One thing to consider is how long the company has been in business.

There are so many flash in the pans and pop ups trying to sell lights it's very easy to get lost in the mix.

Do they have a FULL Warranty? In business more than 5 years? Are they using current tech? Results?

Yeah a ton of questions to think about....This is the reason I said fuck it and built my own DIY COB.

Yeah it took a lot of researching and finding deals for the pieces I wanted for the light.

I have $370 into a 4x3590CXB light custom built to my area the light puts out over 75k lux at 24"

Now that might not mean much, but move it down to 18" and your at sun levels over 100k lux.

That's with 3 3500K and one 2700K and 250w MW driver that I cannot turn up all the way in the small space lol. I can run it maybe 150w on the plants......prices have fallen some since then with more new tech coming out monthly it seems.
I'm running four CXB3590 chips at 54W each , which means that with the driver is pulling 225W from the wall. My modules feature two pairs of chips and lenses, centered about 15" apart. This allows the unit to do a great job lighting a 2x3' space or a decent job of a 3x3. I paid about $380 per module about a year ago.

I'm very happy with how they work and judging from this thread I think I did better than anything Amare has on the market.

Yeah, but whatever. I won't mention it again. Just feel like you've been acting up on me since I shared the documentation on the Efficiency thread. Making challenges n such. That was annoying when I was only sharing data.
Niether of us ever had anything negative to say before that from & we both appreciated each other's posts when useful.
I'll stay clear though n I'd appreciate the same courtesy.
You're deffinetly allot better to deal w/ then some poeple & are trying to improve your lights. So, props there.

Did a search for Amare led. The fifth link in the search was to a grow journal of an Amare SE450. You can see it HERE.


The guy started off thinking he had an amazing light, especially considering how expensive it was and the expectations he had for all that money spent.

By the end of his journal he compared it directly with a Mars 1200 he also had. The yields were very similar but he was very unimpressed with the quality of the the Amare grown buds. They were larfy and not very big. His Amare cost $700 more than the Mars and he got almost identical yields. His results are on page 11, post #152.

Here are a few quotes from his journal.
"Appearance and smoke wise, I think I enjoyed my Mars grown buds better."

"I think to flower a 4x4 denser I would need to hang my Amare as close as the Mars was; at 18-20 inches, and accept a smaller footprint."
"So I feel a little misled, like Amare has focused too much on the center umol number to say it's intense enough to cover a 4x4."
"To summarize, the Amare SE450 pros are more efficient power use, fuller spectrum, I believe slightly faster growth and slightly more frosting. Cons are that it's hella expensive and over-rated for a 4x4 so I still need to spend more $$ on more lighting. I'm having a hard time re-justifying the expense when I could buy two Mars 1200's for less and yield twice as much for just $25 extra on the electric bill per month."

I'm not saying the Amare is no better than a Mars. I'm just saying, don't listen to all the bullshit about how supplemental reds and blues and IR/UV turn a light into some kind of superlight. 95% of your yield and quality will come from your growing skills. As long as you're getting the recommended amount of PPFD on your canopy you will be golden. This is why I would recommend a cheaper light than the Amare. Any of the Johnson, NGL, Timber etc are great lights and if you contact the owners of those light systems they will advise you what light they make will suit your space the best. Good luck with whichever you choose.
Well, that's the first person I've ever seen that wasn't 100% satisfied.
- He did get .94 GPW
- Yes, 450w is underpowered in a 4'x4' but can still do the job. It takes 650w to properly flower a 4'x4'.
- He ran at 25w a sq' & got .94 GPW. I'd say that's pretty good.
- He also said he was running over 86•. Which is a sure way to get fluffier buds along w/ being only 450w in a 16sq'area.
- He did not do a side by side, wasn't the same strains nor temp.
- Was the guys third grow ever

Anyways, that's one out of a hundred reviews that wasn't 100% satisfied.

My first experience using the SE-450 in a 4'x4' alone was much different.
-18oz of good fairly dense bud from edge to edge + a few oz from not Loki-popping. Had the mites & other issues too & was still very satisfied w/ how it performed & the results.
I didn't expect 2#'s like I normally would get on a 4'x4' using 1200w of HPS. Something a new grower might not fully understand in the beginning.
My first led grow was using the SE-450 against the Hydroponics Hut X5-500 & it killed it by 11oz.
BigSmo gets 1.5#'s off each SE-450 in a 4'x4' running autos for gods sake.

It's like this, all the lights you guys listed i'm sure are great. Thing is, for all practical reasoning, he wants a light that will work in conjunction w/ his existing SE-350 that he is happy w/. So, wouldn't the wisest choice be to use another one?
Guess it depends on whether he runs w/ lenses. If not then he could go w/ almost any cob light.
Just won't have the spectrum. Maybe he could look at a new generation 90CRI cob light.
Thing is, why switch & not have a 5 yr. warranty unless higher yields are a sure thing?

Really? So you need more watts of LEDs to cover the same area as a HPS?

Pretty sure most would agree, 400w in a 4'x4' isn't gonna get you max yields.
That guys light was only 400 w for some reason. Not 450.
Something is weird.

40W/sf is on point with hps

i have 675W in half a 5x9 (22.5 SF - 30W/SF) and its on the edge of too much light

You said 650W for a 4x4 , a 600w HPS will light a 4x4 up from wall to wall with a reflector....

Not meant to be a stupid comment. It's the same idea. I used 1200w in each 4.5'x4.5' span of area in the HPS room. If I want to match that performance I would need like 800w of my Amare. Which I'm doing w/ the Pro-4's.
Certain amounts of light will yield you certain averages.
For intense, 600w HPS gets me 14oz on average.
My 450 got me 18+. See what I mean?
In my HPS room I didn't work by footprints. The whole ceiling was HPS. I used the 600w a plant arrangement.
If I want the same Kindve results, I'd probably wanna be at around 350-400 led watts a plant.
This next run I'll be @ 259 w a plant. A lil short, I'll have to reduce the # of plants or grow smaller ones next time.

You can light up a 5x5 with a 1000w hps, sounds like you don't know how to use your lights well. 14 oz for a 600w hps is a poor run. I commonly get 18oz+ per 600w hps running lower yielding strains and definitely have room for improvement and i run no till organics which is not known for its yield. I know several people getting 14-20oz per run using a single 315 CMH as well.
