if its fox farms its fine.. just stick with it if you already have it! might as well save where you can..

as small as those are i wouldnt have lollipopped them personally.. its fine that you did.. but no need to with them being that short...

you are fine when you lollipopped also.. its ok to do it within the first week of switching to 12/12.. its ideal to do it a week before switching to 12/12 tho.. so the plant has time to heal up..

i think i will do a grow and smoke report as soon as they finish mid january, here is a link to this guy who has some plants with big buds on the main stem only i asked him how he got them like that and he was real vague. maybe you can take a look at his plants and give me a better idea of how he got his plants like that go to page 44 on his thread he has some nice pics thanks simpson, www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/222941-raidermans-og-kush-og-kush-27.html

SimpsonSampson.... i'm thinking of purchasing a HydroFarm radiant ac 400 w hps/mh reflector. i'm just wondering what the coverage area of a 400 watt hps bulb is, as far as the footage that would be covered with primary light. 5' x 5' ? i'm going to build my own " grow tent" setup and would like to use the 400 watt hps. also, how many plants would you suggest i put under 1 400 watt hps? thanks . :)

Hey, y ou definitely seem to know a lot so i thought i would ask you. A lot of people on here are a bit aloof. I am setting up my second room. First one i used a huge 9 and a half foot by 9 and half ft tent, have some plants vegging right now, couple weeks till i flower, i used soil (foxfarm ) on those and they are under a veg hilux 600 watt grow bulb. Right now I have 1 600 watt and 2 1000 watt lights, no digital ballasts as yet. I want to do hydroponics for the next room and there is no need to use a tent. I just used one for the first room to be safe but this other room is smaller. So I am thinking basically i have 18 babies growing right now, and i have another 40 that are just waiting to root a bit that were just cut off a great mother plant from my friend who is an expert. Basically what i am trying to get around to asking is, my friend said i should get 5 more 600 watt luminex sets with the ballasts, cords etc and he gave me a list of everything to use to set up the hydro. I am wondering how i would set up my systems in both the tent and the other room that will be hydro with the lighting i have. say 6 600 watt lights 2 or 3 1000 watt lights, and 18 babies that are planted and another 40 that will be planted. How would you set those up in two rooms, one that will be hydro and the 18 are in soil pots in tent right now. I hope that makes sense. I am just trying to figure out what lights to put where once my 18 are ready to flower and my 40 are ready to plant. My other room is not as big so i was gonna get two 4 x 8 trays ...will 40 fit in that? Sorry for the babbling, i am not the best at explaining things. Would love a reply if you havee the time to read my novel!

super cropping is very easy.. ill do the best i can to explain it...

1) pick a spot on the main, or any side branch for that matter, that you want to super crop at... know that wherever you choose, all the growth below that point will start to push up and out... so you want to do it more towards the branch ends... you can do multiple spots on the plant at the same time.. the key is to try to keep them all level to keep the canopy level... it doesnt really matter how close to the node you are.. i prefer to do it somewhere in the middle of any two given nodes..

2) with your pointer finger and thumb gently squeeze the stem until you feel it give.... dont pinch.. you dont want to damage or sever the stem... your basically just softening the stem... the giving will almost feel as tho something popped... or it will just give easily... you can use some force.. sometimes the stems are tough to squeeze.. but like i said.. dont sever it...

3) once you are done squeezing turn your hands 90 degrees from the original posistion and squeeze again... again this is to soften the spot the rest of the way..

once the stem has been pinched both ways it should easily lay over to the side... waa laa you have super cropped..

over the next 3 to 5 days here is what to expect... the spots where you super cropped will begin to upright themselves.. sometimes it happens quicker than other times.. dont worry, as long as you didnt actually pinch through the stem it will upright and be fine... all the growth below that point will start pushing upwards and outwards.. this means all the lower growth that usually is wasted is now up near the light and producing buds.... at least the tops of the lower branches are... plus it also fattens up the bush and the stems... you'll notice where you super crop at, after its all uprighted again, the spot where you actually did the pinching will turn into a little knot... thats normal.. dont worry.. also... sometimes when you bend the stem/branch over you can get some vertical breaks... this is ok.. as long as the breaks run up and down, and not horizontally, everything will be ok.. so if it does happen, dont stress..

you can basically do this as much as you want, and as soon as the plant has uprighted itself... i think i end up doing it at least 1 once a week during veg myself.. if you start now it will help for sure...

as far as strains.. well to be honest i cant remember what set up you had right now to tell ya... ill check back and let ya know in a while tho...

