High homer371! To answer your second question, to the best of my knowledge the perfect time to switch to 12/12 is after the plant starts having alternating nodes. That means it has reached it's full sexual maturity. You should get better yield, potency, etc doing it that way. (I read that, so not sure if I can say that it's 100% true lol)

thanks allforit. i think you're right about that. i believe my girls are there already, but kinda hard to tell with the crazy lst'ing and pruninng i've beeen doing. there's a delicate balance between going for biggest possible buds and avoiding constrained roots... i'm not looking to go to bigger on the pots, so i'll keep that in mind as well. so likely within the next week...

only problem with that is the height.. depending on your grow area you have to remember a plant is gonna damn near triple its size after you switch to flower.. mine went from about 6in tall lst'd to about 1 1/2 ft tall or so..

not sure exactly what your growing in but if its confined just make sure you switch early enough to have room for the stretch or pick up some bushmasters its about 20 bucks for 4 oz and vert growth usually stops in like 2-3 feedings so it doesn't take much.. I think I mixed in 1/4 teaspoon into 1 gal water was all...

good call, monk0. i'm well aware of the stretch you got on your plant, that's why i'm thinking of switching on the earlier side. thanks for the bushmasters suggestion, i'll see if i can find it locally. i'm also probably gonna keep lst'ing a bit the first week of 12/12, bending the branches out so at least the first part of the stretch is horizontal. we'll see. it's hard to predict a little bit how the plant is gonna grow in a couple of days, let alone a week!

lookin good man. subbed.
thanks randy, welcome to the show! +rep

lookin real nice bro
thanks lee, appreciate it.

I got my bushmasters on amazon, it was around the holidays so it took forever to get... So if you can't find it locally just look up bushmasters on amazon and you should be able to find the 4oz bottle for 20 usd....

I may have done something wrong with my girl then because she has only grown vertically about 2-3 inches since flowering started. It may be strain related but I have seen some wicked tall NL's out there.

yeah, i found that on amazon. i've been reading mixed reviews about it (like if you use a little too much, it really hurts the plant). i'm gonna see if they carry it locally and then just monitor my plant's stretch. if it's stretching, then i'll buy it, if not i'll stick to lst (more like Hst the way i'm doing it, lol).

yeah, or doing something "right". if the goal was to keep her short, you definitely did that.

Size of pot and the roots might have something to do with it...
true, good point as well. i have my girls in 2 gallon pots (last grow was 1 gallon). how big are your guys' pots, arch & monk0? just curious as i'm expecting my plants will end up looking like something in between both of yours...

humm.. i do have input... lol... i feel that everything is related to stretch... soil, additives, size of container, shape of container, strain, feeding schedule, temperature, humidity, etc... i'm switching to dwc to find out what kind of growth i get outta those... hummm.. im too stoned to make a concrete answer...

haha no problem micro. i hope you're enjoying (already enjoyed?) your arjan kush... how has was the cured bud? did you give it a full cure, i forget? i'm curious about the whole dwc as well, mainly because of the freedom it gives you to leave town for like a week and not worry about the plants. maybe i'll attempt that my next grow.

I hope this is not too off topic, but I am planning on doing a SOG style grow with 1 gallon pots for my next grow. If you don't mind my asking, how did the 1 Gal work out for you and why did you change ? This grow was completely spontaneous, but I am trying to do some research and planning for my next...

hey that's great to hear micro. nothing like smoking your own shit. i still have 6 or so grams of each of my diesels, i found my favorite is to mix them both up (about 2/3 sour and 1/3 purple) for a nice balanced up high, with some body effects but not overwhelming.

no prob dread, not at all off topic. the 1 gal worked out fine for the first grow, i think you'll find the same thing. i just wanted to go a bit bigger the second time around, mostly so i could be more generous with my harvest. i got 1/2 oz each plant the first time, so if i get 1 oz each now i'll be able to give away half of it to friends and still have enough for myself. how many plants are you planning to do next time?

I just started 3 seeds in my my brand new DWC setup and am going to be growing side by side with 2 plants in soil. All seeds were started as the same time, and I'll keep ya posted on the progress. So far so good, but I've been reading alot on DWC and hydro setups, and there is still some basic maintanance involved, mostly requiring one to check PH and PPM frequently. I will be doing neither for a while seeing as I don't have the monet to invest, but I WILL pick up a few paper PH test strips. It seems there are just as many factors to control if not more when it comes to growing in a hydro setup, but I'm still really enthusiastic about it. These seeds are like 3 or 4 days old.

homer.. your gonna give away half to your friends? what a pal you are homie...
did i say half? haha, yeah that does sound like a lot, but i do like giving pot away to friends if i can. and since i don't smoke that much myself, depending on my harvest size, i should be able to give some nice april 20 presents this round.

good info meta, and nice sprouts you got! i always though hydro was easier once you got it set up, but it sounds like it may not be that straight forward.

i also heard this cool trick from about using string to wick up water from a lower source, in regular soil... has anyone heard of this? the idea is that you raise your pot by a few inches and hang some string from the drainage holes into a water reservoir. as the soil in the pot gets dry, it starts sucking up moisture via the string from the reservoir. sounds just crazy enough it could work, lol

In my opinion, plant size, and to a portion stretch, is related to container size mostly, with strain/genetics playing a small, very small, part. (However, with CFL, that plays a HUGE PART. If you are growing CFL, and want less stretch, keep that baby 2 in. or less to light.) Why? A plant can only possibly get as big as it's roots will allow. You can grow a small plant in a 6in. container, but not a 8 ft. tall one. Small container=small plant. Larger container, or in the backyard=big plant. I know this to be true because this last summer I planted a container garden in front of my house. Peppers and such. Basil, etc. The smaller containers produced the smallest plants. All across the board. Cannabis in no different than any other plant. It's not special in that manner. It is in other manners/ways :) So if you want a smaller plant, use a small container. If you want to keep stretch down, LST. I was able to LST my plant all the way to flower. Once you get her trained to bend, you can do it as long as you need to. Now maybe I fucked up on that, I know I didn't do right in the fact that I didn't let her face the light in a horizontal manner. Hmm. Maybe that was cause I LST her too much? Wow. Well, now I have some self doubt lol. But yes, you can lst even in flower. I did lol, and she didn't break. (I'm really baked lol) Sorry.
Ok!! Stop! eeercchhh!!! brakes on!!!! enough!!! (Listening to some Sublime. Great stuff. And some STP. And some Creed.)
I think I lost my point. Hope this helps lol. I'm gonna go find my brain lol. :)

homer371, I found my brain, and my point. If she starts stretching too much, just tie her down. Do more LST. It won't break her stems or nothing. Just keep her horizontal to the light. That was my point :) Just tie her down lower. It's that easy. That way, you can have the tallest cola's possible, and she will be fine! :)
