Is cloning gel or power absolutely needed?

I'm at day 21 after flip and I want to take some cuttings to monstercrop. I don't have any rooting gel or powder and can't get any till Saturday, so should I take the cuttings tonight without the gel or wait till day 23 with the gel?

You can do it without by cutting the clippings on the diag while under water
In a pinch I have used aloe lotion
You could clip em keep em in water till then too

just cut it trim leaves and set it in water under the mother

chance you get air embolism are small

hormones are not needed anything you put into the plants stays in the plant for its life cycle

they just speed up the process

proper temp and humidy is all you need

You can use honey, or even just water (replacing every day)

If you have perfect temp and humidity You might even beat the cloning agents depending on strain

I am one of those that only puts in what is needed

Just know it is gonna take a few days longer if you do not keep perfect temps

just setting under mother will be fine just take about 3-7 days longer

I never use any cloning solutions and have damn near 100% success as long as I don't screw something up like not add water to the res, I built a cloner out of a cooler, a pump some 1/2 pvc pipe, a 1 minute on 5 minute off timer and a few spray heads. Set it and forget it all except adding tap water occasionally.

So if I understand you guys correctly I should just keep them in water till they show roots and then put them into soil right???

you can do it without airstones and swapping water 1-2 times a day
but i like using a bubble cloner which is just an airstone in there
no hormones needed and near 100% success, 1-2 weeks full roots

Ok thanks for the tip I will definitely build a little cloner in the future. Yes I am swapping the water every day.

Honey works great too

Expect those to take longer since they are already in flower mode but yes that should work just make sure to change the water at least once a day and keep the stem wet.

Sometimes giving roots more than one place to start from helps.

I like to do the 45 degree cut at the bottom and also try to strip a few nodes running up the stalk. Those nodes can throw roots too. This can be observed when using an aerocloner or if the cutting is in a glass of water.

If you don't have an aerocloner, sometimes a cut plastic sandwich baggie over a beer cup is helpful, if you clone in soil.

Cut a slit in the upper corner of the bag and secure it with a rubber band or hair tie near the top lip of the beer cup. This creates an individual humidity dome for each clone. I spray water in thru the baggy slit to maintain humidity. Roots in 10 days or so.

I find rooting gel to definitely increase success rates and initiate a faster root onset, but you can clone without it. I wouldn’t clone a plant in flower though... will take a much longer time to revert back to vegetative growth.

This is the only way I was taught.. no matter what it was my mom would clip it at an angle and drop it in water. No ph maybe changed the water twice a week ... jus waited on roots... I have some plum and peach clipping I’m doing in water now... I have new shoots and small roots on a couple... I did find however the powder made some of the clipping stick better.. so it leads me to believe the process WAS faster...I placed the cuttings in a peat pellet and could feel the tension as I slightly pulled the cutting... jm2c also I started adding a low dosage of flowering nutes in the water.. to hopefully build roots...

I typically use rapid rooters, make sure they are saturated with water at all times, and use a dome over top to keep the humidity high. $10 worth of cloning gel lasts me forever. Once roots start to form, they go into 3” or 5” net pots depending on the system.

I just did Rhododendron and Impatient's both are rooted
Some Plants are easier to air root though

Curious how long Rhododendrons took?

I suspect maintaining proper water temp will be my biggest challenge.
