There is a problem that I have with some sativas, I can't give it to my loved friends, if I do, I need to be there and give them just for one little joint, one of them is a beast that every day when comes from work like to roll a double paper joint (and some more after shower), he can't do it with my Malawi or Golden Tiger, and he don't want to listen or understand that you need to mind the dose, another friend, wich I gifted him a nice bud because he don't like cannabis so much (just in special ocasions) and if he smoke, he does little joints, at the end, one day someone (the brother of his wife) did comes to his house and did take a huge joint from Malawi... there is a wife that dont want to see me around there nevermore... Pure sativas are something serious, you cant gift it without care, because there are gonna be "history of the super joint" for years to come because a hard and bad trip, somehow you want to share deep from your heart someting good and end up being a drug terrorist.

I honestly suspect that this is why most people think sativas are a racy high. Every time I've smoked a premature bud I get a headband-like buzz that quickly fades.
thats the difference though... properly mature sativas don't have the short effects duration that premature flower has. I don't smoke pure sativas much anymore, but I had a friend that grew some gorgeous landrace sativas back in the mid to late 90s and the high on those seemed endless. like still really fucking high 4 hours after a couple bong rips.

They can mess some people up that's for sure. They can cause paranoia and anxiety in some people. Plus they can have extremely high levels of THC. Most people have never smoked a true sativa as everything seems to geared towards fast flowering times.

Right now I just vape a little vapcap bowl of Blueberry, I kow I'm gonna be in bed and sleeping in 30 or 40 minutes (my body already feels heavy), and tomorrow I wake up as nothing. Some nights I vape some Malawi from ace (golden tiger is the other pure sativa I have but I can't sleep on that), and Malawi let you do whatever you wanna do, you want to go outdoors to fishing or whatever, or work, or sleep, malawi let you do all of it in low doses, but I always wake up still high, there is still that mod enhancer that can drive you to laugh if there are friends or good vibes, you feel it, there is still some... lag beetwen your brain/eyes tell you where your body or hand or foot is, and sometimes after sleep 6 hours even I have that visual feeling that you see your hands/foots reach his positions twice, like ghosting, for some reason I get... more aware of temps, I can feel temps almost like a thermometer xD and is one of the effects that more often reminds me that I'm still high, when I can feel so loud my surrounding/environment , I know that I'm still under effects, for me this is the opposite of indica.

Crazy that this thread was at the top when I logged in jut now. I just had this discussion with a doctor today during my medical card renewal visit. He says the indica vs sativa high is bullshit as well, and that if you feel one way or another its a placebo effect.

G'day folks

Indica Vs Sative High
or
The "narcotic, couchlock high of indicas" vs The "buzzy, head high of the sativas".

I've been growing for over a decade. I've grown probably 30+ different strains (so not a lot by any means, but a fair sampling nonetheless). I've grown a few indica, a bunch of indica dominant hybrids, and a few sativa dominant hybrids here or there. But as much as I want to, I havent grown a pure sativa yet because of the very long flowering lengths. And I live where weed is illegal so can't just go and buy sativa buds to try.

My experience makes me believe its more about the mood you're in, if you're hungry or not, if you're tired or not, what time you started smoking, or a million other environmental factors. Like, I've had one strain of weed for months on end, and some days it puts me on my ass really quickly with that couchlock feeling, but other days I'll feel energetic and productive, and other days the high seems to plateau early...and to reiterate, thats all from the same bud from the same plant. This happens to me with basically every batch I do, regardless of strain.

So with that taken into account, Im a little weary of the claim of the indica vs sativa high. Im not making any proclamations or anything, but it's just what it seems like from my experience. Granted, I've grown mostly hybrids, and have probably never had a pure sativa. But if an indica or indica dom hybrid can give me ALL the highs, then is trying a sativa really necessary? Doesnt that just disprove it?

I know people can be pretty easily manipulated with this kind of thing. Like the famous experiement where the researcher put dye in white wine, and let a bunch of oenology students taste the wine. The results? The students overwhelmingly used words usually used to describe red wine...despite the fact it was 100% a white wine that was merely dyed red. Or cut a banana in half, tell people that one is organic and the other isnt and they'll overwhelmingly choose the "organic" one as the best tasting, even though they both the same banana. So I see how people can be easily swayed if they're primed with what to expect.

