Homemade oil for my vape pen

If the rosin is buttering up then it sounds like it has not been properly winterized and filtered. The buttering action is typically caused by the lipids that the winterizing process removes.

My end product without any terps added is like the consistency of distillate, which most ccell carts handle just fine in raw form. It needs to be slightly warm to even load. I only add the terps in mostly for flavor as the process of purging the ethanol removes lots of the natural terps. I can vape it without terps and the consistency never changes, just not much flavor. I add 2 drops of terps per 1ml of product. I also add 2 drops of Floraplex terpene dilutent per 1ml. I found adding that improves the viscosity of the oil in it's cooled state. When I flip the cart I want the bubble to crawl whereas without either product the bubble simply won't budge. Having a bit more viscosity seems to result in much better usage in the cart.
Hmmm, wonder what I'm doing wrong winterizing? I use 200 proof ethanol in a mason jar at same ratio as your recipe for 3 days in freezer. Then I filter through coffee filter. Then refreeze for day and last run it through .22 syringe filter before evaporating ethanol.

It's not exactly buttering up like regular rosin does after few days after being pressed. It gets thick and looks like little balls of transparent shatter almost. It still vapes like this but doesn't use all the "oil" in the cart up.

Interesting, can you send a pic? I've never experienced that. Your winterizing process seems on point.

I'd be interested to know how long it takes you to evap off the ethanol. Are you sure it's all out?

Could you have possibly blown through your syringe cartridge?

I evaporated for few hours on wax melter then let it sit out overnight afterwards. I didn't smell no ethanol. Sorry I don't have any pictures that you can tell what's going on since I vaped them down to nothing almost. I haven't made anymore since just been burning flowers.

No I don't think so, it happened on 2 different batches made at different times and 2 different strains.

I'll make another batch here tonight of Gorilla Cake and check back in once the carts are made with some pictures. Thanks fellas!

I filter through the .22 filters and my carts still turn dark. I don’t use distillate..... so they are going to turn dark..... after a couple 100 ... they still turn dark but quite effective, great buzz

After reading that @cannabineer was putting straight distillate in his carts,I was inspired to try it myself. Success! I do have to say,it's a bit rough on my lungs but way stronger than any dispensary cart. I plan on getting the distillate tested, but it's an hour drive to get it to a courier who then transports it to a lab.

If a product is good,or a website has great customer service,I dont mind being beat over the head with their info lol. HamiltonDevices is A1! Good call @curious2garden . I ordered and received my ccell battery and carts, across the country in 3days! :peace:

I'm glad to hear it worked for you. Yeah it is a bit strong full strength ha! The CCells don't last forever but they seemed to last longer than the cheap chinese knock offs.

Thank you for thinking of me and letting me know how they worked out. I have no affiliation with them, just a happy customer.

Of course. It's one stop shopping, what is there not to like about the place?! If i had one complaint,it's that they dont sell filling syringes in small quantities? I just rinsed the one they sent really well for further use. Thanks again for the info.

@cannabineer buys his off Amazon. They aren't glass but they work fine and so far have been holding up perfectly in the freezer. He can show you the ones he gets.

Hi! Yes, I am super pleased to have found a cart that works with just distillate!

And lol yes, learning to take a hit has been a learning curve. I've learned to take draws based on heated interval (about 1 to 1.2 seconds button time with my Kanger Vola battery) because by the time I feel the hit, I'm in for a serious coughing bout followed by an unplanned moonshot.

The syringes are these:

I use these nuts; they're the stuff for storage.

Add these needles and you're off to the races.

Fantastic. Thank you for the links. That makes it easy.

Yeah,I have gone overboard with my draws. It starts off really smooth, then it's too late lol.I really like the taste, floral like that is more pronounced than the co2 carts I've tried, but I'm a bit confused at what I'm tasting...if I'm doing soxhlet extraction, followed by filtering then
simple distillation, shouldnt all terps be long gone?
When I get more time,I'd really like to get it tested for any residual and thc%.

I also do a distillation after a Soxhlet extraction; mine is bulb-to-bulb. I figure I'm losing some but not all of the monoterpenes, but the sesqui-and diterpenes are pretty much kept. This changes the flavor profile to less fruity and more earthy/spicy. I'm puttering with replacement monoterpenes, d-limonene (orangey) and l-limonene (lemony). The d-limonene is an excellent thinner in the 1-5% range (for those really thick distillates; it's a strain thing) and the flavor disappears in the vapor.

I do like the CCELLs. They make distillates so convenient that they're all I "smoke" any more.

any brands of monoterpenes you like? Thats what I use with mine as well, although I didnt find they were as efficient for using as a cutting agent. Although I use Linalool instead of limonene.

The d-limonene is "Florida Laboratories" brand.

The l-limonene is from CCS LLC.

Both were Amazon purchases.

I haven't used linalool. I dislike the way it smells. The lab had a bottle which staaank imo.

Awesome, I use a lot of CCS terps as well. Do you know if the only difference between say that brand and "elevated" brand terpenes is marketing? i mean, if its all pure terpenes what makes a 200% price difference? Thanks for your insight.

I have no idea what "elevated" means or could plausibly mean. One of my basic dogmas in this game is that molecules are molecules, regardless of source. So I am inclined to think of "elevated" as an instance of "magical thinking" converted into a suggestive but uninformative brand name. My favorite instance of similar unscience were the folks who made a pretty penny on "frequency-adjusted water" as a hammer against spider mites.
Magical thinking, skillfully applied, turns into quite mundane profit.

Lol sorry I thought it was more clear, yes “Elevated” is just a brand, the same that “CCS” is a brand. I was just wondering why “Elevated” charges 3 times as much as “CCS” for the same product, say Myrcene.
