First Grow - Some droopy leaves

Did a few changes.

  • I did do the res change last night.

  • I also switched my HPS for a MH. My ballast has a switch so I can use it for both:lol:.

  • I moved my "exhaust" fan. It is now pulling air from right under the light. The highest that it ever gets now is 83. It does drop to 63 with the light out though I hope that this doesn't shock them too much. The low temps might have been because of the very cold day though.

  • I trimmed the dead leaves. I am not sure if this is good or bad to do. I couldn't find any info on this.
It has only been one full day since the improvements. There is new growth and I hope that they will soon start to look like real plants;-)
Cool . How often are you watering them? Keep up the good work.

  • So it has been a few days now since the changes. They are looking much better since the MH bulb, rez change and better placement of the fan.

  • The one on the top left is growing the best but has the weakest looking roots, this is weird. The one on the top right is already giving off a good bud smell.:hump: This really surprised me, I did not know that this could happen at such a small size. The other two just smell like grass.

  • Don, I am watering every 2 hours for 30 minutes. Thanks for the encouragement and advice. I will continue to post on this thread for the rest of the grow. I will probably have more questions and/or problems in the future since I am an inexperienced first time grower.

  • Minor, Thank you also for the encouragements. I was very close to giving up and starting over in soil. I am probably gonna order some seeds though and setup a separate soil grow. I might also try to clone the one that has a good smell coming off of it but I don't want to get overzealous.

what are you using for airaition of your rez? I know you have a drip line, but aren't the roots hanging in the solution? Maybe your air pump is clogged/insufficient and they are droopy due to oxy deprivation to the roots. Just a thought, other things looked in line to me, keep the temps below 80 if at all possible, makes a world of difference.

I have one 12 inch stone in the water but I have seen a lot of similar systems with two of these stones. I am gonna go get another pump and stone and see if this helps at all. I have been keeping the temps at 80 and below for about three days now with the improved fan placement. Thanks for the tips sg15!

Whats the rez temperature also? if it is above 75 you can have root issues due to pathogens. Frozen 2l is a cheap solution, the only other way is a expensive ass chiller, just another thought to check on. Higher water temps = lower dissolved oxygen = sad roots.

Perkin up man! Looks like the changes have helped... maybe the air in the rez isn't the issue? O well if you upgrade it your plants will grow even faster, also keep those temp things in mind. Good luck.

Thanks SG15! I need to get a thermometer for my water. I will probably get one tomorrow, if I have time.

Nothing new right now, except one thing, check out what I found on my plant when I took the picture. On the one in the front, on one of it's leaves. It is a F*ing Stink bug:evil:! I hate those things. Plants are doing well though.

They have been growing very nicely now and it seems like they are growing faster every day. I am soooo happy that they pulled through since I put so much effort into them. I just hope that I get some ladies.:bigjoint: I am planning on vegging for five weeks since I lost about a week on the problems that I was having. I am not sure though. If anyone has any suggestions on this, let me know.

  • They are about 4 inches tall at the moment and I only have 30 inches to work with.

I only vegged 5 weeks from seed. Mine are too big, over 30 inches...the supercropped plant would be over 50 inches if I let it. Next time I'm only vegging 3 to 4 weeks max.

Plants are doing well. :mrgreen:I am gonna do another rez change on Tuesday. I am gonna decide whether or not to start flower sometime before then or on Tuesday. I really can't decide what to do right now because things are going well and I don't want to mess anything up. I was also wondering if I should switch to my HPS bulb right away when I start flowering? My ballast is good for 250 watt MH and HPS.

You are in veg (18/6), your talking about starting flower (12/12). You can leave the MH in for the first week of of 12/12 (commonly refereed to as the 'stretch') but then u should switch to HPS for bud production. There is some debate about MH being more effective the last 2 weeks of flower, but I have yet to give that a try. The best part about flower is they grow even faster...lol you'll see what I mean

Thanks for the advice on the bulbs, SG15. I suspected this was the case. I am definately looking forward to flowering even more now. I didn't know that they grow even faster.

  • The pictures are one week apart. The first one is from last Sunday and the second is from this Sunday. I am very happy with the growth I have gotten in just a week.

The plants in the back are growing great but the one in the front is constantly struggling. I might just cut it since I might need the space but I am gonna wait a little longer to decide. I am gonna wait at least until I know which if them are girls and which are not. They are all bad seed. The one on the right is from a really good bag:leaf: that I had gotten and the other two are from some mediocre bud that I bought that had a TON of seeds:o.

Things are looking good.

I would definately wait until you sex them. No reason to cut down a female if you have the time and space to grow it.

Good Luck...

it takes a couple days and will come on quick....get a magnifying glass it will help. Every 6 hours check the nodes for little hairs looks great though bro......

I'm not absolutely sure yet but I think the one on the left that is the tallest is male.:-? I'm pretty sure that I saw a staminate. I hope I am wrong though. It is pretty small and hard to tell. I will probably know better tonight when the light comes back on.
