Recently got back on here. I've been doing a bit of reading on COB LEDs(and LED in general) and it had me interested.
It seems everyone just builds their own DIY style. Nothing wrong with that. I've just never been much of a electrical DIY'er. So I started looking at a few COB style models offered by a few companies. I stumbled upon a place nearby that seems alright. What do you guys think?
http://www.notaboutwatts.com/
Also would customizing the spectrum on one of these be beneficial? I would be using it a supplemental lighting alongside a HPS
I would rec looking into Vero 18/29 or CX (A)(B) 60 to 120 watts thru optic 3000K Flower or 4000K full cycle.
Components used in the build will determine the value of a fixture.IMO
COB spacing is very important when considering a fixture. Many companies are putting them to close IMO
DIY is best route

Heaven bright has more efficient styles imo. Less heat. But they're awfully expensive and only show one view of the lights in pics.
For heaven brights 4x Cree cob light $900 you could get 2 of GGL 4x Cree cob lights $450x2 No competition there in my book.

Because your able to space the W90s out and ya don't have to putem as close to the canopy as the 50watt 3070s for extended coverage.
If your looking to cover lots of area on a lower budget? Its hard to find something better at this time.

Yeah.... Costs less. But no optics so greater light lost because it's not directed
GGL panel makes about 28k lumens45%effieiency and 2 A51s 36% efficiency make 21k lumens.
Idk for the extra money no but you're getting 2x the hardware and in 2 years when these lights are outdated you can upgrade the GGL light yourself and still have a 4 cob light.

I agree with ya on the optics. I believe its 120 without, but like 60 to 90 depending on setup.
Any COB based fixture moving forward can be upgraded fairly easily unless they all start adding monos to them.

Sorry, I noticed it was 88 sterling after I posted. Still though, that's awfully cheap. I wouldn't expect much out of the quality of the hardware for that price, and if its pushing that much actual lummens then its probably rigged to run at less efficiency. Don't be surprised if half the diodes burn out after 4-6 months (or worse in the middle of your grow!!).

I would still go with the t-5 (2 sets would be even better) and add the LED floods, it will last much longer, bulbs are cheap and easy to get, its modular, and you can always use a good t-5/floods for seedlings and clones if you ever want to save up for something better. Plus you get more light surrounding your plant as opposed to 1 single iffy LED on top.

I guess in the end it depends on how much 88 pounds means to you, so if its not a huge deal, what the hell give them a shot, I just wouldn't expect them to last more than one grow.

I'm slowly in the process of phasing out my T5s for Vero 18 light bars. I just replaced a 4 tube T5 (~210 watts) with an 8 cob Vero18 running at 160 watts, and the plants love it.

Well If you can post links to exactly what you think would be better in a 3x4 area, all eyes on you.
Fixtures, bulbs, ballast (if needed) reflectors

Yes, easy to be ignored here for mentioning the use of "full spectrum" chinese cob's. The conversation doesn't seem to allow for their use in combination which is where they may have a use. No doubt the chinese stuff is lacking in spectrum ranges as presumably experienced growers have commented on but I'm not certain they have no value in combination with "white" Vero's and CXA/B modern COB's.
I'm an old fart who in the last millennium may have in some fictitious story may have worked with primarily HPS and 1/3 MH, even watched a few grows from people who for some reason preferred the opposite ratio. We all grow what we grow... sometimes I wonder if the LED growers are just becoming better growers with experience. Based on the piles of returned towards credit for upgrades to LED from HID ballasts there must be something to it. Increased "oil production" is what the local shop owner claims is the main benefit.
The comparison of "as good as HPS" doesn't mean anything at all to me... but it worries me that I'm wasting money on LED experiments. No doubt, not needing to spend money on water cooling lights is the main reason I'm interested.
F it, I'm just growing lettuce and basil but always fun to read thoughts! For some reason my non-g00gl3 search engine always points to this forum. Salute and grow on!

the Chinese cobs that I am familiar with burn out all the time, most in a year or less. I know I have a pile of Chinese cpb lights being recycled for parts. They belong in the garbage bin.

if you want to fill out the spectrum look at supplementing with monos for the specifc wavelengths you want. (UVA, Royal Blue, Deep Red, Far Red).

Hi guys. I need a feedback on my setup.

my growspace isn't that big. here are the dimensions: height is 34 inches, width is 22 and depth is 12
and I plant to grow maybe 1-3 plants in there

some people recommended me to get Mars 300W LED since it fits my space well.
would you guys suggets this product?

ok, haven't figured the quote thing out...

I just finished my single $21 30W blurple chinese COB / driver combo a few minutes ago - does it take the driver out when the COB fails? It's not like I'm going to order a six pack of backup COB's but might order a spare... but no need if it kills the driver.
