yeah this is the end of week 2 beginning of week 3. Should start vegging hard anytime now I hope!

Update: The rooting stage of these seedlings is most likely over and the vegging stage has begun to take place. It looks like multiple sets of leaves are coming in and that makes me happy.

I don't see any signs of stretching or malnutrition. Here are some recent pics. Let me know if you see anything wrong with these young ladies.

A question, why have you chosen to veg under fluro's? Not the HPS?

nice setup. where did u get the foam to line the walls? how to u apply it to the wall?

max- I chose to veg with cfls for a couple of reasons. I started the sprouts with the HPS and they began to stretch (Its only a 150 watt) and it got too hot in there with all the lights. I'll bring in the HPS for flower to really kick up the lumens.

barry- The walls are lined with styrofoam panels. These panels are at Home Depot in the insulation department and are super cheap (like 6 bucks). I then took styrofoam boards home and cut the them to the measurements of the cabinet. They fit pretty snuggly against the wall so you squeeze'em into place. After that you take a screw with a large heard and put it through a fender washer fender washer (donut looking metal piece). The washer keeps the stryofoam from ripping right off the screw. Drill a pre-hole through the stryofoam and wood simultaneously. After that you attached the screw/fender to secure the board, tape the cracks, and your done. Might not be that clear but w..e

I just notice that you only have an exhaust for air leaving the cabinet...if you have heat problems when you have both type of lights running you may have to open up an intake to bring in fresh air....I myself would cut a 3 inch hole in the back ( at the bottom opposite of the exhaust ) to bring in fresh air....just use a rigged pc fan over the hole to help draw in the air...that Styrofoam stops all leaks so I'm sure you don't have much fresh air coming in unless you open cabinet, so think about that ..plants need fresh air too.....JMHO

I do have an intake in my cab. Its in the pictures above (and below). Its connected to my a/c by ducting.

ahhhhh.....i see i see...just make sure that vent not blowing heat out ...lol

Week 3 Mid Week Update (Day17)



These bitches are blowing up right now. They are devoting alot of energy to vegging out and it looks sweet. More sets of leaves are on the way. Gave'em a good watering with some more distilled water and put them to bed for the night (they are up while I sleep). I plan to start LST in a couple of days. Here are some more pics.

ok two thoughts....nice sign but I would have something like "Snakes Breeding" Do Not Open..Most people don't mess around with snakes..lol...and that window next to your cabinet when you open your cabinet all that light shines out that window..keep that covered dude..you stealth for a reason...

Damn they growing by the minute...good job giving them ladies attention its really starting to show...

Week 3 Midweek Update (Day 19)


So I'm halfway through Week 3 with the girls and they are pretty sweet looking. The leaves are vegging pretty hard and I am happy. They are getting 18 hours of light and are being fed plain distilled water for now. Their next feeding is coming up either tomorrow or the day after that and I plan to start feeding them with 1/4th strength Fox Farm Big Bloom. This should be around the beginning of week 4 and should accelerate growth. In the weeks to come I plan to get grow Big and Tiger Bloom.

p.s. I am considering taking out the single 42watt cfl and turning on the 150w HPS. I plan to use the single 42 watt cfl in the bottom compartment for my clone chamber. I also feel like my plants aren't growing to their full potential and I feel like the 150 watt would really unleash them. If I do decide to crank the big boy on, it'll be next week and then it will only be on(18/6) for a week after that until it is time to start flower.

Main Issues- Power is a very big issues. I am in college and my rents pay my power bill so it is a priority to minimize power usage. In order to combat escalating power cost I have 1) Changed all of the bulbs in my apartment from 40 watt incandescents to 9 watt cfls 2) Cut down my A/C usage from around 18 hours a day to close to 5 3) I unplug my microwave and other appliances that use power

- Heat is also a problem I'd like to avoid. In later months I don't see a problem because it'll be damn cold here but right now it could get really hot.

Still pondering...

with all the changes you have made in your apartment with electricity your bill should be pretty low even when you bring in that HPS.....I say bring on the hps w/ the two cfl.. just watch the heat...when that hps starts making them stretch start that LSD.... looking good bro!!!!!!!!

I am thinking I am going to go that route. One more week of 3 cfls then I'll bring in the HPS with 2 cfls

How much water are u giving them each day

if im not mistaken shouldnt you be giving them cool white cfl light for veg? or MH light? i heard the daylight and HPS are better for flower.

maybe that might help veg growth
