grow in soil...ur no pro yet..DWC is more for an experienced grower..soil u dont gotta do much but water it..trust me u will have no life if u grow DWC
Agreed, with soil u cant fail and its soooo much more forgiving. I'm soon starting 3rd crop and im still not sure about going hydro both bcuz i'm afraid to fuck up and the extra money on the system, spare parts, lets say your water pump breaks down and u live 5 hour drive back and forth from closest hydro store that sell one that fits and its like 3 days delivery over internet atleast. The entire crop dead unless u got a spare one. Quality PH/EC (http://hydroponics.eu/product.asp?Id=4791-Monitor+HZ+Instruments+pHEC%B0C+-mod.Combo) 145€, ofc theres cheaper one but this is just example of the most complete and best overall meter, allot more money spent on nutrients since its need allot more feeding then soil plants.

Its allot speaking against hydro + the benefits of higher yield and so on that is usually the only big reason for doing hydro over soil can be reversed into a gigantic failure.

Allso some/most say the finest weed u can get, quality and taste comes from weed grown in organic soil, its not like u have to brew your own nute tea in the kitchen. there is lots of allrdy finnished kits out there, gonna try ATAMIs 4 stage organic nutes next crop myself.

The only bad thing about soil is that u have to get rith of it after every harvest, do not re-use under any circumstances ^^

If you have never grown before then let me first tell you that it is not has difficult has some like to make it out to be.The first thing that you need to get in order is the grow area,if you are going to grow in a cellar then make sure that it is nice and tidy and clean of any dust.Pick one corner of the ceiler and then think about what lighting you are gonna use. There are only one type of lighting in my experiance and that is h.p.s you can get a couple of lights for a cheep enougth price nowdays. Most woman are has keen to do diy has men so it is just a matter of building a square framed structure.Go on you tube and look for george cerventis ultimate grow or down load it of bt junkie/piratebay.One you have watched this all will be easy understood.I think that he goes a little wild on the lighting though 2 600 hps would do a room of that size.If you are wanting to get a realy good deal on everything then have a look at www.kitbagshop.com this company sells everything that you need to start but you will have to lay a little cash out.If there are 3 of you for about 120pound each you will get a grow tent with everything that you need i mean everthing and i have the gear from this shop and there well worth the money[BARGIN].If you do get the stuff from this supplyer then all you will need to get is the seeds.Get femanised seeds there is no use messing around with regular till you get a few grows under your belt.Get your seeds from www.attitudeseeds.com i have found this to be the best supplyer of seeds and always the best quility.Go for a indica mix from greenhouse, greenhouse seeds are the ones that i would recomend to any new grower because they always germanate.Click onto attitudes news letter sign up it's safe don't worry and check it out at the begining of every month there is normaly a free seed offer.Attitude will also give you a free set of seeds with every order.I personaly would not go into a grow op with any one else friends fall out too much well mine do any how.Just do your re~search into germanation and watch all the good dvds out there.I would do a sea of green grow this will give you a great yeild but it will take abit of cloneing work.A few good downloads are sea of green vol;1.2.3 see more buds all can be got of btjunkie.Good luck and all the best keep it between your selfs and it could just be the perfect other flat or house mate..................tyke....................................................................................................................................

srry for the late reply lol ... i have never tried "scrog" myself and its hard to say if i should recoment it or not. its a fairly easy method as long as the screen it at the right hight. but for a first grow you should most definatly go with a soil grow instead of a dwc or apg. and where i live a 'cellar" is to keep things cold and gets very chilly during winter so are temperatures a problem for you? ... here is a link to my 1st indoor grow (i have outdoor experience), but i used some random schultz all natural potting mix soil in 2 gallon containers. all my nutrients are legit tho! lol next time i will go with a pro mix soil.... i couldnt be happier for a 1st indoor grow! cheak it out pics on both pages. still growing bigger lol https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/295069-1st-grow-cfl-400watt-hps.html btw, love ur quote ;) lol

Good to hear you were gonna try a shwag weed houseplant while you decide on methods.
I just went through the thoughts and selection choices myself a couple months back. In case it helps I'll just put up a couple of my thoughts when I was going to do it...

Soil - easy, predictable, messy to spill (and I have spilled a bunch)
DWC - if you screw up once you could lose all your plants, could stunt them and not know it (also, just watched a grow log for a month for a DWC to fail)
LST - something i tried with one plant, turned out to be female and is going to be a good yeild from it (will LST from now on)
SCROG/SOG - Good with clones or feminized seeds, but if you might have a male, too hard to remove once entwined in the screen.

I know theres lots of positives, but I wasn't thinking positives, I was thinking how can I screw this up.

DWC -SCROG best as far as yield. And it is not as hard as everyone makes it out to be trust me. Just make sure there are not any light leaks in your bucket, PH is between 5.5 and 6.0, and use the lucas formula. Oh of course enough oxygem from your air pump and air stones.

2x1000w will prob. become a heat issue that u think u can fix with some easy solution spending money on that and ending up having to go all out on top of that and in worst case scenarion having to make 8 inch holes through the entire house to vent out the heat depending on your basement/house layout.

Hey Guys (and Girls aka Swede lol) Hope your Grows are going great !!!!

I wanted to check something with you all, inbetween classes I've been reading more and more and stupidly its just dawned on me we need a Veg room to go with our grow room if we want to grow back to back, which we do ! From what I understand it takes approx a month from seed to a really small plant, then another month to grow it until the sex shows, then a third month of flowering - now I know its not written in stone but its alot of work so im just using those estimates to get my head around the idea...

