This is the journal in wich I will post updates from seedling to harvest, I will come across problems on the way as this is my first time growing not only marijuana but a plant in general, I hope you can help me solve them. I have had my fair amount of reading before starting and i feel ready for this. I have never smoked weed before as it is impossible to find contacts, so i decided to grow my own. I make this first post when my babies are 26 days old since sprouting so i'll write down what i can remember about days before now.

Strain: El Niño, 4 plants

Day 11
Usual temperature 18.5C (probably more directly under the light when fan isn't running)
Usual humidity 50%
Fan is running 12h/24

Seedling is stretching, added a third part to my tower to bring them closer to light source http://puu.sh/1sV0L http://puu.sh/1sUZx

Day 25

I see that one plant out of the four is clearly starting to stand out, 3 others grow slower, smaller and or not symetrical.

Day 26

Installed proper lighting setup. 4x 40W color temperature 6500K, Hopefully less light will be lost with this. Will set timer to rest 4:30h per night. Still havent got an electronic Ph Meter, got to trust a pool Ph tester wich is really hard to read and doesn't go lower than 6.3, it will show the same color for 6.3 and 2 so I've got to find something better. Have been watering with nutrients past 2 watering, will not add nutrients this time.

My camera auto adjust brightness so don't get an idea based on what is shown here.

day 29

here's pictures, one is looking pretty disformed, not going to trash it since i only have 4 plants.

Got myself a electronic pH meter. Went to test it, gives a pH of -2, dafuk. Reads manual, must be calibrated into solutions that are sold separately... >_>

LOL
My dad used to tell me, 'when all else fails, read the directions.'
Looking back, that almost always worked for me.

Add some more soil, and bury part of those stretchy stems, then move your light closer.
Also I think you mentioned fan only runs 12 hrs?
Why not all the time?
Gently blowing on them will help thicken and strengthen the main stems.

not 24/24 because not having a fan running help building some kind of heat in there, the room's temperature is always around 65.
Burry up to the embryonic leaves?

Is the generally low temperature and amount of light the reason for the overall slow growth?

If lighting and heat is a problem, what would you recommend me to do? Something that doesn't mean throwing away this light setup, more like upgrading would be prefferable.

I'm also thinking about adding 2 cfl lights in the center

Day 33

Got the cfls closer.

The termometer directly under the light indicate 75

Not too close? If i put my had at the distance, it's warm, not hot.

Also, flashback, this is what my lighting used to be before i started upgrading.

dude i had a very similar problem, im on my first grow now and learning lots. i dont think your lights are the issue or ever were, at this point. the height of ur lights above the plants are great and ur plants are nice and green ( mine were fucked and smaller than yours at like day 25 - check out my thread super mini plants ) i got advice to transplant cause i was most likely using not good soil for my plants ( i transplanted and within days they started taking off huge ) ur soil may be the issue .. also it looks like there is no perlite in there what so ever? im not the expert on this one but i think that may be a big issue, and also what are you feeding? i havent really fed any nutes till i started flowering and im almost on day 60 all together. check out my thread dude it might help ya out

I'm using a Miracle Grow soil, it has perlite in it. I'm almost 100% certain that the reason for the slow growth was because of a lack of light. Actually I think they are starting to speed-up the growing. Will take more pictures in 3 days, hopefully the cfls will have made a noticable difference.

u could run seedlings under a regular day time lamp and have them sprout, they dont need much light at all - but the more light u have the better, and the closer depending on what u use the better (cfls can almost touch). i found mine today touching the leaves and no burns ( i was at work for 8 hours too) but yea dont know much about the miracle grow but i suggested gettin some better than that soil ( i use promix its cheap) and its good + u can usualy add whatever nutes u want to it. but good luck hopefully the more lighting will do the trick , if not look in to transplanting those suckers . im sure there root system is very good for 25 days, mine had almost the whole bottom of the dirt covered.
