Fox Farm Happy Frog and Ocean Forest ratio

Actually, FFOF is notorious for being a hot supersoil. People burn pretty often, particularly planting seedlings in it undiluted, I believe. Mixed with Happy Frog should make it a bit easier, though. I prefer soilless organic mediums to actual soil, personally.
Is FFOF “hot” or are people adding nutrients to soon making it hot?

does It start off hot or does it turn itself hot as it breaks down. Some people add lime with better success. Given the lime takes a bit to breakdown, could be good timing in balancing out the soil (long term).

I used Happy Frog soil and got white flies which I can only trace back to the Happy Frog soil. It wasn't a big deal because white flies are harmless and mostly like buzzing around the lights. Hanging a couple of sticky ribbons had them all sticking to it within 24 hours.
Plant some basil. Not only will it take care of the flies, it’ll boost plant production.

If you notice the gnat attractors comments the common theme is that the gnats came 3 weeks later not right away.

This fact alone precludes the bugs coming from the soil. The Grow attracted them.
My FF/HF soil has been primed for about a week now with perlite, azomite, worm/bat-dope, dash of dolomite pellets, azos and mykos. It’ll sit for another 3 weeks. Should there be a problem, hopefully i’ll see signs before transplanting. To avoid the debate wether FF is too hot or not for seedlings, I went with Light Warrior.

Ok. But the only thing hot about ocean forest is clumps of bat guano. And powdered lime is best. So honestly not sure how it will go. I don’t think it needs added lime either. It always tests to 6.5 ph for me as is.

I would like to see the results.

I 100% agree with your take on OF and fungus gnats.

70/5

It is designed to be used right out of the bag, no amendment needed, and it isn’t hot, lol. I add perlite to it, too, but it is a “plug and play” product and it works well.

Anecdotally, I did not do well with Roots 707...

...but I don’t blame the product.

Thanks for te heads up on bat guano.

Fortunately, I have only added a few tablespoons (8-10) to eight bags of Ocean Forest and Happy Frog. That goes for the dolomite pellets as well. My hope is to have the pellets breakdown slowly and lightly since most of my issues have been later in the grow. Not only that, my planter soil is at a 6. Eventually i’ll Be mixing the old soil in an attempt to start amending my clay sandy shite ground soil.

Will post pics of the progress shortly. Just transplanted out of light warrior into happy frog with the ocean forest happy frog mix on the bottom. They’ll sit there for a few weeks before being potted.

IMO it will only be too hot if u are overwatering

Watering has always been a challenge when planting in the ground. Thanks for your thoughts on the matter. FF has worked great in the past without any additions... just looking to give it a bump. I may replace a bit of the topsoil and leave a Little if the amended mixture in the bottom.

Appreciate the info brother.

On my next run I’m gonna try to top dress with build a soils flowering top dress to see if it will work I usually use Greenleaf Nutrients MEGACROP all the way through and the girls love it but I’m always trying new things to see if I can up my final outcome... I supposed to have a package coming from a buddy of some crosses he made if they don’t show I’m gonna run some auto to knockout before my sons b-day since I always have visitors come through and than I’ll be up and running again but I figure with the grow I’m bout to finish and the next run should hold me off for the rest of the year , I’m figuring about 20-24 jars and I should be good that’s what I went through in a year ....

Decided to start a few more seeds last week for a different mixture of FFOF/FFHF/FFLW

Top Mix
50/50 Light Warrior/Ocean Forest
(no amendments)

Bottom Mix
70/30 Ocean Forest/Happy Frog
(Worm castings added)

- Seeds were soaked in Azos Tuesday night

- Wednesday morning seeds were put in paper towels/ziplock and placed in dark warm place(85 degrees).

- Friday evening seeds had germinated with a 2 inch main root and a root-ball halfway up.

- Friday night they were placed in top soil mixture.

- Saturday Morning both seeds surfaced(5 days).

- Sunday night left outside

-Monday morning... see below.

I am using a 50 / 50 mix for the first time. Here is a shot of my girls 38 days from Germ, they just got there first dose of nutes 2 days agoView attachment 2597344 No added perlite, this mix holds water for a while. When I transplant for flower into there 5gal Air pots they will dry out ALOT faster so this mix will work good for me. But in a regular pot I would add some perlite in for a little drainage.