So starting from seeds the first grow will be 3 months till harvest, but the SECOND will take 2 months because I'll be starting from cuttings/clones instead of seeds. Is that approx correct ? And to reduce the second grow to 2 months we need to start with clones instead of seeds ? If so that means we need to have quite a few cuttings/clones ready to go under the lights. What a headache !!! lol. now im planning out a small vegging room, inside our basement, and once I do the plan on paper will be complete. SO WHAT KIND OF LIGHTS DO I NEED FOR THE VEG ROOM ?? I've read some people use normal lights, while others use MH or HPS. Am I right in assuming that the more powerful the light is the quicker/stronger the clone will grow ? And am I right in assuming that it should take a minimum of a month till the clone is a foot tall, then a second month to flower it (approx). I've read so much that im not sure which light to go for, so I'd like your personal opinions please, what do YOU guys use in your veg rooms ?

I am using 400w hps but you can get away with anything in Veg, sounds you want the fastest possible and if so go with larger lights. You can go with T5 lighting though but I use the 400w and veg under them for 3-4 weeks (clones) then move under 1600w hps in flower room

Hey Swede, don't quote me, my plans are changing the more I learn/ask questions.

the 2 x 1000 idea sounds like overkill for now. More like 1 x 600 HPS, and 16 plants underneath. If we feel confident we can always duplicate that, but I think one light is plenty to get used to before we buy more then we can handle. Besides, it looks like I'll need the 2nd light for the veg room :0( and they aren't cheap ! Do you think 16 Clones under one HPS is overkill, or can I fit more clones under there ? that would be better, so I can take loads of clones and have a choice of the best 16 to move under the main grow room light. Still can't believe I forgot to factor in a veg room lol.....

Super2200 - WOW, 1600W HPS ???

Ok, thats what I thought, we need to buy a second light... pls tell me if this makes sense to you:

We get some seeds and grow them in the veg room under 600w lights (approx a month)
Once they are big enough, we can start nutes and grow them till they show sex (approx a month)
Once they show sex we switch the lighting cycle and flower them (approx a month)

thats 3 months approx.

then just before we flower the plants, we take clones and grow them in the veg room (approx a month)
after growing them for approx a month, they should be ready to flower (apporx a month)

thats 2 months approx.

So basically, just before I flower my main plants, I cut clones and grow them in the veg room, and then when the main plants are ready to be harvested a month later, the clones should be ready to replace them under the main lights ? Does that make sense ? So every single month we take new clones and grow them, and then every two months we're ready to harvest ? Is that approx right ? lol, Im 100% sure im making this sound way simpler then it is, but for a newbee and complete novice, is that a fairly acurate description of the growing process ? thanks !

If you are thinking about cloning then you definately need a good veg area, because if you are cloning, you will need to keep a Mother plant or 2. So you will need a tall area for the mother, and a wide area to raise your clones or seedlings.

Sounds like your thinking along the right lines. You could do a veg area with flourescents and CFL's if you want to, just as long as the color temperature is in the 5500-6500k range and the lights are on either 24/0 or 18/6.

Hey Gidget, thanks for the input :0) as you can see I've been trying to do my homework, its soooooo much info.

the mother plant is always kept in "veg" so I can constantly take cuttings/clones ? Guess it makes more sense then constantly taking them from the plants im about to flower. Ideally I'd go for some low wattage lights to keep the bills down and reduce the overall cost of buying this stuff! Maybe having a powerful light like a 600w in the veg room isn't necessary, if I keep mothers I won't be pressed for time growing clones ready for harvest, I'll always have a bunch ready to go under the big lights. Ok, so how does this sound for a hypothetical plan.... Grow a bunch of plants from seeds/remove the males once they sex/also remove 2 best females to keep in the veg room as mothers... hope that makes sense !! You make a good point about the lights, because if im keeping them on constantly in the veg room it definitely makes sense to use low watt lights and reduce heat AND cost. Good thinking batman !

Once I realized I'd need a veg room I was worried about venting it, because I want to completely seal the basement and do a sealed grow using A/C to cool it. Thought I might need a second A/C unit but if the lights in the veg room are low watt I can use a decent sized grow tent for my clones/mothers and use a fan to bring in cool air from the rest of the room.... plus, the fan will vent in the Co2 in the air as well. hope this is making sense so far ! Im hoping to start all of this once term breaks for summer....

It's tons of info! And it's all different depending on soil/medium and lighting type (flour,Cfl,MH,HPS,LED,etc) then there's the possibility of using lighting combinations. There's never a completely right or wrong way.

I'm getting close to the end of my first grow, and I've started some more from seed to attempt a perpetual. Mine's small by comparison to what your planning, but if I can answer any questions I'll definately try to help you out.

I started the new seeds approx 2 weeks into flowering, and am planning to LST them while they are in veg until the ones I have flowering now are done. Theres tons of pictures in my journal in my signature if you want to check them out. (Don't know if thats the right time to plant, just thats when I did it and am working on it to see how its going to work for me):blsmoke:

well done on your first grow hun ! :0) hopefully I'll be on here updating everybody on my first grow too... & sooner rather then later. I've definitely been elected "head gardner" of the household, lol, which is just as well really theres nothing worse then having too many chefs in the kitchen - we'll split the costs and labour but planning out the grow and researching it is my responsibility. Its all good, at least I get first choice on the biggest buds!

& I'll def check out your grow too, I've been meaning to comment on other peoples grows I've seen on my thread. Its nice to actually SEE people growing, it gives newbees like me confidence and hope. But im getting there, and like you said there are many ways to grow :0) btw from what i've read your LST experiment will really be worth the time and effort !!! soooooo many ways to grow. but once I've completely thought out my master plan I'll run it by you guys. thanks again and good luck with your grows Gidget !

catch ya later :0)
