HPS KILLER Grow Journal

He should have chose a better title for it then, Agreed?
You made your point and you call BS in response to anything that is said, making you look like an ignorant fool that is unable to tabulate lumens or par watts, either in defense of your light or in offense of the LED in question or anything other than "Gavita good" like some half retarded cave man. You aren't upsetting anyone aside from the fact that you're pissing in someone's grow log. Good job bro.

I think the OP is allowed to have an opinion in his own thread.
If he gets better results with led lights than he did with HPS thats great.
I don see this thread title being an attack on anyone who doesnt want drama and attention.

If I made a thread and said tennis is the best sport I WOULDN'T expect NFL players to come bomb my thread with spam and hate.

heehee,

I have to agree with chucky, cree cob leds are NOT HPS Killers at least NOT yet, and that the title challenges diehard HPS'ers to troll.

Until the price on the cobs comes down a bit more, a basic COB light is simply too pricey to knock out HIDs. They grow well enough, the gain in efficiency is fantastic and certainly pays off in the long haul, but the entry price is still too high.

Try outfitting a 100 light 1K HID operation and look at the amount that one has to finance OR tell someone with a 5x5 tent on a limited budget that they have to spend close to 2 grand for a decent set of lights.

I like the way you expressed your opinion without trying to b confrontational.
You have valid points, and although price has come down thy are still expensive W/$ in initial investment.
There are pros and cons to every lighting choice, and those also depend as you mentioned on your particular grow requirements.

First week of veg under the light. Running at 300w vegging my 5x5 and doing real well. Watering coco everyday. Noticeable growth everyday. Nice node spacing as well. Didn't expect as good of veg with the 3000k as I am getting.
They are looking good so far.
I haven grown any GSC cuts that were worthwhile. I think I got fake cuts.
I might revisit the GSC down the road.

I ran 60 seeds to find my keeper. Ran 30 BCBD and 30 Cali connection and selected the best. A bunch hermed out. Buy the one I ended up with is fire and taste and high is amazing. Rock hard buds but lower yield but still well worth growing.

Fighting on the internet is for wimps.
When men grow up and fight they do it one on one in person with their fists.
At least thats what I call normal.
We all have different opinions, express it and be done with it.
All this is stupid IMO.
Back to the thread.

who's fighting? If I can't have an opinion, then it's not a forum, open for discussion, it's a bunch of girls crying because they can't have their way to talk about their toys.

funny how mad you girls get when confronted with the truth.
I don't know why you got dinged, Chuck, I thought we were having a grand old time, disagreement or not. We did sort of hijack @Getgrowingson's thread, but friction makes internet forums work, if we all agreed on everything how lame would that be? And now his thread is growing, pure win for everyone as far as I'm concerned. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress, OP, looking good for 1 week @ 300W.

Update :

Been 5 days since I took pics. Light was actually running more around 200w. They still are growing beautifully. Little minor underfeeding as it's the first time using this light. I'm thinking either mag or p at this point. Did a light foliar after I took pics and will up concentration of nutes. Very impressed with the light this far. Being able to dim is key when foliar feeding as well.

Are you planning to keep light dimmed that much?

It's doing awesome for veg at the power I'm running. Will transplant soon to a 5 gal then turn it up to 400. Veg for a few more weeks then for the first 6 weeks of flower I'll have her maxed out around 600w. Then probably turn it down the last week or two of flower again.

Is there an advantage to dimming the light at the tail end of flowering besides saving energy?

HID bulbs do not emit as much light/W as high efficiency LED, so how does HID win besides being cheap up front?

Besides, is HPS cheaper? According to Growershouse spectroradiometer PAR maps from this article, the best performing hood for the 1000W DE HPS, by far was the AC/DE style, a $300 hood.

AC DE hood $300
1000W DE bulb $110
1000W digital ballast $200
Hood ventilation fan+ ducting $50 per hood?
Total $660 for 400 PAR W = $1.65/PAR W

GGS COB light mentioned in the original post cost $1000 for 338 PAR W = ~ $3.25/PAR W

When you consider the fact that GGS COB light can do the same job with half the wattage of the HPS, the COB LED actually cost less than HPS. That is before you factor in cooling cost savings, ventilation fan electrical savings, lamp electrical savings, bulb replacement savings and reflector replacement costs.

You mean to say if one out fits their room with 12 cob fixtures that hit a 4x4 area, that their not going to need cooling? Im finding that hard to believe. So basically if one wants to fill a 20x20 area full of cobs, there's no cooling?

where can I go buy this awesome light you speak of? and how come all commercial growers are not rushing to this store to buy some???
You did see the back up and rush to copy the DE style lights, right?