And I didnt do a deep dive but in my basic quick google search the couple of results I looked at basically said nobody knows what causes each supposed effect, and some things once thought to be responsible have since been proven wrong.

So, thoughts?

Is it entirely a myth? Or at least slightly (or more so) over exaggerated?

Im leaning to the slighly (or more so) exaggerated at this point. Willing to listen to either side though (assuming there are sides...maybe its just me who is leaning this way). After all, maybe Im just an idiot...
I like a good hybrid of both

there is a major problem with that theory though... the first time I smoked pure sativa I had no idea about the supposed difference between indica and sativa. the difference between that and the Northern Lights and Afghani I was smoking at the time was immediately apparent. felt like I'd consumed 3 cups of coffee and half a tab of acid.

you can't have the placebo effect if you don't know what you're supposed to expect.

Yeah I don't know man, I tend to agree but I wasn't going to argue with him...I needed him to approve my renewal.

I would guess the doctor doesnt really know. Because he wouldnt say that if he did!

People find what they like precisely because there are so many differences.

The doctor may believe that genetically speaking there is little difference...meaning that when it comes to TREATING a patient with a cannabis anxiety issue or similar, their process for helping resolve the issue is the same...he doesnt change his response based upon indica / sativa.

That is true imo, but believe me doctors dont know, I have spent time with some of the best and ended up teaching them quite a bit about its benefits.

They are very open to learning but follow a very scientific process in how they approach their work. So they listen and learn but wont use that info until studies can prove it in a lab setting.

True sativas feel nothing like the early 2000s high everyone’s after. That’s why people are saying their is no difference. Bull shit. I promise anyone who says there is no difference has not experienced a pure sativa yet and promise they’re not ready for it.

Eyes wide open and stoned to the toe. Heart racing really hard. Feels almost un tolerable.
Then you go though a straight haze for hours.
some might say the most enjoyable. Some might say it’s laced. But it’s night and day different.

There are already studies well know about all of it, the very fisrt name comes to my mind is Raphael Mechoulam (he comes to Spain time to time, aka as Rafa), but there are others in Spain as well that are doing research from more than 20 years, even the first legal grow in UK is about some kind of mental disorders so they know very well about indicas/sativas and thc/cbd ratios and what kind of effects could show up.

I would love to grow and have a "pure" form of each to compare at home, under my own/same conditions for both.

I just think cannabis nowadays is so insanely hybridized, none of that shit matters as much, or at all. We already know crazy THC numbers aren't the be all/end all of potency and effect, yet people still chase high % numbers. ... self included, not gona lie.

I believe there is a difference between the two. Growing up in SoCal in the 70s we mostly got our hands on sativa, we’d be riding bikes or surfboards, hiking, etc. When indica buds came around we’d chill by the fire, listen to the doors and Led Zeppelin (not that we didn’t listen to them other times too, that’s just all we did,) and not be very active overall. I won’t go as far as to say one made you more high, but the highs were definitely different.

No man it's not a myth. What is really is, is a economics issue. Since time is MONEY people simply don't grow PURE sativa.

The high for me is way better on a Sativa than on any hybrid / indica strains. For me to be honest, I never have had a good Indica high. I hate the munchies and couch lock. If people weren't lazy enough already.

The sativa for me gives me nice energetic rush and clear head high sometimes a little psychedelic but manageable puts me in a great mood and keeps me like that for hours. like 6-8 hours.

I have yet to find that in any indica / hybrid strain. I don't seen any purposes to use it because it's not useful for me. Most people grow it because it's big and chunky and gets you a lot of flower.

It's like this man, you get what you pay for. If it takes longer it's probably better too.

On the negative side, most people wont get any sativa pure seeds because they simply don't breed them. Again, economics is the key word.

In the parts of the world where the sun shines 12/12 all year round it doesnt matter, and the heat is high and humidity too.

ECONOMICS 101. 99.9% people want today and cheap.
Just like cheap beer vs aged whiskey. Most people use drink cheap beer than aged whiskey.

Who are you speaking for? Where’s that survey backing up that 99.9% people Want cheap? And what part of the earth are you at where cheap beer is preferred over aged wiskey? People use delicacy’s for what they are. Unless your a raging alcoholic that drinks anything. Then cheap is good. I prefer a good example of the genetics provided. That’s not cheap.

Also in many places - you just don't get the length of season for pure sativa.