**edit** i checked.. you should try gigabud out... or critical mass... gigabud is cheaper.. matanuska tundra would be great... skunk.. chronic.. norther lights.. big bud... these would all be good.. if you can afford to buy them, or want to breed your own, auto flowers would work great as well...

i think i will do a grow and smoke report as soon as they finish mid january, here is a link to this guy who has some plants with big buds on the main stem only i asked him how he got them like that and he was real vague. maybe you can take a look at his plants and give me a better idea of how he got his plants like that go to page 44 on his thread he has some nice pics thanks simpson, www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/222941-raidermans-og-kush-og-kush-27.html
ill check it out and let you know....

**edit** checked on it... basically there are 3 possibilities.. all of which i think he does...

1) he has large clones go straight into 12/12... this causes few side branches to develope.. making 1 large cola only
2) he does seeds from 12/12... same thing as clones straight to 12/12.. but clones can be mature.. while 12/12 seeds will never reach their full potential since they dont have time to mature..
3) he has short vegged plants that keeps under 3 ft..

the 3ft thing is the key.. he uses 1000w lamps... this will penetrate a canopy about 3 ft... so a 3 ft tall (or under) plant under a 1000w lamp will flower almost completely from top to bottom... this is why his plants are like that...

SimpsonSampson.... i'm thinking of purchasing a HydroFarm radiant ac 400 w hps/mh reflector. i'm just wondering what the coverage area of a 400 watt hps bulb is, as far as the footage that would be covered with primary light. 5' x 5' ? i'm going to build my own " grow tent" setup and would like to use the 400 watt hps. also, how many plants would you suggest i put under 1 400 watt hps? thanks . :)
a 400w lamp would be good for about a 3x3 to 4x4 area... not much more than that... if you plan on having plants that are over 18" tall you'll want, or at least it would be ideal, to get a larger light.. like a 600w.. 400w's will only give you about 12 to 18 inches of good penetration into a canopy.. so the bottoms and energy are wasted at points below that...

i'd say keep around 6 to 8 - 18" or less plants.. if you find you have more room in the end to add another plant later go for it.. but thats a good manageable number for that light..

alright.. ill see if i can help ya...

so you'll have 6 x 600s.. and lets say 3 x 1000s....

no since you are planning on using flood trays, you will probably be sticking to smaller plants, probably clones that are straight to 12/12, right?? well.. ill assume that also... based on those things here is what i'd recommend...

use 1 x 600w lamp over each 4x4 section of flood trays... so thats 2 per tray.. or 4 total... you should more than easily fit 40 girls on there.. maybe more possibly.. but a 600w lamp for every 4x4 space will give you plenty of light...

i would set up the other lamps up in the other room.. i think if i were to hang 3 x 1000s and the remaining 2 x 600s i would do this... i'd place the 2 x 600s in a line and the 3 x 1000s in a line.. but have them on opposite axis's... basically have the 1000s run down the middle of the room with the 600's (ideally using a bat wing style reflector to spread light around more) on either side of the center 1000w lamp... with all the lights spaced as equally as possible... if you can control temps enough to use all batwing reflectors (which would take some definitely exhaust work) you'll see the best results since light will be spread more.. but even if they are all in air cooled relfectors youll get great results.. but you may have to rotate plants to get them under the lamps footprints...

Another question.

I want to clone 2 plants, because the rest were all male. I'm 4 weeks into flowering. Is this reasonable?

Can I keep the clones at 12/12, or would it be better to go to 24 hrs for a few weeks and then reflower?

I have only 1 room, how will changing the photoperiod affect the momma?

you can take clones during flowering.. but it will take a while longer to revert them back to veg so they root..

you need to put them under 24/0 lighting until they root.. once they have roots they will be ready to flower again...

if you do this tho it will revert the entire plant (if you only have 1 room).. you may be better off waiting and getting some fem'd seeds... or putting the clones in another area until the moms get done.. shop light floros work fine for clones...

i used the trial pack for a grow myself.. it works great... should get a few plants through pretty much start to finish... hopefully you get great results too!

thanks for taking the time to show us newbies wussup
your welcome.. glad to help!

doing LST to keep the plant low is fine.. i mean you can start some LST work and still super crop on top of that.. but i'd wait until your next grow to start playing around... you'll be fine!

the gigabud is great.. it is a really nice strain... i'd get it through the attitude seedbank http://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/feminized-seeds/cat_37.html... its from g13 labs...

