Is Facebook Dangerous?

yea honestly i do not and you should not trust facebook. its basically the biggest database for people and ALL OF THEIR INFORMATION....i dont have and WOULD NEVER have a facebook, you dont need to know when im going to take a piss or go for a walk. if you dont have my cellphone # then theres a reason i dont talk to you.

This is my fear on any website, especially as software improves, databases (metadata) contain more info and computational power increases. Your picture on FB along with your hometown information linked to your RIU photo(s) and activities especially if the website is specifically targeted for any reason?

I'm becoming more and more leery about FB and the fact that it puts you out in the cyber world so easily. Some breeders have FB pages that I selected "Like" to be subscribed to their updates. I've been seriously contemplating deleting FB entirely because it's too revealing. It's comical that some post their entire lives on FB. People on Shroomery.org said to ditch it entirely because of the drama and gossip associated with FB. I just want a second opinion.

What is everyone's thought of FB?

We have cell phones which we can communicate via texts, so why is FB so essential to most people? Gossip?
Let's just say I have NEVER had a FB account. I have zero interest in packaging myself up for the govt. If they want me let them unleash the real detectives. I also don't use store rewards crap. The more data points in the system the more they 'know' you.

I didn't realize pot heads were so paranoid. Jesus.

If you are all legally growing then why is this a big issue? You choose what you put on it or don't.

Either use it or don't. Not sure why you need other people to tell you what to do.
So could you give me the list of acceptable questions that are not considered paranoic? Frankly I think most legitimate questions should be entertained. This seemed fairly genuine.

But because you asked I am completely legal and I fear rippers more than I ever feared the cops. But frankly I fear the DEA most of all. You really haven't plumbed the depths of hell until you are entangled in a Federal Bureaucracy. Isn't the DEA one of Dante's 9th level acts?

It's been a looooooooooooong time but something along the lines of, "Treason, liars and the unfaithful lament their sins in this frigid pit of despair."

Not compared to RIU. At least you can delete your fb account!! Lol

(Fb can be very dangerous. Apply privacy settings at all times. ;))

They are similar.

On FB you don't actually delete your account. You deactivate it.
Your data is stored neatly and indefinitely just in case you want to return.

If your privacy settings are set to the most strict settings on FB, search engines
"should" only be able to index your name.
So why save your data after deactivation? It's not saved because they want you to think
they are doing you a favor in case you may want to return. Data storage costs money, they are a mega
corp who wants to make as much as they can.
They save your data for whatever other reasons that may be, but they don't do it for you.
They could care less if it takes you time to rebuild your FB profile.

Here on RIU, it is similar.
Much like FB you "could" be deleted from the DB if you choose to delete your account. The
difference is that sites like RIU are nowhere near as large as FB and rely on search engine links
(posts) and activity to get more search engine recognition.

The more SE recognition the higher in the ranks sites appear and normally there are more users joining.
The more users equates to higher conversion rates in dollars, may it be ads or premium accounts.

On grey area sites, such as RIU the owners/admins should take into account that people who
want to be removed from the system should be. The user base expects it to be that way because the
site is normally trusted to do the "right thing".

However, that is rarely the case, because volume turns into convertible numbers.

Years ago it was discovered that the CIA funded Facebook through a shill corporation. That has to be for a good reason. I would not trust them in the least.
sounds about as credible as the fluoride conspiracy or sky daddy magically inventing the earth.

Any question seems paranoid in the correct context. I never said anything in support of facebook or the government, I just don't care enough at all either way.

If they want me, they are going to get me. Regardless. It just might take em an extra day. The fact that I have a social security number alone sealed my fate sir.

Face What ?
I have never been on FB, [so no account] ...
I don't really want people whom I left behind to be able to track, and or find me...
Hiding in plain sight, but never on Face Book....
And, my cell phone is from Wal-Mart a go phone, I can't even sell on Craigslist, for phone is unverifiable...
I am not paranoid, I just don't like my life being an open book...
