I'm going to order a 400W rebuild kit from them for like $70ish total w/shipping to replace the guts of my 250W that was SUPPOSED to be a 400w when I bought it from some dude. It's nice though comes w/2 year warranty and the new ceramic socket n' stuff. I'm stoked and I haven't ordered anything yet lol. =)

My first grow was all HTG supply. I went with the Dirty dozen no soil package I kinda regret that cause of the cheap aluminum hood(that had 2 ditch) came with it. The 400w ballast came from them with a new MH bulb they sent me (when the old one had a melting problem in the middle it was a growbright bulb) and It is working great. I recommend not too ever get dirty dozen package though, You can do cheaper buying what you need separate and a negative is there shipping. There warranty and service is top notch though!

The Maxwing hood that comes with it measures: 19" long x 16½" wide x 6" deep. It's fairly large, but it's open air. not air cooled.

The Free MH & HPS bulbs are store brand and aren't bad but they're not great. Its worth springing for the additional $24.00 and $36.00 to get some quality bulbs.
While we're on the subject, what do you think about the EasyCool 6 reflector over the Cooltube? I figure the EasyCool has a tempered glass lense, so that's pretty much the same concept as a cool tube, right?

Also, do you think the AgroMax bulbs are comparable to the Hortilux, or are the Hortilux bulbs worth the extra $40? Just wondering if the Hortilux bulbs are only a little bit better and hardly noticable or if they are like crazy better and worth the extra money.

Go with quality for flowering and get Hortilux. Go cheap for veg. Just my thought. I'm sure i will be corrected if needed.

I have never known anyone that used the EasyCool 6 reflector and I have not really read about them and I have not seen messages about them but I'd guess it's just a somewhat different version of the CoolTube.

I tend to use AgroMax much of the time. Its a very good bulb and can be found for a better value and am just not sure that the final results of a grow will greatly hang in balance over the difference between the bulbs.

The least expensive 600-watt light system was a Digital Greenhouse, digital ballast. With only standard features, no upgrades added, $99.95
Hey Brick Top, I took a look just for shits and couldn't find a 600w ballast for $99.95. Let alone digital. Are you sure we're talking about the same HTG?

this is the setup i bought from htg's ebay store:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Digital-600-watt-HPS-GROW-LIGHT-600w-6-GLASS-LENS-HOOD-/160510921233?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item255f324a11

ive got two of em, and no problems, ballasts run quiet and cool. definitely a decent price for someone just starting out...

$265 and free shipping

if you are placing a larger order with htg make an order and then put it through as a money order order or w/e so it saves, then call em up and ask em what they can do ya on a discount. they will typically hit you with 10% off...

Digital Ballast info:

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY IS THE GREATEST ADVANCEMENT IN GROW LIGHTS IN 35 YEARS!

MANUFACTURED BY "DIGITAL GREENHOUSE"

This is a HIGH OUTPUT DIGITAL ELECTRONIC BALLAST that operates both 600 watt High Pressure Sodium and 600 watt Metal Halide Lamps

The DIGITAL GREENHOUSE Electronic ballasts are more efficient and reduce energy consumption.

The DIGITAL GREENHOUSE Electronic ballast improves lighting quality and increases garden yields.

The DIGITAL GREENHOUSE ballast features patented "soft-start" technology which increases lamp life and stops voltage spikes on your power meter. The soft-start technology allows for 50% less power consumption during lamp startup and drastically reduced energy consumption overall.

The DIGITAL GREENHOUSE electronic ballast is lighter, smaller and more reliable than standard technology "core and coil" ballasts. It is also virtually silent, no noise or hum.! The ballast is totally sealed, which protects the unit from dust and dirt, ensuring a lifetime of trouble-free operation.

The DIGITAL GREENHOUSE electronic ballast has a built in "smart chip" and AUTOMATICALLY adjusts to Metal Halide or High Pressure Sodium bulbs. There is no need for a "switch" or to change systems, simply change from MH for vegatative growth to HPS for the flowering phase of growth.

The DIGITAL GREENHOUSE electronic ballast operates at a high frequency (20,000Hz) instead of the lowly 60Hz of standard core&coil ballasts. This allows the lamp to operate more efficiently, produce more usable light for plants and last longer. Lamp lumen loss is minimized allowing for a brighter system over time and extending usable lamp life.

Energy consumption is reduced and on average will save over $100 per year on electric bills.
The DIGITAL GREENHOUSE electronic ballast operates cooler than standard systems improving ballast life and reducing temperature in your growing area.

