Where I live, they don't have anything better to do, they roam around over cornfields looking for weed, my tax dollars hard at work. :furious:

It really depends on where you live and what the communities stance is on marijuana. My city recriminalized minor possession, 4th degree misdemeanor.
Mr. Marks has very valid points. They absolutely can see you with flir. And it makes a huge difference where you live. As for them needing a warrant: In 1989 I had bought a 150hps from a mail order company. The DEA did "Operation Green Merchant" UPS gave up shipping info to the feds. My little 150 (not in use due to room mate moving out) was not enough for the feds, but the little midwest suburb pigs used this info to enter my house while I was at work. My new roomate drove by to see all the lights on and a house full of swine. The next day (Thanksgiving) They showed up, still no warrant, arrested me and I gave consent to search (I was 19 and dumb). They wanted me to narc on somebody (of course not) and after waiting a few months for me to "think about it" they show up at my work and I sign a sig bond, get diversion and move to the land of the free. So do they really need a warant...They said my "door blew open and they were investigating burglaries in the neighborhood. T.V. and VCR right inside door, they went through my closets!!!!! f-in pigs!

As for the helicopters flying over having better things to do, someplaces, sometimes yes. However when I called and complained about the sherrifs helicopter taking off full trottle over my neighborhood (the other 3 directions are not residential) I was told they are flying daily pulling plants out of the avocado groves grown by the migrants who work the avocados. They told me I could probably even see a guy with long hair in the passenger seat, who I was told is their drug agent. This is in SoCal. So if you live in a red state....

But for real, if you are not being greedy and trying to make lots of money off herb you probably have no worries...except for the bitch girlfriend.

And if you are a little greedy find a severly ill cancer patient(s) and donate half your crop. Karma!
:peace:

If the sympathy was for me, thanks but no worries, that was almost 20 years ago. I can now grow legally (we used to dream of this day!), but still don't want to advertise, around here it is hard to teach old pigs new tricks. Conservatives (my county is very) cry about less federal gov, unless it is for war (on drugs/real freedom/etc.)

Hempcrete! What a stupid policy Hemp prohibition is in the U.S..:bigjoint:

Thanks Hayduke, sorry about the luck years ago, i never get anything mail ordered, or give my address to anyone, i'm not using a computer to do this all. A disposable blackberry :bigjoint:

I don't trust my government at all, if you want to listen to some cool shit go to infowars. Alex Jones is a badass.

Yeah, operation head hunter targeted headshops, also operation pipedream. When they decided to make it illegal to ship waterpipes across state lines, and arrested Jerome Baker and Tommy Chong.

The reason I made this post is beacuse there has been a few busts in my area that were supposedly realted to heat signatures. The statment was made that the choppers cost a forutne to put in the air? That is all more reason why they will investigate suspious heat signatures, to have something to show for all those tax dollers being spent. I agree that unless a person is growing large scale or selling from their grow site they most likely have little to worry about but that doesnt mean that the authorities are not aware of what is going on. At any time a infared heat scan could be used as probable cause to aquire a search warrant. I am just a very cautious person and I do not trust the man, therefore I want to take every possible precation. Thanks for all the great posts and information hope this helps so other paranoid grower out there.

Snap!

I thought of another precaution!

DON'T put black plastic over your windows, it's a dead giveaway.

Instead, hang blinds and put plastic behind it, cops know what plastic covered windows mean.

You should put that in your sticky mane.

Didn't know that, I got a '99 JBDesigns bong. I am about to mail order another light (19 years later, UPS shipping dammit) but I got the Governator on my side! and have a 215 card, so probably ok. Plus $99 for a 400w HPS is too tempting.

Good tip on the windows! I have cardboard and it looks bad. think I will fix this soon.

