Flood & Drain, Rockwool Sitting In Water

In my flood and drain I use 4" rockwool cubes and a Lowe's concrete mixing tub. I have it elevated towards the drain hole, which sites about a quarter inch above the bottom of the concrete mixing tub, therefore any water that gets pumped in will drain out except the 1/4" that can't reach the drain. It makes my rockwool sit in a puddle of water, which I know isn't a good thing. I was thinking about sitting a rack in there, but that wouldn't help much and it would make me have to flood higher.

Any suggestions?

Wood strips or the rack or something. RW sitting in water=no O2=root rot in a hurry.

That's why those flood trays have those ridges and gullys. So you flood a little higher, so what?

BTW, not in hydro, but make use of those same HD mixing tubs. 3 large and 2 of the small.

You don't have to submerge the RW. Half way or so and it will wick the solution up in 30-45 seconds.

So do I have to flood to cover the whole cube, or just like half way?

Thanks man :)

1/2 way will be fine, just get the bottoms of those cubes off the surface of those tubs and above the standing water.

If you plan on staying with the 4 inch cubes. Get a root mat from your hydro store. This will give your roots somewhere to grow and keep them out of the light. Also you can ad as much as you need to keep the RW out of the water.

You've been here for ages, have nearly 2000 posts and rep coming out of your arse and you are posting questions in newbie central? What then do all those feathers in your cap indicate?
And as a serious answer- have you looked into bell siphons?

All of my experience has been with soil growing, but I'm venturing into Hydro. I've never looked into bell siphons. I bought a plastic tray from Wal-Mart and drilled holes in it and all seems well :).

And I don't really consider a year to be 'ages' :P.
