Greenhouse vs Raised Bed vs Large Hole

Well I picked up the Kelp meal a honey doo came up will have to get the clones tomorrow. Overall the soil is looking and smelling good when I turned it today. The clones that I have All look great and the inside light schedule is now 5:30am till 9:00 pm the outside should match up real soon I may shave another 30 mintues off the night to speed up process by a week. That way all Plants will be out by Mothers day for sure. dirrtyd

Okay after reviewing the lighting schedule. I will have to have the morning lights on time at 6:00 am and the evening lights out time at 8:30. The OGkush/bluberry is looking great cant wait to start hardening her off in the greenhouse. Then she will go to a raised bed until chopped in October. dirrtyd

Well the greenhouse is getting prepped for its new inhabitants. The hole is dug right in the middle of the greenhouse. I'm hoping the plant will take off and fill it all up. Will get pictures of this all very soon. Will start hardening off some seedlings this week for sure. Just dont want to put them out early looking like 4/20 for seedlings clones next month. Questions concerns welcome. dirrtyd

Well glad I let the JTR go a week longer found a female today pistils looking good. Still had to dispose of two males probably should have kept one oh well. Still have some beans that will be a midsummer winter breeding project. Will definitely keep some clones from the female JTR for sure. Pics to come of the three female stars from seed. This is going to be a good year the clones are looking good and taking off. dirrtyd

Well had a little rain today in the Bay. Will take pics this afternoon for sure. Getting ready to start giving the seedlings a bit of sunshine daily getting ready for there may transplant. dirrtyd

Looking good over there....
Busy over here too. I amended the soil and turned it over twice last week with a pitch fork. Built 6 - 3'x3'x12" raised beds with cages built to the bottom to keep them gophers/moles out! I have 12 girls ready for the garden, but may only put 8 out this year. Busy times now, should be a great year, everything on schedule....knock on wood!

Hey dirrtyd, Good to see other bay area growers on here.
I built a greenhouse in my yard last spring had a nice grow last year and grew through the winter. Gotta love them colors. Just finishing spring harvest now. Anyway raised bed vs in the ground caught my eye. I used seven gallon smart pots last year and grew trees. Largest plant 2.7 lbs average about 1 lb. so I think you are going to like your raised bed, you gonna screen it?

Tmb thanks for stopping by. Yes it is almost time got alot of thing going on getting ready to build the raised beds this should be fun. I have the perfect spot think I'm going to run veggies in one this year and reuse next year. All the soil has been cooked for the holes and the greenhouse. The beds I may do something special we will see stay tune. Oh the veggie garden is looking up also this year. dirrtyd

Yeah the weather is different depending on where you live here. I had some lbers last year also so this year going with the same strains and a couple new ones. Picked up a couple of more dream queen clones so the line up is coming together nicely. dirrtyd

Still waiting on the chemjack beans to do there thing in the soil. The pineapple punch have not raised there pretty little heads yet either so figuring in the next day or two I should see bean breaking and cotlydons. dirrtyd

Well went into the veggie garden today and transplanted some Collards and some Bak Choy. The dog chewed a couple plants hope I can save them. Well season is looking good May 9th the gurls will go in the ground. dirrtyd

So I started on the raised bed today should have it done and pics up tomorrow. I'm basically going to fill it with the dirt that comes out of the holes and amend the raised bed. The holes will be back filled with freshly cooked supersoil. The bed already has alot of soil life coming from the holes I see worms galore. comments suggestions welcome the raised bed is 4ft by 4ft. dirrtyd

Ive been learning a lot by just reading. Really appreciate all of the knowledge. As for your soil I'm assuming that it's not ready to go immediately after mixing. How long do you "cook" your soil before you use it??

I let it cook a minimum of a month then I begin to use it. I will be experimenting later this year with a two week mix. Some of the ingredients I'm using now will be eliminated and replaced with a different item or source. Thanks for coming by and reading. dirrtyd

Okay as promised the pics of the raised bed still have to fill with soil but I have time for that. Just wanted to get the pics out and let everyone see what it looks like. All comments welcome bought the raised bed at HD enjoy. dirrtyd

The 4 x 4 cedar at HD? Hehe killer deal at 35 bucks. I've read somewhere that the plant size is definitely affected by the amount of room the roots have to grow. So in this case would the plant be limited by the lack of depth in the ground or do you suspect that the roots will just grow laterally and be fine. Very curious to see how the raised bed will stand up side by side to your plants in the holes.

Well I figure that the roots will spread out across the bed. When I bought them it was like November so I got them for twenty a piece I bought four. I will be a applying some secret sauce to the roots when I transplant all plants. Which should help the roots develop. I will also be watering the outer edge so the roots will have to search for the water. For the first two months outdoors I will water morning and night. Then when needed according to the moisture meter. This is the technique I used last year it worked great I copied this from someone here just they do it the whole season.Happy Growing dirrtyd

Well the raised bed is filled for the most part the only remaining work is to load dirt from the holes. The total amount of dirt to fill the raised bed is 12 cu feet. This should be a very good bed for this year and the future will be buying more parts in the winter. I see HD has tripled the price. The vegetable garden is looking good I see onions,carrots, and spinach pushing through the ground. comments and questions welcome. dirrtyd
