How to secure your p.c from snoopy people

I used to use Firefox, but then I started using Chrome which I found out sends a bunch of your info back to Google or something like that. But some people took the code or whatever it is and took all the shit out that sends your info back to Google. They released it as SR Ware Iron. So now I use Iron and it's a lot faster than Firefox, but it doesn't have the add-ons Firefox has.

Chromium source is what they used to make it(srware iron). the source code is not really data protected but iron is very fast. if you have firefox type about:config in the address bar and look around. there are a lot of really cool things you can do with that. faster, more protection, custom things... a lot.

ive ran into you in a few other threads and i must say . you are quite the negative person. i dont give a flying bird how "popular" you are among the locals of riu, you are just negative and a naysayer. chill with that shit dude. really. if you dont have anything positive to say then vamoose with your bad self. avg is a great tool when paired up with pg2. what do you use?!? post your specs to help others, dont come on here talking trash and not give help. i have a ba in computer tech, have developed software, worked for some upper eschelon companys and am a linux lover to boot so dont tell me that what i post sucks man. your profession is to grow right(as one of your post said). well this is my hobby, MY PROFESSION is computers. this post was for beginners turd. such a negative person. i would appreciate it if you didnt follow my post anymore tec. thanks.

toodles

I'm not going to get into a huge explanation of my professional history in the industry... I'm just going to say that if you're going to suggest someone use any specific software to protect them from online threats, the software should be credible, safe, and offer some accountability.

First off avg is and for the past few years either #1 or in top 5 best anti virus programs out so i have no idea what you mean by "horrible". yes some people have had problems with avg with later versions (as well as myself) but so what, its a computer program that works great. unless you UNKNOWINGLY AND WITHOUT BRAINS clicked on some random ass download with out scanning first then yeah NO anti virus program can deter that. the pc is only as smart as its user bub.

By that logic we might as well not even bother trying to secure our systems. Good protection won't even let the infected file land on the hard disk.

As for firefox, its the fastest top rated browser used. please dont tell me your still on ie ...... not only does ff stop popups by itself, there are an abundant amount of add ons that ff offers to its users. so why would you say its garbage?.......
Did you not read? It's plainly exposed to huge security issues coming from development. Also, it sure didn't stop the popups from happening when an infected file was released as part of the 2.0.0.14 package. Firefox is crap freeware, regardless of how much everyone loves it.

Not only did i say that this post was for beginners.. I ALSOOOOOO gave them the link to utorrent. from there they can get virtually ANYTHING free from microsoft 07 to AVG COMPLETE. ALL FOR FREE!!!

Yeah... piracy- an issue of ethics that I won't even offer an opinion on... Your enthusiasm about it indicates the type of professional career you've had, and the amount of risk you might be willing to bring to a company or even a person who reads your post.

NOW
For the more expierenced users out there wanting better than this i suggest downloading the newly released Ubuntu http://www.ubuntu.com/

from there you can do anything you want. the linux open source tools are very very fun.

you can even use nmap. its all open source so you can tinker how you like. that is, if you know how

How do you figure you can use nmap to snoop on people?

was that a joke..........hmm............... anyway, the GREAT SUPER FANTABULOUS thing about all software is that it all has a back door. if you know the proper precautions in closing that "hole" then YES tech, there IS a point in installing these programs.

Not all software have "back doors"

why does your website track ip's?? first off its wrong

Your IP Address is: 72.178.102.30

nope. its not. i found a flaw in your source code tech. can you see it [blahblahblah user copies webpage source into forum post lololol.

That's not my website.

Anyhow, like I said to you in reply to your PM you sent me... I have no problem with you, just software that offers no true protection produced by companies who offer no accountability.

Also, if there is a flaw in this source, why not show it? I know the owner of the site would like to know. Also, do you actually want me to explain why e-commerce sites track IP addresses?