The DIGITAL GREENHOUSE electronic ballast plugs into standard 120v household current. Easy to use, Easy on the electric bill!
Digital Greenhouse ballasts are now UL listed! What does this mean? This means that Digital Greenhouse ballasts are now certified for safety by Underwriter Laboratories, the worlds leading electrical product safety organization. Check the other brands, are they listed, probably not. Demand safety, demand Digital Greenhouse.

Digital Greenhouse ballasts now come standard with a 5 year warranty, 3 years complete, 2 years pro-rated!

MaxWing Reflector

Measures: 19" long x 16.5" wide x 6 1/2" deep.

This Reflector is Compact and Powerful. Made from highly reflective (95%+ reflective) polished aluminum this reflector will not rust, corrode, chip or discolor. NOT made from inferior chrome which, under the intense heat of an H.I.D. lamp, will chip, fade and discolor over time. This Reflector is built to last a lifetime. It combines the high reflectivity of the mirror like finish of the polished aluminum with the excellent light dispersal qualities of a dimpled or hammertoned surface. This is simply the BEST material to use for H.I.D. lighting reflectors. The horizontal configuration delivers the maximum amount of light over the entire garden. Hammertoned surface eliminates "hotspots" and ensures lush, even plant growth.

Check out the upgrades below for further choices of reflectors.

HTGSupply 600w HPS Lamp

Brand New HIGH OUTPUT 600 watt High Output HPS bulb emits 95,000 lumens - standard 600w HPS bulbs which emit only 72,000 lumens. The 600 watt HPS bulb is a very popular bulb developed for the indoor hobbiest grower today.

Higher Lumen output for HIGHER YIELDS.

24,000 hour expected life span (one year is 8,760 hours)

ONE YEAR WARRANTY on bulb

Check out the upgrades below for further choices of bulbs.

Socket / Cord Set

The detachable Plug Cord Set features a 15’ heavy duty 16 gauge cord that attaches to the reflector. Cordset fits major brand reflectors including High Yield Lighting brand reflectors. If you ever desire to UPGRADE to a different reflector, this CordSet allows you to do so!

I have the Euro hood, basically the same as the Easy-cool except it has flanges on both end. It appears that the easy-cool has only 1 flange and the other side is just flush.

Love my hood, the glass never gets hot, my plants can touch the glass and not get heat burn.

can the easycool/eurohood/cooltubes all be hung vertically?

This is only an assumption, but a logical one nonetheless, I would say yes they could be hung vertically .. as long as bulbs that were made to be used vertically were used. The rest should, more or less, just be hanging and routing differences for various things.

would be nice to just hang a cool tube vertically and duct the heat out right through the top hole.. also, from what i've seen, vertical grows seem more efficient if you are growing in confined spaces.. altho i did see a 1g/1w harvest on a singular plant from a horizontal scrog.. it was incredible.. as always, torn

Cool Tubes work great for temperature control as long as you have enough air passing through them to extract the heated air from the bulb. If you have enough air movement through the tube no heat will escape it into your growing area. If you draw in your light-cooling air from outside the room/area, and of course extract the heated air outside your growing area you not only do not have the heat to contend with but you can run CO2 without it being extracted by fans drawing out warm/hot air. It's all about proper air movement through the light tube extracting heated air. If you can do that right Cool Tubes are just that, cool. If not, they are not.

I'd buy fans from them (fans wear-down anyway, I'd go cheap on them). I'm sure they're just chinese knock offs of cans or vortex. Thee hood prices for the generic stuff they sell are pretty cheap.
However their prices for normal name brand items are no better or worse than their competition. In fact this is the best hood deal on the net for name brand quality items (they'll even let you sub out the hood for something better or the same price)...
http://www.greners.com/packages/systems-kits/ballast-light-hood/super-awesome-package.html

I got this package and upgraded to a Magnum XXXL hood (which by the way is built like junk) for 550 or so. Not a bad deal since you get the hood, something to hang the hoods with, a ballasts, and a name brand quality bulb.

me and my uncle have some. the ballasts and hoods are legit, however several bulbs have been sent back.

my take on it I will continue buying the 600 watt hps bundles, I however will go to the hydroponic store and throw down 80-$100 on a good bulb before I ever start it up because I know in good time those cheap ass bulbs they throw in there bundles to keep the price down are junk.

customer service is an A+ all the way, no questions asked as long as your covered by warranty. Go with em but buy a "GOOD" bulb for back-up while you are waiting for them to replace the one that burnt out that got sent with it. "even the replacements are junk" HTG supply!
