I'll second that you are the shizzle fazizzle! Minus the polishing part. The girls are turning into very pregnant women. And holy earth mother we thank you! Most especially for your abundance. You have been most kind.
Still two weeks to go. Trichs are LONG and milky. I've been clipping back the little fan leaves that come out of the buds. Not the little ones mind you, but full tiny leaves. Anyway it seems to really help those buds a little lower down. I'm trying to be careful and not overdue it. My girls are thinking "sink or swim" and they're putting in the last push for the finish! How fucking awesome is that! I've goota post some pics.
removing those leaves from the buds will hinder the actual bud growth... basically once flowering is about half way through, large fan leaves turn to energy storing/water storing leaves... then the little bud leafs take over as the main light absorbers, thus, produce the energy for the plant... selective trimming of them can help maintain lower buds.. but it can also be somewhat counterproductive if the bud doesnt absorb all the light it can... to see what i mean, next grow you do, trim a couple like you are now and leave a couple alone.. this always helps, visually, to see the differences in what A does vs B.. but i am very happy for you bro!! i hope that i dont sound dickish.. bongsmilie i am waiting to see pics... really wanna see what you got working bro!

Also, I understand and I have read all that you have written. I have an 8inch container that holds 3 quarts of soil and mixture. I have 2 parts potting soil and 1 part vermiculite. I understand that I need to get a moisture meter but I was just looking at how much water I should give each plant each time I water. I will be watering every three days or so but I just would like to have an estimate on how much water.

Thanks for all of the info. My first grow went pretty good, started with 4 plants and 3 ended up females and gave me great buds but I am looking to step it up for the second and built a new grow box from all of the information here and elsewhere. I am in the middle of planning for the next grow and just wanted an estimate.
watering is an area that is somewhat tricky to answer...

the simple answer is water until the soil is completely saturated and you see run off.. the problem is this doesnt always soak the soil as much as it can be/needs to be.. or it leaves dry spots in the soil.. which isnt good for roots..

here are the 2 ways i watered...

1) i got some drainage trays that i put under my pots.. i would water until the trays filled with water, then move to another plant.. by the time i did this to all my plants, the one i started with would have a dry tray, from sucking the water back up into the pot... i would then start all over, watering the plants until the trays filled.. usually after the second time the trays filled it was enough water that the soil couldnt absorb any more.. after about 30 minutes or so i would empty out the trays of access water, if there was any..

2) the second way, which can be somewhat of a pain, is to fill a container that is2 times larger than your pot, roughly, about 1/2 with nute solution... take your pot and submerge it in the nute solution... try to keep the plant from getting in the water if at all possible... let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes.. remove.. and allow to drain.. this is the quickest way to thoroughly water all your plants.. but can be a pain figuring out where to do it.. plus as your plants get bigger and bigger it gets more of a pain..

as far as the amount of water, it will change with the size of the pot you are using... the main thing is to just make sure that the soil is well moistened.. i always broke up the top 1 inch or so of dirt.. i found that helped the water penetrate through a little easier... you can also add a couple drops of BIODEGRADABLE, NON SCENTED dish soap... this also seemed to help...

Thanks a lot.
your quite welcome!

the smoke report is fine to post in here!! i am glad to be able to see what you think of what you got!!

i absolutely love the super lemon haze.. its going to be a keeper strain for sure.. i had a blue widow seed that died.. but im not to sad about it.. wish i could have tried it tho as it looked wonderful... king kush sounds great.. i always like the fruiter tasting strains.. that and hash tasting strains are my favorite... and skunk #1 is a good consistant strain.. good yield and smoke all in one!

congrats bro!

Dickish? Is that a word? No you clearly were not being a "dick" but THANKS FOR POPPING MY FUCKING BALOON MAN !! (Just kidding). Seriously though. Great info man. I must say that there is one plant that I did not trim that way and she is doing great, so I'll take your word for it. Makes me want to SCROG. Probably will just try to develope shorter bushier plants based on the techniques you have described though. Pics to follow.

i have my light about 19inches from my plants is that ok, the light is a 400watt hps... oh yeah simpson what strains are you gonna do next, right now im doing 1 church(green house),1 lemon skunk(dna genetics), 1L.A. woman(dna genetics), 3 kushberry(dna genetics), 1king kush(green house), and my fav 1super lemon haze(green house)

you should get your light closer if you can... a 400w should be 9 to 12 inches away... closer if it can be even... basically you want it as close as it can be without causing problems like light bleaching or leaf burning...

i plan on growing super lemon haze again.... matanuska tundra... and i think blueberry skunk... and as far as the autos i am going to run i think i am going with ak48

I have a question. I'm harvesting my ladies and am finding seeds, more in some of the plants than others. There were no males, could stress of any kind have caused the ladies to seed or do seeds develop only after pollination?

