DIY with Quantum Boards

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to @Stephenj37826 and @robincnn

Finished my first run with 4x 250w XL Quantum Boards in a 4x8, 304's @3000k sitting about 24" above the canopy with an actual draw of 700w's from the wall. I'm used to running 1200w HPS. Through flowering and harvesting I've noticed an improvement in all aspects of my bud, its denser, frostier and the terps are louder. I ran 19 different strains, a few shots

The QB 120's are a perfect replacement for CFL. The light is more diffuse and a lower PPFD than the 304 or 288. Also, I've sprouted and grown plants from seed to harvest under a dimmed QB288. This was in a small cabinet, with only 28" of height.

CFL's would be better IMHO for sprouts. even turned down, I think the QB's are strong not to mention after about 60% I think they change spectrum away from blue.

I don't have to feed my sprouts for weeks, and water only when needed.

here is a trick I learned: once the sprouts are ready to move, about 2-3 weeks.

pre-load the pro-mix(whatever) with light nuets. this is enough feeding to last month+, look at my new veg, I have not feed them once, well besides pre-loading the pro-mix.

by pre-loading you get a nice even mix, and IMHO in my mind at least helpss the roots grow out, as it needs more nuets.

or try a soil mix next time, so you don't have to worry about feeding them just water once or twice a week.

@numberfour have have you dimmed your boards to have 4x250’s only pulling 700watts? What’s your yield looking like from that tent and all those strains?
4 drivers dimmed
a (3) - Copy.jpg

each driver reading 175 watts

Great yield, filled my usual hanging space.

@numberfour very nice indeed! 19 strains too, nice one. you runnin the same EC for all of the plants?
Thanks @lukio I enjoy pheno hunting and variety. In soil, hand watering, no ec / ph

Just snagged a 320 watt HLG QB
How high above the canopy should you run them? Is it better to run the board close to the canopy on dim or high from the canopy on full power? Thanks

I really like this idea, in a 5k IMHO I would like a 6k for light vegging.

but I think its a little high priced, these things would be great at $65.00-$75.00
I use a 5K Q Board for veg and it's really fine as it is. Plants are short and bushy, which is what I wanted, due to height restrictions (my veg space is only 60 cm high = 2 feet).
I don't really see the benefit of going above 5K ime

Aargh....

Just got used to learning about COBs, now I need to put a learning on quantum boards.

anyone have any quantum board DIY build Suggestions for a 5'x5' flower area? Height is approximately 6', in a basement - heat won't be an issue. Will be grown in 5 gallon buckets in coco/perlite. Already have a COB veg area set up, so let's make this JUST FOR FLOWING.

Thank you in advance,

Better late than never.:bigjoint:

I feel your pain @Cedru
I also learned alot on Cobs and was ready to get some but then I learned of these Quantum Boards and never looked back.
for a 5x5 dedicated flower space thats alot of space to cover. I could throw some diy kits at you with 2 or 3 boards each to fit it.

check out the 260watt kits they now have 3 different configurations. I think 4 of the 260 watt or the 260 XW or even the 260 XL side by side

Question: I am thinking of buying some QB's from Steve. Do they work well on Sativa's? I heard that the LED yellow's Sativa leaves pretty good. Can anyone confirm this? Many thanks!
