Going through the same thing... where to vent... I cut a 4 inch hole in my attic door...I know people say not to vent in the attic because of moisture... in my garage when I look up threw the attic.. I see where air is allow to escape..side venting..I figure it should be ok..

I personally believe you'll be totally fine with 4 inch out of the house.
I do things a bit differantly and instead pull in the cool night air vs exhaust the heat, but 4 inch intake of air dimming down till it isnt making noise and simply scrubbing the room with filters does fine for my 2500 ish current watts during the summer. During the winter I plug the vent entirely.
Unless your running a lot of watts I think it may be a case of overthinking and overemphasizing the heat output.
As long as you have a lot of fans moving the air and allowing the air to take the heat load, the air leaving the space can happen 1 time per min and the temps hardly change from the lights.

By Oct.1 things should be better for us garage growers...I think at least... mixed with night to morning grows... much cooler..so I’m flipping shortly.. 6 weeks will be Oct.1...should be good to go from them on out..

I have my exhaust spliced into my home hvac system to heat my house for free in the winter, works out wonderfully. For me it seems my winter bill is average for others in the area even while running a room, harvesting what would otherwise be waste. I think everyone to be creative and think a little outside the box on this topic. I've known people personally with 20kw grows in the summer in a garage that didnt use ac at all and were very successful. Learning how to get the best into the air and cycle the air properly can save lots and lots of money.

Fyi, if drilling a hole for a 4” pipe, galvanized or the like, get a 4 1/8” hole saw. If you get a 4” it will be too tight, same applies to a 6”.

Yup the hole saw I have is 4 1/8 but now I'm probably gonna do a 6in with the same concept in mind. I have a contractor friend doing the job and he is aware of what I'm doing.

You better have a good sized exhaust fan to push all that air thru a 6" duct. How far is the exhaust traveling? I would stick with the 4" personally, parts are easy to get and you'll have more air velocity.

If you're venting into a garage then your putting that heat into the same garage that you're pulling intake air in from. I have a tent in the garage and unless it's the middle of winter I need to vent out of the garage or else it gets too hot. The goal is to get rid of the heat. If you vent back into the same room the tent is in then you're recycling the heat back into the tent.Why vent at all?
If your worrying about smell (it really doesn't smell until the last couple of weeks) in a garage you own, don't bother.
If your venting because of heat. don't bother venting outdoors. just vent to the garage.
Save your energy and expend it on something important, like mowing your lawn

An average garage is around 15'x20', and venting a small tent into it should have little to no effect on the temps in that room,
What are we talking about, one 600 watt HPS?
I don't even understand why anyone would use a tent in a garage.

I have my tent up against the garage wall and just outside and near the ground is my exhaust port. So the length isn't to bad. My filter is up high and my vent goes straight out, one bend going directly down and then directly outside. Maybe 5 ft total. Going into a colder time so for now my intake will be hepa filtered garage air brought into the tent via 4" fan. Anyone have a recommendation for intake fan? And I'll mention again that I'm running 2 mars hydro sp250s LED so I will be supplementing my heat source. I'll be trying the 4" first and test how effective and noisy it will be and make adjustments as needed including cutting a 6" if needed.

Well I'm not running hps but instead LED. I'm using a tent not for any stealth reasons I just dont have anywhere else I can set up an environment. I have no more rooms in my small house and the garage is my only viable location. I plan on building a garden shed out back with power to be used as a grow room but that won't come to fruition for another year or two so for now I'm sticking with a fun small medical tent grow.

Well I have my tent in my garage because I don't have anywhere else to put it. I have a 2 x 4 veg tent inside the house but I don't have room for a 4 x 4 and I also don't want to listen to the exhaust fan running. I'm running a 600 watt HPS and when I vented into the garage the temps would go up. When I vent up through the attic and outside through a vent the temps drop significantly because I'm removing the heat from the light. But it all depends on the time of the year. In the winter I do vent into the garage because I actually want the heat at that time. End of summer and late spring I need to vent outside of the garage because of the ambient temperature. In the middle of summer when it's the hottest I don't even run the tent anymore because I can't keep the heat down and I'm not going to put an air conditioner in the garage to keep it cool and run it 24/7. I did use a portable air conditioner in the tent for awhile but now I just shut down and grow plants outside for a couple months. I'll bring them in and finish them off in the tent when the temps cool down some. It's not ideal but it's what I have to work with and so far I'm making it work.

What region are you in? This sounds like what I will be doing in the NW. What light are you using for veg?

I'm in the NW. Portland to be exact. I'm using a 4 ft 4 bulb T5 for veg. It doesn't put off much heat and does a great job. I keep my 2 x 4 veg tent in my office where I'm sitting right now. I could probably squeeze the flower tent in here but then I'd have to listen to the 6" exhaust fan which is something I'm not going to do.
It's basically just July and August that I shut down the tent in the garage but by then the weather is good outside so I don't run any lights inside and have plants outside in pots. Since it can get too cold and wet before plants finish outdoors here I'll put them into the flower tent to finish them off while I start another batch in the veg tent. I think I have the timing down so I'm hoping everything will work out as planned.

Very nice, I'm near Bellingham and am doing my outdoor now as well. And since I've recently got my medical card back I dont mind plants in my backyard. My flower tent is almost complete and I'm working on the logistics to my veg tent. I was thinking about holding a mother but think I'll rather just pop seeds or hunt quality clones to maintain a healthy veg tent. I'll probably run four 7gal smart pots using lst and/or a scrog net but I'd like to have good veg plants always ready to put into flower every 8 weeks. Slighty perpetual in a way but not one plant at a time.

Because furnace guys are in the family, reducing exhaust size will inhibit the the amount of air that is being pushed out and it will be hard on your fan motor so dont expect full life expectancy, i know it doesnt matter cause its just exhuast for a grow tent.....but everything matters when growing the bud!
