54 in Va. I grew a bit back in the 80s, mostly gorilla grows. Then I joined the military and quit growing and smoking for 25 or so years. I figure now i’m retired and it’s legal why not start back up. I agree with many on here the weed is nothing like it used to be. We’d get a lot of Mexican red hair, and if we were lucky we’d score some skunk or humbolt indica.

So now the debate begins; was the weed better then or now?

My personal and highly subjective opinion is that the very best from back then can hold its head up with the best of today.

Lets put it this way in my mind , it was better back then
I would love some columbian redbud or columbian gold the bright yellow stuff with huge tiger striped seeds

In reality it was a different high and probably not really as good

I agree with the different high part; everybody and their dog is "breeding" and it's leading to a great muddying of the genetic waters. Back then, farmers in Central America and elsewhere had the time to let sativa dominant strains ripen fully, leading to a kind of crazy racy spacy high that no commercial facility can match with 6-8 week flowering schedules.

No debate.
Then.
For one simple reason - genetic diversity
Todays strains are bred into a corner.
I don't see anything like the variety I used to see.
I'm starting over. Got me a big ol collection of landraces and I'm rebreeding all my own favorites.
Probably be done when I'm about 432 years old.

Or lungs. COPD is real.

Seriously, quality was highly variable back in the day. Few had access to the best. Now anyone can walk into a dispensary and get top shelf- of they're willing to pay.

I mean, who the FUCK is paying $20 a gram?!
I used to get 1/4 oz bags for 40$.
A joint would get you so high you had to pull your car over and sit for a half hour.
And not because I was a new smoker - I was a daily smoker who smoked an average of 1-2 ounces a week.
And that was the regs I was getting.
The "Bomb" was 60-65$ /quarter and usually was only better smelling and prettier. Didn't get you higher.

I Completely agree, my cousin a I grew a plant once when we're about 20 that we named itchy bitch because when you smoked it you became so high that it made you itch and the euphoria lasted easily 4-5 hours. Don't know where one seed came from or what it was but I would love find it again. We did nothing special back then we planted in remote ares in the mountains and just went out nute bomb it about every two weeks and harvested about 1.2 pounds from it. Truly nature grow.

Back when bag seed was a lottery ticket.
Ah, the good old days...
I remember being so excited to harvest a beastly plant, dried it, cured it, smoked it and nearly died.....
It had Black Pepper terps.
Harshest smoke ever.
Good memories tho...
