Led Growing Is The Way Of The Future My Friends

A few years yet befor LED has breakthrough to acutually compare with results of MH or HPS. Just not there, despite claims.
On the other hand, its the lighting of choice when your grow area is limited, such as small apartment or closest.

Actually someone did a comparison between led's and mh & hps...identical grow rooms...identical plants...same light schedule...same nutes...EVERYTHING totally identical...there was no appreciable difference in plant size...quality or yeild...the big difference was cost of electricity for the mh and the hps versus the led's, and of course the price of the led grow lights

dude i have a friend that runs a blackstar 600 and my 600hps kicks its ass. hands down i get atleast a oz more than he does and my buds are tighter and larger! we both ran a power kush run to compare, but his power bill is about half of mine.

so I guess the question is whats better a proven product or one with a higher upfront cost yet lower monthly cost and a challenge to yield up to H.I.D

*any links/sites to this comparison grow? LED does look like the future of indoor setups (but at the moment its still under par compared to HIDs, imho)

Blackstar units tend to run on only 55% the wattage their namesake would imply, so your friends blackstar is about 330w of LED compared to your 600w HPS (and in my opinion not the best 330w of LED there is). You can bet though he would whoop you good if he had 600w of actual 3w LED blackstar light. I feel my own :LED which actually uses 395w into 252 3w diodes and 6 fans to be at least as good as a 600w HPS

Does anyone hear know or can anyone explain in a sense what L.E.D.'s need to do to get better and to be sufficient enough to replace or surpass the production of a 1000w hps light? And also explain what the L.E.D.'s are now compared to where they need to be with some general info, enough so that we can understand the difference between now and Future LEDs?

Or maybe is therea thread like this already?/

LEDs used to have the problems that they lack in light penetration, but with the new 3w leds that seems to be solve

I have a friend that is replacing his HID with high quality led and his actually getting better results than using 1000w hids

the only problem is that you need to spend around $1500/2000 per 3'x3' area if you really want to get awesome results, or you can go cheap with some blackstars and still get a decent quality (if you already got everything else right)

besides the overprice initial cost if you get really good leds they will pay for them selves, it's amazing how much electricity they can save.. also the heat is incredibly reduced (compared to hids)

Has anyone noticed that the people who always crack out that old chestnut "LED is just not there yet" are usually noobs or old f**ckers who remember growing hemp alongside Abe Lincoln??

LED is just not there yet. I've done lots of research and followed dozens of grow journals. LEDS are decent for vegging but do not have proper penetration for flowering. Most of the LED growers will admit this themselves. I am yet to see any evidence that suggests otherwise. I'm an open minded kind of guy and would love to see evidence if you could provide it.

PS. I am neither old guy or noob. Just because I only have a few posts here does not mean I am a noob. I have been growing for years and have been a member of many forums, just not this one.

i would like to have a kickass LED but the cost is a bitch till they get popular.

I suggest you look up Irishboy's grows then here and on 420, he won bud of the month under a LED, the thing was the size of a soda bottle...a large one!!

You can also follow mine if you like and see how it does...https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/434813-550w-led-vs-20x-green.html

PS. Unless you have a guilty conscience what makes you think I was directing it at you, like I said, i've heard that old chestnut too many times to take it seriously and dare I say that you need to keep researching because you have only scratched the surface..

Why should I have a guilty conscience, I've done nothing wrong

In response to your post I was only clarifying I was not a member of either group you referred to .. ie noob or old timer, so as my opinion would not be ridiculed, as it seems you take neither group seriously

PS ... I've looked at both journals and lets just say I'm not convinced. Googled Irishboy too and see same stuff on lots of forums, all starting off with link to where he got the lights. Why is it neccessary to post same thing on so many forums ? Sounds suspiciously like sales pitch to me.

it seems to look that way doesn't it LOL ...... it seems like ya spend about a buck a watt for HID and 2 to 3 bucks a watt for LED and i still haven't seen any LED grows that really rock unless they where grown by a pro.

You should be able to find a grow journal or two on here regarding Irishboy, I'll let you do the leg work yourself but it is well worth it, once you see his results you will look at LED very differently, but either way unless you have tried them you don't really have an informed opinion about them.

For the record I have 2 flower rooms with 600HPS in them as well as the LED grow going now so I am have plenty experience of HID and now I am physically gaining valuable experience with one of the better models of LED panel available on the market.

Having seen so much being said about LED I always get irritated by people saying this and that yet they have no experience regarding it, especially when you do a youtube search and all you see is some silly little ufo doing very little over a single plant etc...

Time will tell and do yourself a favour, find Irishboys journals/threads...you will be surprised my friend.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a LED hater or anything and I wish you the best of luck in your pursuits. You're dead right when you say I have no experience of LEDS, no practical experience that is, however it's not really fair to say I don't have an informed opininion. As I said earlier I've done a lot of research on LEDS and followed dozens of grow journals. Been watching them for years as a matter of fact. As soon as any new product or technology comes on the market which claims to increase yield or make things cheaper for us growers I will research it to the best of my ability. At the moment I'm not seeing enough evidence to justify going out spending a whole load of money on LEDS.

I checked Irishboy's threads here, and no disrespect to you but I just don't believe what I'm seeing. All a sales pitch IMHO. If it looks and smells like a sales pitch it most likely is. Wasn't he the guy whose threads were pulled on ICGMAG, because nobody else could achieve similar results with the same lights, or maybe its someone else I'm thinking of.

Anyways as I said earlier, good luck to you, I really want LEDS to work, I'll be the first one to go out and buy them.

What I heard about that was he and others would talk of their bad experiences with certain LED companies that started becoming Sponsors and so someone got banned and then a bunch of people left. I don't think Irish is on anyone's pay roll, I've been following him and his buddies and talking with GLH since september and from what Irish would tell me and Mike from GLH (I doubt they work together, one knows more about LED tech than the other), and I've definitely seen everyone with GLH lights do pretty well (at least 4 different people and 8-10 total grows). You're right, it isn't worth the expense for most people at this point, I've seen enough to convince me that the best LED > MH/HPS (don't know about plasma or other exotics) but that for people who are already established growers with lots of equipment, the only reason to make the move is for heat/electrical consumption issues. With how likely people are still to be raided, professionally on a large scale I wouldn't go LED either (even if its better which some don't think it is, it might not pay for itself in savings before you get busted by the DEA). I imagine people will be more willing to fork over lots of $$$ for LED when there is less fear of getting raided or caught and that expense going down the drain before it paid for itself (although if you grow right you should always be able to grow enough with an LED to generate enough $$$ in sales to cover it)

The expensive LED grow lights from companys like glh are amazing, there 290w led outperforms a 400w hps easily, it produces more dense, potent buds.