You've been here since October and have 500+ posts. You still consider yourself a new person? It's not my job to make people feel welcome. We have a doormat for that. Of course, when you want to discuss the subject of security, and refer people to links that have software that is known to be buggy, or occasionally release with malware or viruses, I am going to mention it. Security is one thing, and liability is another, but they should go hand in hand when purchasing software designed to perform. If a companies product doesn't work, I want the developers to be held accountable- and you just don't get that type of support with freeware. Give it a few years, as you get promoted to the higher level positions you will see why being able to deal with the bullshit is important. Fuck ups are much more dangerous to your career when you're high up in the chain, and knowing how to divert responsibility is something you'll hopefully pick up soon, because it's one of the things you will have to learn to reach a position with great responsibility. Either way... just a little insight from someone who's been around the block in IT a few hundred times, and who has had great successes and great failures. Take it for what it's worth.

look grow. im gonna stomp this right now. first off i could give a flying shit about anything you write toward my posts. with that said i posted this thread to start people out in their own quest to software, not to give the latest and greatest info on it. so what if certain software has problems. it is free and im sure not everyone on here has an upper eschelon type career in the i/t field to be buying the best programs and fastest support blah blah.. this is freeware to those who want it. not those that can afford other stuff. im sure you are great at your job and are very very high up on the chain ladder whatever, but do you even know where i've worked for you to be throwing comments this way.. no you dont. so what if i left or got fired or found different things. to be honest with you id rather be happy toking it up at a socially mediocre job that im happy with than some cisco zombie.

i really dont see how you are helping ANYONE on this post by just telling them that this software sucks and dont use it and blah biddy blah blah... post something useful and tell these growers what to use. i can see that you are very smart and obviously very opinionated, but dont bring negativity without posting some positivity.

i actually respect your post and honestly its what keeps me hitting the reply button. ive seen some of your post and like them. they are insightful and have actually helped me a bit along my path. so thanks for that. and the video help was great. but dont come on my post and just throw negative vibe or post your opinion without giving some proper help.

maybe some day we can get along as growers seeming as we both have a likeminded hobby. or maybe not. whatever right. thats it grow. im gonna smoke and play socom now. see ya tech

I'm not trying to post negativity... just making things clear on the software front. It's important that people are aware that there are companies out there that insure their product, and if anything happens a lot of companies will cover the cost of data recovery, etc. These are things you will never find with freeware, along with the fact that a lot of freeware is unknowingly packaged with malicious or counterproductive code. Freeware is awesome, but definitely not when you're looking for something to provide extra security against people snooping...

I'm also not trying to come off as if I am saying ALL freeware titles suck... there are a lot of good titles out there, that have excellent reputations such as CrapCleaner. It's just a matter of personal choice I guess... You can be the guy who spends $50 a year on complete protection, and have very little to worry about... or you can be the guy who spends $0.00 and assumes his safety. I would just rather not end up being blackmailed or threatened should anyone see the content of my computer system.

Too many image uploaders, trojans, etc. and I don't think ANY of us what our personal photo collections, or anything else identifying getting out to the public.

Well...I just read this whole thread, but I'm quoting this one...I use Avira antivrus. It's free.Let's not forget hijackthis, either.I have a folder with Nearly 100 little tools for computer optimization.I'm no expert, however.I use comodo firewall,winpatrol,lavasoft2008,avira antivirus, spybot search and destroy, avg antispy, malwarebytes anti malware, and hijack this all regularly.I rarely get malware. But I have nearly 4 Gigs of ram, so you folks may not want to run as many antispy's.Go with the firewall, avira, and spybot.
and just to note... AVG free does a HORRIBLE job protecting you... definitely not worth noting as secure, and you also don't get free real time virus updates...

and it wasn't even a year ago firefox was released with virus leftovers that caused popups on hundreds of thousands of computers.

The smart thing to do is not keep things like that on your computer, store it onto something like a dvd/cd/exc.

Commodo Pro (free) impressed me when I first found it. Good firewall, I think. Now they've integrated an AV in there recently . . . if it's all they hope, it may be pretty much all the security I need, along with a couple shredders, like CCleaner.
I've gotten some interesting apps here (full, licensed versions) . . . Giveaway of the Day - free licensed software daily.
It's where I stop on my way here every a.m.

I don't know a whole lot, but IMO, if THEY want your data, THEY can probably get it, security be damned.

I appreciate this thread, pirate. I was looking for bit of a net-security primer, and that is what you provided. Your exchange with tech actually serves to make the subject a bit clearer. He is very skilled with words, even if he did skimp on hard information, and his opinions do frame the topic. Thanks for the info.