I have a question, I have seedlings that are about 2-3 inches high, and have a 400mh light on them, how often should I water them , and should I wait til 2-3 weeks before adding any nutes to them, I have the 3 prt system, and when I get the veg stage how often do I feed them, seen some post saying 4-6 times a day is that correct, and is that all nutes with water or some just with water, so confused.

there are a couple options... its hard to say which one.. but ill tell you all 3 or 4 ways in which seeds can be produced...

1) the first and obvious one is there is a male present.. you said that isnt the case.. so we'll continue..

2) there was a hermie... hermies can show from stress or just genetics... sometimes it can be hard to find the banana sacs on them... i had this issue once.. i had a rouge hermie i didnt know about who let pollen sacs pop causing surrounding ladies to be pollenated somewhat... there is a HUGE difference in a hermie pollination and a male/female pollination.. when males pollinate the entire plant is damn near seeds... when its a hermie, although there are seeds present, the buds are still usually salvageable...

3) in nature, when there is a group of all females, its not uncommon for 1 or more of the females to produce seeds throughout flowering.. its a survival thing.. to make sure their genetics are carried on... this can happen indoors as well... but it sounds like this isnt the case...

4) this is definitely not the situation, but using collodial silver on a female will cause it to produce pollen sacs.. this is how they make true fem'd seeds.. but thats another lesson..

out of these, and from what you said, its most likely you had a hermie or two... whether it was do to stress or genetics or both there was a female or two or more that produced pollen sacs that were released... thus the seeds... the buds still should be good... you'll just have to remove the seeds... it sucks, i know.. but it happens...

try to limit all the stress you can in the future to avoid this situation... good luck bro!! bongsmilie

well the question you asked is sort of.. vague... only because you are not saying whether its soil or hydro.. ill cover both tho.. just to be safe...

if you are using soil - i found the easiest place to start seeds was in dixie cups with drains house cut in the bottom.. once the seed is placed in the soil saturate the soil until it is draining out the bottom.. dont water again until the soil has dried out.. this could be 5 days or more.. dont worry tho.. the seedling wont use a lot of water in the very beginning.. once the soil is dried out water again, until it starts to drain.. when you see roots coming out of the bottom you know its time to transplant.. when you transplant you should saturate the soil (after you move the plant into the new soil) until you see water running from the bottom and start your watering schedule from there... making sure to allow the soil to dry out in between watering...

2) if using hydro - it will vary a little bit depending on the medium you are using.. if you are using a moisture holding medium, like coco coir or peat moss, you may only need to water 2 times a day... if you are using a medium like hydroton or rocks or something similar you may need to water 4 or 5 times a day.. basically you want to look for signs of underwatering or over watering and adjust from there... ill explain more shortly..

i wont bother with aeroponics right now... if someone has questions about it i will be happy to answer tho...

now... its always better to underwater than over water.. over watering will cause the entire plant to sag... stems and all.. to me, it looks like the plant is drenched... like a wet dog.... just completely sagged and drooped and sad... underwatering looks similar, but the stems seem to retain some of their rigidity.. signs will show at the bottom of the plant and work up.. the leaves seem to go limp.. but the stems hold their shapes... again... its better to underwater, where you can simply add another watering (if in hydro) or just water (if in soil) than to over water... because if you over water in soil you can remove the water.. hydro is more forgiving there.. but you still need to watch out for it..

as far as nutes go there is a big difference in when you should start...

in soil there should be enough nutes to get through the first couple weeks... whether you are starting in a dixie cup or bigger container, you probably will have 2 to 3 weeks from seed before you need to worry about nutes.. the best way to tell if its time to add nutes is if you start to see yellowing on the plant.. the yellowing is a sign of an N deficiency... you can start before you see the yellowing if you want.. but i'd wait until they are at least 2 to 3 weeks old either way...

start out with a 1/4 strength application... this means use 1/4 of the recommended amount... this will give your plant a chance to adjust to the nutes.. and you a chance to see how they react to them... increase the amount used over time... this is a better area to under do than over do again... i recommend an every other feeding schedule.. which means everyother time you feed you use nutes.. so nutes, water, nutes, water, nutes, water, and so on....