Hey what up SS420. I think the pineapple might end up being birthday bud...lol. Thanks. I have a few pics in my new album. I want to do some firming, lst, topping or some technique to keep them short and compact but still have like a few colas to produce a decent amount of bud. I have a bagseed growing with it also next will probablly be the Thai super skunk and a purplewreck or something that has a alright yeild but super potent or potent with a tropical flavor. Thanks for all of your help and please give me feedback on how they are doing. thanks again.

Hi Mr. Sim Sam.. I'm a new grower.. I have a pretty good set up so far... waiting for the rest of the seeds to come... Have the light 1000HPS (didnt want to have to worry about the lighting, so I just went big), room.. etc. all done.. Just had a qucik question on the germ. I've read.. tho as much as I can poss. stand to read.. lol but from what your saying in the thead... ~I need to put the seeds in shot glass for 24 hrs ~Should that be distilled water? Keep in warm dark place? U think heating pad would help with this on a low setting?????

Okay then. transplant to Jiffy pellets....( I do have them)... Should I put the attached dome over it then (U know, the one that comes with the pellet looking house)... for the humd. purposes? They stay there until how much of the tap root is sticking up? Do they need light..? OR do I just keep them warm and dark for while...Untill I see what? & that will tell me its time for light... I have a shop light in my room, as well, as the HPS but I have the shop light with the warm bulb and cool blub for the other... AT what point will I know to start using those lights?? OR should I just keep them in the 'pellet house" in a warm dark place for a certian amount of the root is showing? So I guess to sum up my questions right now... Distilled water in shot glass...? How many seeds per shot glass can I use? Wate to they all sink like 24 hrs.. Then CAREFUL place them in the Jiffy Pellets - under that lid too? Then what do with them? lol...

I have SOO many more things to ask - this is my 1st post... I didnt know where to go to ask these kinds of questions... an I really loved the fact that u took the time to explain this to us.. there is soooooo much info out online about this and it all says something totally diff... kind of diff - but the same concept... is there anyway i can email you...? I dont know if there some kind of rule about that or not... But I would really like to be able to contact you... Just to send quick questions... but if just asking them here is fine with you its fine with me.. Thank you and have a nice evening..

Thank you,
A

alright bro.. lets see if i can help you out a little bit to get started...

1) it helps speed up germination if you soak the seeds... a shot glass or anything else is fine really.. i just say a shot glass because the seeds are small and you dont need a huge glass... keep them in a warm dark place for up to 24 hours (At least 12 tho).... the heating pad isnt needed yet... so i wouldnt worry about it..

2) you want to soak your jiffy pellets to get them ready... 30 minutes in some water is fine... you want them wet but not dripping.. so holding one in your hand flick your wrist until the water stops dripping and you know your good...

3) you can place the dome over top until you see the sprouts pop up out of the pellets, then you'll want to remove it...

4) once the seeds are in the ubes you can place the tray on a heating pad (set on low) to help sprout the seeds faster yet if you want...

5) you'll know its time to transplant the cubes into whatever medium you are using once the roots are growing out of the bottom and sides of the cube...

6) you dont need to use distilled water for the beginning... but once you start feeding your plants you'll want to use ph'd distilled water...

7) when soaking the seeds you can put as many per glass as you want... just make sure to keep the strains seperated so you know what your planting of course.. and label the glasses as well..

8) not all the seeds will sink... almost all of them should.. but more than likely they will be floating when you check on them.. but if you tap them they will sink....

i think that pretty much covers it... its a little out of order.. my mind does that sometimes... but it should help a lot...

if you have any other questions.. or rather when you do.. you can either send me a pm like you did or post them here.. i check a few times a day usually to see if any one posted so more than likely it would only take a few hours to get a response... good luck!

Hey Man! Thanks so much for getting back to me... I really do appericate it!

Okay I do understand better now... So I have just a few more questions just to clear my head of them..lol

1- So, after I germ. and put in Jiffy Pellets, I keep them dark & warm?

2- How much of the Tap Root needs to be sticking out? B4 to transfer to the medium?

3- Once they sprout do they need light? If they do how much light... any kind of time schu? Or all 24 hrs.. with the cool/warm shop light?

4- When do I start using 1000HPS, I really wanted to not start using that big light untill I really need too.. B.c Man that thing is briget... Like Im going to need sun glasses when I water...lol.

5- I have bought 'like paint' buckets - of course that dont have paint or anything in them... They are brand new from Lowes... Now were going to cut holes in the bottom how many do u think we need to make sure we have decent draining...

