the HD one.At $10 by their numbers at 12 hours a day it would take 2 years for the homedepot cree to make up the difference in power savings. At the normal prices the HD bulb is a better buy,so get them while their on sale.

Also with the cooling design there are 3 dead spots in the sides so you would be better with a clamp light like reflector for these.

Great news about the A/C pF! Glad it was an easy fix!!
I guess I thought outdoors when you mentioned Yurt. I wish I had time to do the project with you but I work a ft 50 hours a week very stressful job and just don't have the time to do it, really bummed.... It sounds really fun and I look forward to following along!
Those lava rocks sound the bomb! it was really strange to see you put them big rocks in your rez.lol.. I admire your creative innotative to experiment. and dude... Your roots look really really awesome ! nice work!
That's a cool link to the medium.. but the ones I once saw aren't on there. Oh well, the lava rocks sound better anyway.. Are they pH neutral?

Nope they're both WW red shifted for flower,2700k having more red.Veg would be blue like CW 6500k and NW in the 5000k range. I think the HD Cree's would have much better side light dispersion but if you already have some cone shaped reflectors the BB ones should be fine to use that way.

The Yurt idea was only because Beefbisquit said you can't grow trees with leds and I wanted to point out that you actually can, though it would be $$$$$

I grow in 2 different areas, the led tent which is only 5ft tall, which severely limits size of plant. I am keen to run the Hydro Halo spray system + led tubes, but ill take a month break before cracking the BrandX G13. As I recall, it's X WW, pollinated with Bubblegum.

I also want to add 2 more led tubes (COB) to the LED tent. Have an idea for a DIY kit style LED tube frame, but do not have the necessary shop tools. Got a buddy in Calif who does, but he's very busy

No rocks in the rez, just crystals and orgone. The pics show a layer of lava-rock from the bottom of the netpot lid that attached themselves to the lava-rocks, like sticky cob webs.

The lava rock seems pH neutral, but when using ~ 6-10g rez of balanced nutes, it takes lot to unbalance it, plus, the nutes quickly cascade over the rock and back to the rez, so not much contact