Man, you really should've learned your lesson the first time, federal law doesn't recognize 215, at least ship it to a buddies house, and definately fix the cardboard :bigjoint:

The feds didn't want me the first time! The local police are the problem for the guy growing headstash, and in California even without 215 possession of under an ounce is barely even a crime. Literally it is a bigger fine to drive in a carpool lane with one person. The feds are not even interested in busting patients in the few raids of clinics. I think it was the San Bernardino county prosecutor that said the 215 card is like Jedi powers, you cant fuck with peoples health. I will not have broken any federal laws by making a purchase of a light. I am breaking no laws in my state. I am growing only for personal medical use. The Nazi tactics started by John Ashcroft and the DOJ with the (Illegal!) support of county sheriffs will end with the next administration. The times are absolutely changing. With everything, as California goes, so goes the nation. But thanks for the concern. I really think that paranoia keeps you out of trouble, but sometimes it is just paranoia. But if I am crazy please address it, cuz I may be just stupid. The window is a frosted bathroom window and you kinda had to look hard to notice but I fixed it today. Panda film white side out but not touching the frosted glass. Looks normal.

I've seen infared pics of a warehouse style basement grow.

It was a defined white rectangle(hood), and visable tubes going from rectangle to rectangle, they were red to orange.

No matter what, that hot air can be seen.

You could also see the water heater and the cold air in the central air system.

Trust me, the technology is there, you think they won't use it?

The propaganda I hear is that we're terrorists, that tells me yes, they will.
That Patriot Act is a mother fucker. Whats worse is that they are including drugs as a "threat to national security", and therefore we are "terrorists". If one is arrested under Patriot, that person becomes an enemy combatant with NO RIGHTS whatsoever. This is a worse case scenario right now, but they didn't go to war with "terror" (How vague is that?) and enact this legislation without the intent to use it to further thier own agendas.

I would highly doubt pot plants give off a different IR sig, or that they would fly around looking for warm plants, but I don't kno for sure.
They don't detect outdoor grows with FLIR. I think born2killspam can back this up. Plants reflect and absorb light differently. They get a "signature" of reflected light from the prevailing native foliage, and anything that shows up differently gets investigated. Cannabis reflects light in a different manner, and has it's own unique signature, as do other plants.

We need a sticky somewhere that has the reality of FLIR, and the myths surrounding it. I'd really like to know the statisics of how many small indoor growers have been busted as the result of using FLIR. I'm sure it's happened, but it's a rare occurrance.

To the dude that thinks they can't tell if he's sleeping in his attic, think again. There are agencies that CAN peer into your home, don't think they can't. Fortunatly, those agencies aren't looking for pot growers. It's not just IR we gotta worry about. The resolution isn't good enough to make porn, but they can be WAAYY more invasive of your privacy than they'll admit. Anyone see Patriot Games? They were able to watch a hit squad kill some terrorists via satellite. That they CAN do.

But the whole thing boils down to Dont tell anyone. You gotta pop up on thier radar for them to start looking at you in the first place. If that happens, and they get real interested in you, you're fucked. They aint gonna find you with a random FLIR flyover. If they did, we'd hear of A WHOLE LOT MORE folks getting caught.

Not now, my problems were 19 years ago in the midwest. Things have not changed much there. No problems now, legal in CA. But still... And yes they can look in you house with satellite, but probably don't. The previous guy saying that Cannabis give off it's own reflected spectrum. This is also true, again, for all plants, and Cannabis is very different from native vegetation. Landscape ecologists use this regularly to make vegetation maps to study species and their interaction in their habitat, as well as identifying areas for invasive species control/eradication. This is done with flyovers and still photography as well as landSat maps available from USGS. I played with this in a grad school Landscape Ecology class and applied it to studying the habitat of the threatened Steven's kangaroo rat. The resolution is very good with the ability to distinguish spectral variances to the pixel level. But this is all unnecessary because a cared for plant outdoors stands out like a big Cannabis plant from the air real good.

A revolutionary new security product, Block-IR is made from NASA developed Infra-Red blocking technology. Completely line any space with Block-IR for a 97% reduction in thermal imaging reduction. Don't be fooled by thin, cheap imitations that don't provide complete protection. This is the real deal. Accept nothing
