i need good soil

hey guys i live in an area where there is no hydro stores or anything like that

the only thing i have is lowes, wal mart, and home depot

i need some suggestions

basically you get what you paid for.. go to those locations and buy the most expensive potting soil they have... i have no idea what the price will be.. but it wont be a lot.. maybe 3 to 5 dollars a bag... should work out for you.. also get some perlite and mix in so its about 20% to 30% perlite.. this will help with drainage and aeration of the soil...

If that is all you can shop at go the organic route with no extra nuts. in the soil. You will need to ad 2 tablespoons of domolite lime per gallon soil. Also ad 25% extra perlite to however much soil you have. So

recipe
1 gallon organic soil
2 tbs. of Domolite lime Per gallon soil to help keep soil in PH balance
1/4 gallon perlite

Follow that and you should OK. Well I said ok b/c if you can find Ocean Forest you will never look back after seeing the results pal. Made specifically this plant. If you can find it sub for the above recipe OF and your plants will sing in happynes.....

I agree that foxfarm ocean forest is the shit. I cut it in half though. If you cant get good soil, why not look into deepwater culture? Order rockwool and nutes from hydroponics.net. Just somthing to look into.

i had a problem w soil and i switched everything to the coco plugs placed inside rockwool containers. my babies are happy now. every day i walk in there they are bigger and fuller. 31 babies, and all seem to be happy. i recommend this stuff, its cheap too

One of those places will have Black Gold, it is very good.

I go to the local garden centers, I hate lowes, walmart, home depot. Most of there soils sit outside and are easily contaminated. soil gnats, etc... If you got a local garden center near by, go there first. otherwise order online.

i agree with the garden center. i go to a nursery nearby and get sunshine mix by the bale. i know its soiless but i use it like soil.

Trust me even out in the country there must be a major city nearby (50 mile radius) that has streets and crosswalks and in that city there will be a hydroponic store.

sry man dont mean to take over your thread lol , how do u go about mixing the perlite in with the soil , do u leave it at the bottom 0r mix evenly ? and did u mean BLACK N GOLD ? or just BLACK GOLD ?

FOUR-WAY MIX:

1 part compost.
1 part top soil.
1 part perlite.
1 part "manure".*

Don't use "Backyard Dirt", use "Store-bought"! All 4 ingredients are redily available at Lowe's, Home depot, Ace Hardware, etc. For each gallon of "Mix", add about 1 or 2 Tablespoons of Dolomite Lime.

For Veg:
You can add a little "regular" Fish Emulsion (5-1-1) and/or "Mexican" Bat Guano (high Nitrogen), as a "Vegging" tea.
For Flowering:
You can add a little "Morbloom" Fish Emulsion (high Phosphorous) and/or "Jamaican or Indonesian" Bat Guano (also high Phosphrous), as a "Flowering" tea.

* Nothing too strong or fancy - the "Manure Part" should be about as potent as "regular", composted steer manure. I use some stuff called "Barnyard Blend", from Gardner & Bloome (I think Kelogg's distributes it)

i bought a manure bag to add to my soil mix one time and the day after the whole room smelled like urine and the plants were getting burned, i dont like that stuff. never used it again. i say proceed w caution, maybe you should rinse the soil a bit before you use it
