i have decided that since all the leaves, both fan and sugar, are changing colors, i have probably reached the end of this grow. i am going to go dark this afternoon before i leave for work and will be gone until wednesday when i will chop a bitch! from what i have read, the darkness increases the smell so my wife will be ready to flay my hide when i get home cause they are stinking the place up pretty good as it is...

Make sure you keep the fans runnin to decrease the chances of mold!!!

Those plants are lookin amazing! I like the redish purple hue. Usually means theyre about ripe and have used up all of their mag/p. Perfect timing! im gonna be puttin my auto cheese in the dark in a day or two as well. Amped for the new year of harvests.

Have a happy new year as well!

thanks. you have a safe and happy new year as well.

i turned my dehumidifier down to 35 and will have the exhaust fan cranked up to remove as much moisture as i can. mold would suck...

Wow Apollo,
bad luck with great seeds, no females out of six plants?

why not order the Feminized seeds?

The worry about Hermes is not as real a danger as most people think.
I read all around the net at breeders and review sites on the subject of feminized seeds.

Basically from my recent reading you would have to nearly kill a plant to stress it into herme state.

I bought all feminized seeds, 5 MasterKush and 5 white Siberian.
white Siberian is a cross between white widow and AK47 created by Dinafem.

here is a blurb from Seed bank about MasterKush.

Seedbank- Dutch Passions
MasterKush (5)
Marijuana Seeds Information
We bravely extracted this sturdy plant back from the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, it is a compact and forgiving variety that grows well in any medium such as soil, hydro, coco etc. Master Kush produces an extremely potent smoke that is smooth and sweet with earthy/citrus flavours, the high is strong and powerful. Less odour than normal is produced during flowering (important for some growers).

Buds are large, heavy and pale green with long hairs that range from white to orange/brown. Master Kush is resistant to spider mite but can be susceptible to mould in humid conditions due to the sheer size and density of the bud growth.

MK thrives under most growing conditions; it clones easily and is a reliably generous producer of very high quality pot. A favourite of ours, we highly recommend it to you.
Flowering period: 8 - 9 weeks

as a rough calculation, i have 50 colas hanging up in my grow room. even if they avg 3 grams a piece which is conservative, that would be 150 grams. i am going to revise my estimate to 200 plus grams due to the popcorn buds and some smaller colas i have drying in paper bags. i was using 216 watts of t5 bulbs and 52 watts of cfl so a total of 268 watts. so i am guessing about 3/4 grams per watt. i think i started to taper nutes too early this run so i think i can boost my yield on my next grow which is coming along now. https://www.rollitup.org/blogs/blog32247-3rd-grow-greenhouse-thai-fem.html

weighed a bunch of popcorn-ish buds yesterday. 27 grams after drying in a paper bag for a day. weighed the same buds today and they are down to 18 grams. 1/3 of it's weight lost in about 24 hours. i left one stem on the bunch to have a stem to crack as an indicator of when it is dry enough to jar up. not nearly ready yet. buds are sticky and stinky and crystally. i have read that you can plan on the harvest losing 2/3 to 3/4 of it's weight as it dries. there are probably science dudes on here that know if drying follows a linear, exponential or logarithmic curve but looking at this evidence, i'd say the two trains will intersect in chicago at 3 pm on sunday and the engineers name is oldfogey;)...

sorry. i am bored...

hahahaha gettin technical on us! Ive noticed that 25% is about on. Its around 15-20 if you leave all your stems on and shit.

We used to hang ours by the stem but now we use drying nets. But when we did wed do a wet weight with the stems on and figure were gonna get down to 25-20% moisture and then remove a good chunk of weight due to stems. But a lot of those were really long stems or on buds that were really heavy so the stems were fat. haha

I chopped my auto cheese yesterday and its been dryin since. Hopefully ill have some bho in a few days!!!

Good luck on the dry/cure!

14 grams today for the control group weigh in so i lost 22% over the last 24 hours. probably will wind up with about 11 grams from this little batch. the other buds i have put into paper bags. they were drying too fast out in the open air as it is really really dry here abouts. supposed to get colder so that will bring drier air with it. kind of disappointed. i weighed what i have now and i am around 200 grams. this will turn out better than my first grow but i think to get the bigger yields i am going to have to break down like everyone has been telling me and get hid lamps...

WOOOO!! Glad you saw the light, or will see the brighter light soon haha.

Thats still a really nice yield from fluoros. Especially since you seem to smoke at a slower rate than most people on here haha.

