Drilling a hole in the side of my house

Hello I'm currently in the process of building a 5x5 grow tent inside my garage. At this point I'm working on my exhaust and my original plan was to cut a hole in my crawl space above but decided to do something similar to my furnace vent that goes outside. I own my home so I can do as I please. My question is how big should I cut the hole? I will be reducing my 8" ducting down to 6" then down to 4". I'd like feedback on if a 4" exhaust hole would be recommended or if I should go down to 3 or stay at 6.

Thank you,
Savvy

good idea never vent into a crawl space unless it is well vented. I would go with a 6 an a speed control.

Why vent at all?
If your worrying about smell (it really doesn't smell until the last couple of weeks) in a garage you own, don't bother.
If your venting because of heat. don't bother venting outdoors. just vent to the garage.
Save your energy and expend it on something important, like mowing your lawn :)

Bro it's not that hard to drill a hole. My wife AND I prefer to take a little effort to mask smell. I live in city limits. Venting into crawl spaces can cause more damage and outside is just easy. I was looking for thoughts on if I should cut a 4in or 6in not if I should or should not.

If she want's to talk to my wife about living with a pot grower, let's make them pen pals.
My wife in the beginning was so paranoid she was ridiculous, now she understands that it really doesn't smell that much (only during harvest), and has calmed down a lot..
Plus she loves my product, and we save a shitload (she loves to smoke) of money.
You sound like a newlywed, so I'll give you some free advice.
You must learn deceit for a successful marriage (you can thank me later).

4" hole is adequate, and how many grow's have you done?

I'm not newly wed I just have respect for my partner who doesn't smoke or care about pot at all. My garage is my hobby land and out of preference I'm choosing to vent with filtration. But hey thanks for the advise lol.

Really, don't worry about smell, just worry about ventilation and an exhaust to the outside is way overkill, but if you insist, have fun.
Good luck on your grow.

Some bad info on this thread..
Vent if ur not in a sealed room. Have it adaptable if your climate requires. I vent outside in summer inside in winter.
Some strains smell more than others- even in veg
A decent carbon filter will last years running 24/7. Trick is to not have the air move to fast thru it and buy larger than you need. When ur buying stuff always buy bigger than what you need and try to always buy decent gear- it ends up being cheaper in the long run.

Ignore this fuckin guy saying the grow wont smell till that last couple weeks or at harvest. What a load of BS. Be safe, use carbon filters, vent appropriately. I reduce to 4in from my 8 inch fans no problem, 6 would be better.
Haha ya I'm not new lol. And it's not hard drilling holes and running ventilation. But as Renfro was mentioning I was concerned with reduction down to a 4in from 8. I'd prefer not to chop an 8in hole in my wall but 6 maybe. However the standard dryer vent with outside cap for aesthetics are usually 4. Wonding if I could put a small inline fan at the end to work in conjunction with my 8in to help aid in the flow?

It just depends on your system. A hole too small to move the air is going to make noise. For myself I have my fan speed lowered to accommodate it, that's why I said the larger is better. Evey setup will need balanced to itself, theres no universal answer so to say. Your own heat exchange needs will dictate what's best for you
