HLG Quantum Board Question

I just don't think you will be able to run 2 of those hlg 600's with side lighting in a 4x8 at full wattage. But I've never grown before so i may be wrong.
yea each hlg 600, covers a 4x4 space! throwing in a few 2ft. uv bulbs or maybe even a deep red wouldn't be an issue at all, some may say it's unnecessary, but that I'll find out once I have the hlg, and start looking for sup. light to add!

I also have dedicated breakers for my lights so power isn't an issue either.

Lol I've been considering running 2 of the HLG 600s over my single 4x4 table(5x5 canopy). I've currently got a 1k hps and when I convert to LED it won't be to cut power usage it will be to increase light coverage at max intensity. I keep my 1k between 12-14 inches from my canopy and get awesome growth, but the edges of the canopy obviously don't get the amount of light that the center does.

I figure with 2 of the 600s or 3 of the 330s or whatever the 3 board light is called. I'd be able to increase intensity spread over the whole canopy evenly. And still pull about the same wattage I currently do.

Im not sure 2 hlg 600 will fit, as in space wise, aren't they like 3 ft. wide? unless ur not in any kind of tent and have no walls, then I'd say go for it!

but I'd also like to recommend maybe running 1 hlg600, and add in some t5 supplemental light, like I stated above, you could even run kind led grow bars on all outsides of the hlg, that would give you that absolute best spectrum possible, and very good coverage! if money wasn't an issue my dream light set up for a 5x5 tent would be the hlg600 and maybe 4 4ft. kind led grow light mixed spectrum, all placed on the outskirts of the hlg!

Someone said they are the most inefficient lighting around. What if you could run 6500k cobs or boards to veg with?
they may not be the most efficient I won't argue that, but saying you can't use then is stupid, they are cheap, they work well, and during the winter the heat they produce saves my ass!

as for the cobs, I don't know as much about them, but if your good at building things, then I'd say you could probably build a much better light with cobs, and different spectrums than with the qb!

I'm pretty over t5 honestly. I like the growth they give, I use an 4 foot 8 bulb t5 for veg. However the bulbs only seem to last about 6 months and they are not cheap or easy to find locally.

I'm probably going to mount some QBs or strips in my T5 fixture to see how I like them before I switch my flower room over.

I couldn't find the dimensions on the 600 just now but the 550 is 26" x 15"x3" so size wise it would fit no problem. I can't remember the members name but I was just talking to another guy on here who just bought a HLG600 clone. He said it seems really well made, and appears to have legit diodes plus he paid under $400.

can u order off amazon? bc they are really cheap, matter of fact the cheapest bulb there is for growing, unless ur using cfl, which is just not worth it unless u run 100 bulbs!

and I've got bulbs that I have been using for years! haven't noticed them dimming! sunblaster makes single t5 fixtures, and you can get led replacement bulbs for them, I've been using the same ones for almost 4 years, without a single issue! I wouldn't blame t5s I would blame who ever your buying junk from! go to amazon look up sunblaster, and I get my led t5 replacement bulbs from my local hydro shop, all together it's not the cheapest route by far, but in 4 years I havnt had to change a single bulb or worry about anything! plus the led bulbs put out some impressve light, I made a 4 bulb fixture with them, and they put out more light than my 8bulb regular t5 fixture!

now with all that said cobs would still probably be better idk for sure, but cobs dam sure would cost almost twice as much to cover the same space!

heres a pic of my veg room, u can see the 2 different light fixtures I use! the sunblaster Nano is by far the best I've ever had! and the led t5 replacement bulbs are even better! I'd recommend them very highly, but it's your grow, choice is yours just giving ya my experience and advise!CM181212-002036008.jpg

not the best pics, but u get the idea! you can daisy chain up to 8 bulbs I think! I don't need any more than 4, plus u can move then and spread them out if growing wider girls, or you can put them closer together to over lap the footprint! also you can use multiple different bulbs and spectrums!CM190117-034122002.jpg CM190117-034135003.jpg

I have a 320 xl QB kit and let me just say I wish I’d have just bought another 315 (or 2 for the cost). It is bright af for sure, plants will grow under them. You can use all the science you want and prove a fixture puts out a bunch of light, but imo something significant is lacking from the boards. I have no clue what it is and don’t get me wrong you can grow with them and prob do quite well. But it’s different from hid and I’ve yet to see anywhere near the quality I get from cmh or even hps. IMO if I had to go all led it wouldn’t be QB which sucks cause for led the price point is better than most.

Thanks for the input. How close do you keep the light and how much canopy are to lighting or trying to light with it? I've seen pictures of some pretty impressive looking QB grown plants with decent weight claims around which was what even made me consider switching.

I don't know about the OP but I know my change won't be happening really soon. I'm gonna be spending lots of time making a decision.

Have you guys see this new Amare 8 bar light a member posted a thread reviewing the other day?

I tried it in a 3x3 tent at varying heights. I have also seen people do really well with them, and they do work. I am over here scratching my head about a 500 dollar light thinking it might as well be a paper weight for me. But I have cmh dialed in and I’m sure if I devoted some effort I could do better with the QB. For now I’m running the qb as supplemental beside an hps and de cmh but was thinking about putting add on Craigslist for someone to meet me at hydro store and buy me a 315 in trade for it. I know I’m getting the short end price wise but don’t care as long as get new cmh with warranty. I’m going all cmh as they pump out quality like nothing else I’ve used. Hps is great too but I get frostier buds with better bag appeal all at less watts per sq ft with cmh. And the switch is easy don’t have learn new style of light which is I’m sure why I don’t care for the QB. Extra cal mag, light meter to know when to turn light up and higher temps are all needed for led. It’s a learning curve that after seeing cmh results I’m not interested in. At least not until I’m convinced the quality is equal too or surpasses cmh.

I am keeping my eye on them too, I am not as happy with my de 630 as my reg 315, bulbs are expensive and haven’t lasted that well for me, but might have been situational. I also air cooled my 630 (acde) because the bulbs aren’t jacketed. You can run less watts per square ft with the 315 but only medium or small plants if you do large plants would stay with the 1k.

Also nanolux scares me, there 315s supposedly blow out Phillips bulbs reg and they not cheap and are the best bulb atm. I also hear their customer service is not that good. I think revolution micro makes great fixtures and their DE hps fixture runs on low freq square wave so I think it would run that same bulb no problem. If that’s a route you’re intersted in I’d email them (revolution micro) they are very helpful.

Most likely I'll move toward LED for the canopy coverage. Cmh would still be hooded centralized bulbs. What I want to do is take my same wattage used and better distribute it over my canopy. I don't really care about using less power or being more efficient.

Do you think the quality is the same as hps? You should just try a fixture first and see.
