help wiring thermostat

hi guys,

complete noob here. have been lurking here for a while now and have to say this place is truly a wealth of information.

was wondering if anyone could help. i have a tube heater installed and have bought a thermostat to control it but i have literally no idea how to wire it in with the heater.

the heater is just a simple plug in to mains job. the thermostat has 4 lines inside , N N 1 2.....not sure what wires need to from mains to thermostat and thermostat to heater.

any help would be much appreciated

hi, apologies if wasn't clear .this is pic of inside of thermostat. at the moment the heater cable just plugs straight into mains and is on timer . but i would like to make so thermostat controls it to only come on when necessary.

At first look, I would say 1 is your hot in and 2 is your hot out and the n's are both neutral. However, I am not 100%, can you flip it over so I know what it is we are working with?

thats a super strange thermostat. I would say look up the manual before you light it on fire somehow.
is 1 in and 2 out? with N and N being commons? I dont see any other 24v input anywhere.

not sure if this is what you mean bro but this is the front of thermostat

so would i go something like live from mains to 1. live from heater to 2....and neutrals to the N N ports? I really didn't realise i was so clueless with electrics!

that is exactly what i'm worried about doing!! :fire: :|

can't find any manual online and leaflet that came with it has no instructions

ok i've looked at it. You have 24v on/off wires from your fan? otherwise you are going to need a contactor to make this work.

this is just a 24v thermostatic switch, this doesnt have anything to do with cutting off your high voltage.

i'm not sure of voltage but the heater i want the thermostat to control is 240watts . reason i bought this thermostat was becuase from what i read in reviews was that it was very basic....and i only want to control 1 tube heater thought it sounded perfect.

obviously not basic enough for me!

get a volt meter and check for continuity. 20 to 50 bucks at any homedespot

tbh i don't think there is going to be an issue with voltage because the thermostat is apparently really designed to control room temp, so would be turning on and off a central heating system which i'm certain would be higher voltage than the small tube heater i want it to control. i just don't know where to stick the wires so to speak!

anyways thanks for your input guys.i have been running the heater all the time on lights out which has been working ok . just thought i may be able to conserve some electricity with a thermostat. no biggy

THe volt meter is to figure out what goes to what

gotya! tbh the thermostat was only a very cheap one to start with. gonna try and join an electrician forum(lol) see what i can find out there. if no joy will just leave the heater running constantly. it's only pushing temp to about 80f when lights off . so probably not too big a problem

From the wall ,live goes to 1 , neutral goes to N , earth doesnt go to the thrmostate.
to the heater 2 goes to the hot wire and you can tie your Neutral wire in with the other N or other Neutral or put it on the other N post. Doesnt matter.
YOur Earth from the wall goes to your earth of the heater

thank you very much! apologies for needing it explained as if to a 5 year old....but really don't want to make any mistakes with electrics.not something i'm great with.