6- What should the soil be when I go to the large meduim I have orgainc soil a med size bag... What should the other mix be? should any other soil base be added? Sand etc? I know you said that I should be the most expensive soil we can find.. but what Im not sure about is.. should it all be potting soil or should some be dirt or what..?

7- Fertlizer when should I start using that?

8- Is there any kind thats the best.. Like a clear understanding of... During Veg. like do I need 10-15-30 during veg. then during flowering 20-20-20.. I can never find anywhere that exactly what to do... So if you could let me know so I can go buy it...

Thank you in advance.. I hope you dont mind me asking you these questions... BUT I really do appericate it...:peace:

you can put them straight into the jiffy pellets after you soak them.. you dont have to paper towel them....

you can keep them in a dark and warm spot.. i prefer to keep light on them tho... its a personally choice really.. they dont NEED light until after they have sprouted out...

sprouts need 24/0 lighting until you transplant them into their final medium.... then you can change it if you want..

cool spectrum bulbs are best... but you can use warm and be fine...

you can use the 1000w'r pretty much after you transplant.. if you have enough light to grow it out to about 6 inches or so successfully, or if you have a 400w lamp to use for a while that would be ideal.. if you do use the hps make sure to have it around least 24" off the plant to begin with and adjust it from there.. basically you would want to try to veg them out for a couple weeks with some cfls or a smaller light and then introduce them to the big light... some ballasts are dimmable meaning you can turn down the power going to them.. i have lumatek 1000w ballasts like that.. i can turn them to either 600, 750, 1000, or a super lumen setting... it might be worth investing in something like that so you can turn it down in the beginning and turn it up as needed...

if you are putting some rocks in the bottom to assist with draining (which would be a good idea) you only need like 4 or 5 holes around the bottom... you may want a couple more than that if you are going all soil... they dont need to be very large either...

basically the reason i say get the most expensive soil is that cheaper soils have undesirable things in them.. like bugs and weeds... the more costly stuff doesnt have those things in them... but either works well... you dont need much to make a soil mix... i would recommend this.. and inch or 2 of rocks at the bottom of the buckets to further assist draining.. the soil can clog up the holes... then make a soil mix of 70 to 75 percent soil and 25 to 30 percent perlite... this will give you a good mix or aeration, drainage, and water retention...

start feeding nutes when you see growth of the plant has slowed/stopped or the plant starts yellowing which is a sign of a nitrogen def...

nutes are a little more than numbers... the numbers are misleading so dont always follow them... basically there are 4 types of nutes...

1 part all purpose
2 part veg/bloom
3 part veg/bloom/micro
and additives for different phases or what not

the more parts there are to the system the more expensive it is.. there are also chemical or organic nutes...

the best you can get is a 3 part system.. the nice thing about 3 part systems is that you can almost eliminate all def's using them.. if you notice you need more mag or cal you simply increase the 3rd part of the system... you need some nitrogen during flowering? simply add a little grow formula in... its very versitle and can be custom tailored to your crops with a little time and charting...

2 parts are second best.. less expensive.. but do have the seperate grow and bloom formulas.. they also have all the micro nutes you need included in those formulas.. but there is always a chance your plant needs more than what they supply.. so adding more of those micro nutes may take a supplement like cal mag

all purpose nutes are the least ideal nutes.. they contain everything your plant needs... but you have no control over what and how much it is getting during when... without careful usage these types of nutes often lead to burn or defs...

there are a ton of additives for all different nute lines.. if you are just getting your feet wet there isnt much of a need to use them.. its basically a learning experience now... if you want to use them just do some research on the line and what they offer...

i recommend a 3 part system.. it will cost you a little more.. but its an important part in your plants growth and flowering abilities.. you dont feed an mma fighter twinkies and ho hos do you?? if you want your plant to be a champ you should use good nutes...

check out general hydroponices, technaflora (their BC line), fox farms, or advanced nutes.. they are the more commonly used and better ones in the nute lines...

i dont mind the questions at all... thats why i made this thread

For this question...(1- So, after I germ. and put in Jiffy Pellets, I keep them dark & warm? ) what Im asking is.. after the 24 hrs in water and most sink... and I tranfer to pellets.. I keep the lid on... then DO i keep them dark?? and of couse I keep them warm... but that was my question about that... Then at what point do I need any light at all??? Thank you!
go to pellets that have been soaked and semi drained... and then a tray in a warm area.. light is optional at this point.. but needed after the sprout breaks the top..
