DIY with Quantum Boards

There seems to be a lot of " HID LIGHT " thinking when building rigs for set spaces.
It makes ZERO SENSE to outfit tents with 900 w rigs ... The efficiency of the boards design trumps ( hate that fucking word but ... ) building mega rigs. For enclosed tent grows there is better results with smaller builds as the reflective nature of multipoint lights will grow your plants better.

@ttystikk brought up the chart that best shows there is a range or plateau were high PPF brings less desirable results. The Quantums are far more efficient than the old bulb way of thinking. Growers have grown full plants with one board ( me ) with a lousy 50W driver in a 3x3 ....... use HLG recommendations for coverage and you will be golden.
I see no reason trying to shoehorn a 550 rig into a tent. A balance of power / efficiency and eviromental temps is the key.

Some on here are complaining about temps ..... Which is crazy ... If you dim down the power slightly , the boards ACTUALLY get more efficient. These are NO WAY THE SAME AS HID.

You will get great PPF measure at around 18" from canopy. , if you allow adequate airflow within tent , the tge light penetration will push thru plant. A properly lit tent will have very little shadow areas. No movers needed , no spinning fucking plants or much adjusting.

My rigs have a static height that NEVER CHANGES ... I have Rachet ropes but I don't use them. I have over a 20" of ceiling space in each tent for cooling and airflow , I check for a proper negative pressure in tent and let it go. For " OPEN SPACE " growing is where large light rigs will shine with a larger footprint and optics. I grow with around 300w on any one rig ( and am able to go higher but no need ) I let plants tell me where they are comfortable- if I get praying or " horizontal leaf plane " then I leave it.

Me thinks people like taco and crispy leaves to show they got the juice , lol

You will find also that plants will grow more uniformly from corner to corner within tents as there is really no more " hot spotting " . With a little LST / Supercrop/ etc. you will find tops grow together without much effort.

Does a plant only have one Cola? Or are all nice big fat buds colas?

Why don't you get rid of those yellow leaves?

This was the other direction I considered for my 4 boards. 2 x qb288 and 2 x 240h-c2100b. Run one pair for gentle babies then turn on the other pair for something meaner. I decided to just be mean, with a dimmer.
Here here mean with dimmer
So they are a good option for what i am doing Jedi?
Also i saw a guy who linked drivers together minimising plugs and dimmers (am i right?)
Dont want to go and order to find out I have the wrong stuff
Thx again

I'm not sure what you refer to by "linking drivers". My recommendation is to watch some of LEDGardeners or Growmau5's YouTube videos. There are a couple with driver fundamentals you probably need to understand before you proceed

I'm not sure light movers may be as productive as they are with point sources that would have fixed shadows without movers.
The diffused light we produce with COBS and strips kind of hits all the leaves from all angles anyway.
I think your right unless the area is a elongated?? shape.

I LST autos mostly ... It allows the inner bud sites to grow out.
Autos typically have a Dom cola but you can top some strains and even LST them around pot perimeter ( lay sideways ) and get buds to shoot up that way too. Check the specifics of your strain , pheno types can vary , even from same batch . Breeders will state alpha / beta tested runs but take that with a grain of salt. I tend to tether the more Sativa dominate strains to control height.

As I mentioned, I bitch slap them into " shape " then let the Quantums carry on.

As far a yellow leaves ... They will fall . Sometimes I pinch them .
With regular seeds , I lollipop them a little . But haven't SCROG anything lately.

Pop wants to run the boards full bore with a light mover. that way the center of the space doesn't get a full photon blast at all times

How much money is saved by doing DIY qb's vs buying a qb? I was looking at the HLG 550 but those cost 1050$ each, how much would it be in general to DIY (like a hundred$, 500$?)

Also, how difficult would it be to DIY an HLG 550 on my own / is there a guide?

I think there are some legit suppliers but its not a risk I would take. Not that I'm slagging that company off.
But if I were an American I would sooner buy from the USA and from someone I could speak to on here.
As it happens I'm not American but I still went with HLG because they were simple to deal with the first time around.
You have to take the import tax and delivery into account, for me that's neither here nor there since I'm not in the USA but for you Americans its something that has to be factored in.

I suppose its also a question of how much can I save going elsewhere vs do I want to spin the wheel of fortune? You know with HLG your getting exactly what you should be getting, the diodes and thermal management is what it should be.

Not that I frown upon all those looking at all the different boards going about at this moment. To each his own. bongsmilie

Look good to me on the price and I’m using the 312 boards from them right now. Considering these are Samsung chips that are not made in the USA , I’m ok buying them cheaper. Considering hlg only stocks the flagship model for a ridiculously expensive price, makes sense for them not to sell anymore kits lol or smaller lights , ever notice how all the other boards are sold out , but it takes those boards to build their big light? I’m just showing an alternative to expensive companies getting rich by selling a China light, same thing hlg is doing , they don’t make these chips.

Stay away from the alibaba bullshit it’s not worth it
tru dat stay away from chinese knockoffs on these.

do what I did get 2 260wQB kits for 325 each and right there you got the equivalent of an HLG550 and get them in the 3000k spectrum good to go from veg to flower in 1 tent.

He's asking about HLG's boards, not your alibaba imitations. Don't promote other companies boards in this thread! Would you want people promoting other people's crap in your thread if you were a business? Start your own thread!
