My lettuce goes for $400 a head.

I do love a company that has independent testing done. There is a difference between the HLG spectrum claim and the Independent lab claim but I would not call either of them "dog poo" as you do. The fact is that the Rspec grows fantastic plants and they really thrive under this spectrum.

The way some carry on the sun shines out of HLG ar*e, there's other companies out there doing the same thing, HLG just spin more than others and you can only spin so much before people cotton on , in my own view lights worth looking at are the GLA brand from Aussie ( made in Aussie and sold world wide) ,

LOL, the sun shines out of their lights, not their ass. All the talk in the world does not change the results of thousands and thousands of actual successful grows. Are HLG the best thing ever invented, no. Are they great lights for producing great plants, yes they are. You want to buy from Australia, go for it. Nothing wrong with that.

It's kinda known what hps spectrums do to bud quality / density.
It's ok though - all these new companies can keep chasing the wrong path only concerning theirselves with µmoles rather than PBAR.
What do you think the efficiency rating of the 600HPS would be if you actually counted all of the radiation outside of 700nm? ;)
I grew for years with 600w HPS. Ushio is definitely a preferred lamp for me. Since switching to LED, I haven't experienced anything negative in terms of quality or bud density. Main thing I've experienced is reduced electricity costs and improved yield.

In terms of counting radiation above 700nm, how high would you go? There is a pretty big IR spike at 820nm, but what's the point of counting all that heat in considering efficiency?

You've been posting about victor and amare since you joined, so it seems you do have some kind of stake in their success. I may be wrong, but not likely.
So im curious now.... For someone that has never touched one, why the interest?

The Gavita 1700e is 1700 PPF, and is only rated for a 4 x 4. I think they are slightly overrating the foot print of the light.

Gavita says the 1700e is a direct replacement for a 1000w HID in a 4 x 4 area. The Hortilux HPS is the most powerful SE-HID at 1600 PPF. Hortilux was also developed spe4cifically for a 4 x 4 area.
The HLG 650R is 60w-610w, and is 1700 PPF, and $1100.

What am I missing?? 650r is more powerful, and costs less???

One can buy a Gavita for $1300.
Gavita is 645w
Nothing it is as you say HLG 650 is more powerful and costs less lol:D

I don't know why they say that and the info all over the internet says to keep LED's 12-18" away but my 320W XL QB V2 R SPEC's will roast my plants at 12 inches and highly stress them at 18 inches. Even if you look at the HLG grows on the GML podcasts, the company themselves run their boards a solid 36 inches above the canopy and never adjust them.

I've been meaning the make a thread discussing this.
Simple solution keep em close and dim (bonus chip efficiency increases as they are running cooler)...

Or crank them up, and supplement with CO2... Too much light and not enough CO2 = Limiting factor

Optimize for your plant's Maximum genetic potential in terms of light, temps, nutes, environmental's

I run CO2 at 1300ppm. Right now, I have them cranked all the way up and hang them high. They actually run at 330 watts, not 320 as advertised. I just bought some light movers. Going to install them and dim the lights to 250 watts each and move them closer to the canopy and see how they do.

They advertise 100-340 Watts. 330 watts is more than 100, and less than 340, lol.

Not to be a doubter, but timbers cypress looks like some competition
The build of the cypress looks absolutely awesome, moveable bars etc. Diode count visavi wattage is a different matter unless im missing something: 4qbs worth of diodes, of what looks like an lm561c (or h but looks 5630 package), so a gen behind and driven at 725w, kind of bordering on over max watts per diode. I would querry it with the guys at timber but maybe not here cause its a thread about another light.

Dont take this all too serious cause i know some brands do double die chips nowadays in small package, meaning higher max amps, but id expect them to lead with that in their marketing blurb. I really hope im wrong cause i like the timber guys and what theyve done, offering specialty spectrums and keeping their customer base really positive and just dealing really well with every issue ive seen pop up.

Id buy the whole bar construction in a heartbeat, and then throw on some strips of my own, the f-strip double row was down to 2$ just a few weeks ago and that would be double the diodes.


Edit: ok so this has been answered sorta. Still dont get the whole reasoning behind driving the diodes so hard, its like more than any other midpower light ive seen. So little extra money for parts would have made this much more appealing, or even using strips built by samsung. I suppose the pcbs with the diodes are custom and this is driving price. Still looks like an excellent bar design though.

Hi Rocket Soul,

First off - thank you - I appreciate the post and the items you raised questions about are ones that are “controversial” but deliberate.

One important factor in component selection was at the diode level. As such we went with a Samsung branded and warranted product to ensure supply chain availability as well as consistency/reliability in build quality. The strips are a Samsung product that uses the LM561C diode rather than the more efficient LM301 style diode. The larger form factor of the LM561C along with their placement (density) on the board were all contributing factors in the product design, among many others. We use custom drilled frames that also double as heatsinks in addition to thermal interfacing, keeping operating fixture temps low in order to manage the current (power) levels.

Overall fixture efficiency is estimated at or better than 2.2-2.3 umol/J which still represents an efficiency level that should be more than acceptable to most growers. For the price, overall lower output and spread as well as fixture upgradabity/adjustability and customizable options we feel that the Cypress delivers a compelling option for someone looking for mid powered diode based lighting.
