First Grow

Ok so I have my first grow set up.

Lights:

3x 42 watt daylight CFL
1x 42 watt soft white CFL (switching these numbers around during flower)
1x 13 watt soft white CFL
1x 23 watt ReptiGlo 10.0 ( UVB) CFL

Soil:
Hortibec Nature Mix

Strain:
Nirvana Auto Northern Lights

Nutrients:
Sucanat and Prune Juice (Provides my P-K)

Water:
Reverse-osmosis Culligan water (Man I forgot how to spell water there haha)

-----------------------------

Now that we're all up to snuff....

The seeds have been in the ground for 11 days now, and either this is a rock showing or it's the seed finally starting to sprout. I managed to get temps to stay steady between 21C (70F) and 27C (80F)
Thoughts or comments?

so your nutrients are... Sugar and... prune juice ? So really your only feeding the beneficial microbes. I doubt prune juice is going to provide any amount of PK boost.
Is that soil mix ammended enough to take you threw till harvest?

i just shit my pants reading your nute list.
lol yup

and yea get some perlite in the soil asap, take the rootball out and anything that doesnt have roots going through it mix with perlite, then put it back in. You're going to need more than sugar and prune juice lol

The mix has perlite in it, along with peat moss, humus, and compost. The prune juice contains significant amounts of PK and Sucanat is heavy with molasses, which iirc people use when they don't use nutes for the flush. I was going to do 15ml/gal water combined.

If it turns out that doesn't work I'll give that up and go buy some organic nutes.

Youve been mis-informed on two fronts
1 -Show me one spec of perlite in that soil... there is none

2 -Prune juice doesn't contain enough PK to do anything

Unless your trying to see how unsuccessfull your first grow can be, you should just go with what is known to work

not trying to be a dink, just trying to help you out

No offence taken.

Alright guys, so where would I find perlite then, and how to I take that wee seedling out and incorporate it into my soil?

Youll find perlite at any gardening store, you might have a hard time finding it in smaller bags though, but the big bag will be handy to have around anyways.
I would mix 30% perlite to 70%soil
Your going to have to be very carefull not to hurt the taproot that has already come down probably a few inches by now. I've seen half a seedlings taproot get ripped clean off and it lagged by about 3 days behind the other seedlings and eventually caught up, so as long as your carefull you probably wont kill them. Have your new ammended soil ready and transfer the seedlings into that, then water them into the new soil

Ok so I'm going to buy some perlite on tomorrow (monday). However if I don't see some growth by tuesday this plant is getting the axe. That will have been two weeks, and I don't even know if that's a seedling or a rock sitting there.

So two new developments. The first, while slightly off topic, is relevant to most of our interests. I ordered some seeds from AmsterdamMarijuanaSeeds on the 19th. They sent me a letter about how they enjoyed our previous talk and sent a free sample of their "product". To the unexpecting eye it looks like they sent me a permanent marker with the option to buy 1000 of them for 400 quid. However upon closer inspection the marker opens up and there are the seeds. Took 9 days to get here from the Netherlands. They may still have the 20 free seeds available with a purchase. I bought 10 Afghan and got 20 White Widow
's for free. Pics attached.

Now more relevant to this thread--when I added the extra lights yesterday, that were close to the dirt, the seedling really has gotten bigger, or so I think. So now I've moved them as close to the light as possible. Then I placed a humidity dome over the seedling. Maybe tomorrow I'll see some bigger progress.

Hahahaha that marker thing is awesome, I wish the companies I have purchased from were a little smarter... they sent me instructions with the package on how to germinate "Marijuana Seeds"... not very stealthy lol

Yea that seeds a junker i would say. Now you got some real seeds though

The paper towel method of germination is my favourite, its easy to do and it has worked for 100% of my seeds. Once it sprouts you use tweezers and insert it into the soil with the root facing down.

Yep I always use a paper towel wt it fold the seed up inside then I put it in a zip lock bag and fold the bag which I usually put under a cfl bulb like a desk lamp or something to get it warm never fails me in a couple days even 24 hrs mine pop.

pill bottle with water and a drop of kelp. when seeds sink, plant them. any that do not emerge would have given you problems. no punk seeds in my garden......
