Salt isn't a huge issue. Most pumps can be taken apart and cleaned regularly. I use a ball valve before a pump and after it. That way I can shut the water off, clean the pump every once in a while, and then put it back in place without having to move anything major.

Hey man if you got an extra $150 bucks or so I would recommend really looking into a rdwc with an under current. You will find out really quick that it’s damn near impossible to scrog with 5 gallon buckets due to the fact that you can’t access the roots easy. If you were to go with a rdwc you could put in a second bucket to check your levels and give you access to the water Incase you need to do a res change. When I did DWC. I absolutely dreaded res change day. And I never used a screen.