with hydro you pretty much need to start out nutes from the beginning.. the soil provides enough nutes for the seedling.. with hydro there is nothing to absorb nutes from.. so you need to feed the seedlings from the beginning... similar to the soil in that you should start with 1/4 strength nutes to begin with and gradually increase each week.. the best way to know if you need to increase or decrease the amount of nutes is to watch the plant... hydro will show deficiencies and burn much quicker than soil since there is no buffer.. if you see signs of deficiencies, then you know you need to add more nutes.. if you see signs of burn you know you need to cut back... i keep my ph just high enough that the plants barely show signs of burn on the leaf edges... and i do mean barely... keeping the ph correct in a hydro system is very important to make sure the plant can absorb all the nutes... you dont want to increase nutes because you think you have a deficiency, and that def is related to ph lock out and not plant needs.. that can easily lead to nute burn...

i hope i answered your questions.. if you have any more please ask..

sorry for the missed details, but I use soil, so I got every 4-5 days for seedlings, feeding them, their in the first week, starting to sprout the 2nd set of leaves, so proud, but when I transplant them, and get them into the Veg stage, how often would I need to feed them, didn't see in the above post about that, but every other feeding it should be the nutes, I got that, but thanks for the help!!!!!!!!!

Hey, I started my first grow with seeds in a bag that I got. The stuff wasn't great but it was all I had. If I put a picture of the plant in flowering do you think you could tell me what strain it is?

how often you feed is up to your plants, soil, and how fast moisture evaporates from your plants.. basically when you water you want to thoroughly soak the soil... then wait until it is dry to water again.. it could be anywhere from 3 to 5 days... using a moisture meter will help take the guess work out of the when since it'll tell you when its dry..

its almost impossible to identify strains by just picture... very few strains are distinct enough to be identifiable like that.. i can tell you whether it has indica or sativa dominance.. about how long you have to flower yet.. but the exact strain, especially if it came from a random bag, i can not tell you.. its probably some random crosses...

for cuttings you should mist them lightly with it... maybe every other day until you see roots.. you should get a rooting/cloning product like root 66 or clonex or something similar for best results..

Hi, i was wondering if you could answer a little question for me. I'm trying to choose a good vegging light and have decided to go with either a 200 or 400w MH. My question concerns heat, and i was just wondering if the heat given off a MH bulb was the same as a HPS of the same watt? Cheers

metal halide lamps put off way more heat than an hps.... by a lot... couldnt tell you exact degrees.. but it is quite significant...

one suggestion.. if you are worried about heat.. but have the money to spend.. here is my suggestion for your light http://www.wormsway.com/detail.aspx?t=prod&sku=SSG104&AC=1

yes.. they are 500 a piece.. but.. here is what makes them so good...

1) your may concern was heat.. they barely get to 90 degrees running temp... even after 24 hours of straight on you can touch the bulbs with no problems... you can literally keep them under an inch away from your plants with no issues at all.. even seedlings...

2) each ballast puts off 44,000 lumens.. thats almost as many lumens as a 400 hps... what this means is that with the ability to get within a inch or less of your plants they actually get WAY over 44,000 lumens.. since lumen ratings are rated at 1 foot from the light source, and you can get them well under 1 foot from the canopy, you are getting WAY WAY over 44,000 lumens... closer to 80 or 90 thousand...

3) they are 420w... which isnt much more than an hps...

4) bulbs are rated for something like 15000 hours or something.. and since they are floros the lumen rating is a steady number and the bulbs never lose their strength until they are out.. HID lamps have an initial rating (usually the number they give) and a mean rating (after they fire up they lose some of their lumens and "power"), plus they have to be changed every few grows to be kept up...

i have 4 of them.. i've used them to veg and flower all my grows so far... if you want to see what they can do check out my youtube video or journal.. both links are below... i do have, and am getting some hps lamps.. but mainly the hps lamps i have now were bought because they were cheap and i was short on money and needed more lights.. and the other hps lamps i am getting are 4 x 1000ws for my flower room... but if they ever make a 1000w version of these floros i will sell the hps and switch...

they will out preform the 400w hps.... i promise... just gotta get past the price point... bongsmilie

how many plants can a 400watt hps light grow if your using 2gallon pots
i'd say 4 to 8... i'd try to keep it closer to 4 to 6 though... and keep them under 18" for final height to get the most out of your light...

Thanks for the reply mate, will this light here give me good results for vegging? there gonna be in a tent while my current grow finish flowering (roughly 5weeks to go) ideally i'd like my cuttings to get to 22"s tall in this time, would this light be capable for achieving this? thanks mate! nice video by the way

http://www.growell.co.uk/g/463/Lightwave-T5-Fluorescent-Grow-Lights.html
this light SHINES during veg.. it provides some of the most amazing veg growth i've seen.. you'll have nice short fat stocky plants for sure!! and i flowered plants that ended up being around 5 feet tall my last grow.. so your goal of 22" is more than do able!!

Very nice info! Being that its my first
glad you found some useful information!

Thanks for taking the time to write this. Most appreciated.
no prob! more than happy to have done it!