Let me know what youre thinking about gettin and ill try to help out if needed. I just threw my auto cheese into a jar because the outside was gettin pretty chrispy but if its all soggy when i check it later ill pull it out and hang if over night again.

yeah. my buddage was getting all crispy on the outside. i threw mine in some jars and the rh was way too high(upper 70's). back in some paper bags to try to slowly land in the cure zone.

i do smoke at a much lower rate probably than most but i have 2 sons that are smokestacks. i will keep about an oz(a zip) for me and let my sons smoke the rest.

as far as the hid lighting, i am afraid of heat in my tent. i may opt for changing to like a 250 w sodium fixture though i am not sure. i figure the thai plants i have now will be vegging for a couple months so i have time...

good luck with your auto cheese...

250ws arent that bad. I had a 2x4x5 tent with one in it then bumped up to a 400w without much difference. The main problem was when the 600w would kick on.

The floralux fixtures are really nice. If you gott 2 of the 150ws theyd be manageable and spread light better than 1 250w.

I have 1x 150w hps in the minicab and i can keep my place 75 or warmer and it doesnt get over 80. So 2 in a bigger tent will be pretty easy to handle. I think itd cost somewhere around 150 bucks for 2 of them plus or minus. Add a few fans and some ducting and youll have a nice layout and can still use cfls or fluoros for side lighting.

Check out HTG supply for any grow equipment. Amazing customer service and good inexpensive products.

hey bud. i use htg because a) they are local for me and b) they guys in the shop grow some wicked tomatoes. they gave me what i consider to be very good advice. so my tent is smaller at 2x4x4(not by much but i still have tent envy) but i might go with one 150 watter and supplement with my t5's and cfl's. i have a pretty good exhaust fan i got form htg . my problem is the sound. my kids and (the problem) their friends hang out in my basement all the time and the exhaust fan is noticeable in volume. i would like to sound proof but the room is also my cats litterbox room so i can't make it like a brinks safe. i think i will probably grow out the thai plants i have going right now with the lame setup i have and flower for as long as i can to see what kind of yield i can get. i live in mass and they are still not done legislating the piss out of this thing so i really need to see what is going to be the end-all-choke-out by the gov't. my kid goes to school in maine. i may just have to help him set up something better in a state where they have a better hold on their regulations... fml.

Damn! Sorry to hear that. Alot of new medical states, i think, are getting ready for recreational legalization or are amending the current medical laws to work around eventual legalization. CO and WA are both having crazy laws passed as well as Illinois, NJ, Mass oviously. Im not sure if theyre setting it up so that the govt can maximize profits to make it worth it or just getting ready for the large switch of people who are the less "medical" patients to flip over to just recreational users.

Id still get my med card no matter where i went but it sucks that theyre tightening down everything.

i am thinking that it is the gov't trying to set it up to maximize profits. to start a dispensary in massachoochoo, you need a half million in the bank in addition to the 100k application fee and 50k a year for a license. something like that anyway(i have been up for nearly 24 hours so i am a little off). i have my medical recommendation from my doctor but the state has not gotten their act together so they are not issuing any med cards. fuckers...

hey fogey, i was looking at your journal backwards, so i prob. missed a lot of info. very nice and frosty!! curious though, it looks to me like you could have let them go for another couple weeks. what were your trichs looking like?

oldfogey8

Well-Known Member
i think i could have let them go a couple more weeks too shaggy. i harvested them when i did for a couple of reasons. my first mistake was stopping my nutes too early. my first grow i went too long with my nutes and the smoke took a really long time to stop tasting grassy since there was too much chlorophyl left when i took them so i was a nervous nelly. then when i got to the 8 week mark, i thought they looked like they were not progressing and that my sugar leaves were starting to look a little crispy. i was also under a little pressure(from myself) to harvest so the buds would be ready for my oldest son to bring some back to school with him. might have missed that window anyway but i tried. i also have some little seedlings that i wanted to get into my tent. i thought i had it timed so they would be ready to go in when the master kush was ready to harvest but since i was off in my estimates with them, it kind of screwed my whole plan up. one the positive side, i kind of like a lighter buzz and i find i get that with fewer amber trichs. i am a light weight too. a little smoke goes a long way for me. couch lock is ok once in a while but i like a buzz i can run about town and get errands done with. my sons prefer the couch lock thing but if they don't like my crop, they can take over and grow it themselves. so the trichs were mostly cloudy. a few clear and a few amber. if i had it to do over, i'd fertilize another week and a half and harvest maybe another couple weeks later. this is my second grow so i am still learning. one of those lessons is a big looking cola on the plant isn't going to be that big of a cola after it dries. my current grow is more thai like i grew my first go-round. i love the smoke(the kids do too - they are older teens so don't judge me, bro). they require patience and they don't beg to be harvested so i think i will get this one right. i am out of town again but will be home tomorrow and i will see how they dry is going and what kind of yield i have. i will post some pics too and hopefully i will have some smoke reports from my sons, cheech and chong. i am not sure if it is the norm, but the brownies i made from some coconut oil and the trimmings(not dried) give a really mellow buzz for 6 or 8 hours. kind of makes me feel really dumb which sometimes, isn't necessarily a bad thing...
