Area 51 w90
Thank you for this. I've spent the past couple of days researching and I'm pretty impressed with the Area51 w90. At the moment 3 of those are my top choice for a 3x3 seed to harvest. I've also considered building my own rig since I used to build computers years ago, and I'm thinking of trying the New CREE Lumina 5.2 65W Grow LED http://www.ledgroupbuy.com/cree-lumia-5-2-65w-grow-led-5-channel-for-plants/

I think 3 or 4 of these mounted to a square heat-sink should give adequate coverage for a 3x3.

You're welcome to try it but I believe those lights are about 70-100lumens per watt. Legit units I sent you are about 2x that. But you're paying more.

Hey guys, I have a question. If you had a budget of 8,000-9,000 to spend on led lights, for an 8x8 or 10x10 grow room, what would you get? Been considering the solarstorm 880's, but now maybe platinum LED's

i want to build an led to cover a 4x8 space.

i'm confused which cxb3590 to buy. mouser has lots of different options and i don't understand why some are more expensive than others.

i was going to use 8 = 5.886" x 36" head sinks al la mau5.

and 4 709-HLG185H-C1400B.

i was not going to drill it or mount it and was going to do it quick and dirty with Prolimatech PK3 thermal paste.

Read around the led and other lighting threads before making an executive decision. There are far better options to consider.

Hi, i have bought 6 x cxb3590 36v 3500k CD, ideal holders and drivers.

I just noticed you can buy ideal connecter 50-2300an. Do i have to buy them or am i ok with just the holders?
cheers
The 50-2300AN connector/adaptor is for Ledil reflectors. No reflector = no connector.

So I'm looking at the area51 w90 to add to my 4×4 tent, I'm currently running a 250 watt optics vero 4000k with a cheap 600 watt galaxyhydro for some side lighting. The w90 3k has a month wait, but the 4k is only 1-3 week wait and the 5k is available now. what should I do as I want to flower in the next 2 weeks? Or does anyone one know of another company I can get a 90 watt COB similar to optic or Area 51

I'm assuming those are just parts? My searches just end up with parts.

So unless I take on the hassle of learning how to build my own LED light, there is nothing on the market that is pre built and can compete with a 400w mh for under $400-500??
Well the Apollo Purple Sun 384w COB LED worked well for me for my first LED before I made my own. 180w to 190w actual draw.

It sat next to my 600w HPS before I got rid of them both, and it only got an oz leas then the plant under the 600w.

Used it for 3 harvests and still is going strong. I also heard Apollo had great customer service and my light was under warranty if anything did happened.

That old setup wasn't getting me what I wanted though so I built my own. Reduced my total wattage for flowering in half, and expecting a larger yield too.

Here's why they are a complete waste of money ( the Chinese COB LEDs )

Yes, easy to be ignored here for mentioning the use of "full spectrum" chinese cob's. The conversation doesn't seem to allow for their use in combination which is where they may have a use. No doubt the chinese stuff is lacking in spectrum ranges as presumably experienced growers have commented on but I'm not certain they have no value in combination with "white" Vero's and CXA/B modern COB's.
I'm an old fart who in the last millennium may have in some fictitious story may have worked with primarily HPS and 1/3 MH, even watched a few grows from people who for some reason preferred the opposite ratio. We all grow what we grow... sometimes I wonder if the LED growers are just becoming better growers with experience. Based on the piles of returned towards credit for upgrades to LED from HID ballasts there must be something to it. Increased "oil production" is what the local shop owner claims is the main benefit.
The comparison of "as good as HPS" doesn't mean anything at all to me... but it worries me that I'm wasting money on LED experiments. No doubt, not needing to spend money on water cooling lights is the main reason I'm interested.
F it, I'm just growing lettuce and basil but always fun to read thoughts! For some reason my non-g00gl3 search engine always points to this forum. Salute and grow on!

I bought a couple just to play with. I knew what I was buying. I figured I'd experiment with these until I felt comfortable building a light. $19.95 shipped with the driver........... so no losss if it pukes!
