First Grow, cfl, micro, computer 105 watts

Now that I have all of my questions answered I feel like I should now start a grow thread.

Day 1

Built my case from an old server tower that I got from craigslist. The lighting used is a 105watt 5000k cfl. This would be a mother case so I thought 105 watts would be plenty.

Using a passive intake and two 80mm exhausts the temperatures rose above 100.

Day 4:

got my tools and started cutting away to make better airflow. added ducting and a glass underside to my reflector. this brought temperatures down to 80-90 which was still to much.

Also got alot of seedlings that were rather neglected so i took over and started to revive them.

day 6:
modded the case even more, added three 120mm fans, two as intakes and 1 as in exhaust. now it seems i have the temperature under control

week 2

temperatures are good vary from 73-84 depending on day or night.

all the plants are doing well and i swapped out the dirt for some miracle grow violet something or another.

light schedule is 24/0 for now. once the plants get a bit more mature ill switch over to 18/6. then once they get around 6" tall ill switch over to 12/12 to determine the sex.

i have a box that is built for flowering but still need the fans and lights. its 14"deep 19"wide 21.5" tall.

Your plants looks droopy. Proabably because of over-watering. Be sure to water only when the top inch of soil is completely dry.
What do you have for inner air circulation?

thats what ive been thinking. ive been moving around into different soils and each time i think i over watered too much.

as far as air circulation i have two 120mm front intake fans. and 2 80mm and 1 120mm fans for exhausts. the bottom intake fan is tilted up so it blows air up and away, and it also blows on the plants

Great then :D

Just watch for that overwatering thing. Watering once every 4-5 days is normal. At times I didn't had to water for over a week - and thats fine.
The best method to know when to water is the pot lifting technique; lift your pot. Heavy = do not water. Very light = water. (as there are more water in the pot the heavier it gets)

You better let your plants go droopy a bit from under-watering and then water than continusly over-water.

just a little bit of an update. all plants are doing awesome. though its rather ironic that they are doing better because i havnt watered them in a few days.

i built a nice compact flowering box that i will use to grow 2 plants and of course i will be training them and doing a scrog screen as well to maximize yield.

i recently purchased two 42 watt bulbs that are 2700k in color. the box has two 120mm fans on the top back section for exhausts and with those fans alone temps get around 90 degrees. so what i plan on doing first is adding a few vents in the bottom back section as passive intakes and see how well that does. if its not cured then ill just add some suction. the two bulbs are within a sealed diy reflector same as my pc case. it also has a 120mm fan on the top for an exhaust.

first 3 pictures are from within the vegging case (as if the color didnt give it away)

YOYO! Great grow so far. Good job on catching onto the whole watering thing. How much do you water now and how often?

What light cycle do you have the lights on? Do you plan on completing the grow in there? : )

+Rep & Subbing. I wanna see this one : )

oh yea. i plan on sexing the plants and keeping the females as mothers, then just keep on taking clones

+Rep & Subbing. I wanna see this one : )
thanks!

flowering case is operational, added a single 120mm fan in the bottom rear as in intake and temperatures are in the nice 80's when light is on and 75 when off

here are pictures of the plants that i started flowering somewhere else. these were the original ones that i had rescued and am now flowering just to find out the sex.

they all are doing excellent and am very happy with how fast they are growing. though i can tell the lower leaves are not getting enough light as they are starting to turn yellow and die off. i think i am going to stick some 23watt cfls near the bottom to give them a little bit of help

the first 6 sprouted around 9/01. then a couple weeks later i got some better seeds and killed of 2 of the plants and planted 2 more seeds ~ 9/10.

though just yesterday i was given like a 2" piece of a female plant that was starting to die so i put some cloning powder on it and rigged up a humidity dome and threw it in my vegging case. im not expecting much but we'll see in a day or two

putting dates on the plants didnt really matter to me as time wasnt a factor. though since you asked i put a date on there so everyone else can have an idea.bongsmilie

finally invested into some ph up/down , and of course a water test kit. my distilled water that i have a cup left was~6.0, the rainwater i collected was at around 6.0 as well. and the tap water (just to kiks) was at around 7.2.

so i added some ph up to the rain water and its at a nice 6.5-6.8 right now. pictures will be posted up ~midnight as thats when the lights come back on (would you want to be disturbed when sleeping :joint:)

forgot to take pictures of them, so havnt seen them in awhile and when i looked at them this morning they looked a little weak. so i started giving them my ph balanced w/miracle grow rain water and see how they do with that.

1 gallon jug is regular rain water that i collected. the other is another 1 gallon jug of rain water with 1/2teaspoon of miracle grow. both have ph values of ~6.8

this i my first time using this miracle grow solution so wel'll see how it does in a few days:blsmoke:

Hey bro

Good looking grow. I have a micro system growing that is about two weeks behind yours. The link is in mi sig. I'll be watching to see how your nutes go before I decide what way I want to go.

Keep it up bra

If I were you I'd use the tap water. after a few hours leadless the chlorine should eveporate and the water will be usable.
As I'm a lazzy man I'd even use the water without any PH adjustments. If you add a bit of fert usually the PH goes down a bit and PH7 is quite fine for me.

Rain water is great, but don't go too far if you don't have them at hand - the tap water (after at least 6 hours leadless of caurse) is just fine.

If your soil comes with fertilizers (like most of the sold soil) you don't need to add ferts much for the first month or so. My way of doing it is to water with PHed water until the tops become a bit pale and then I start with 1/5 the dose recommanded and go my way up as needed, sometimes even 2 times the recommanded dosage.

Good luck ;)

If I

Good luck ;)
thanks for the info.

i have alot of distilled water and am not dependent on rain water. it just downpourd for like 2 days so i just took advantage of it and got like 2 gallons of clean water.

once that goes out i already have a supply of tap water that i left out for 2 days then ph balanced it as well.

its been almost half a day since i gave them the miracle grow, and they look fine. as far as sex goes i wanna say i have 2 males and one female. though it is a bit to early to say 100%
