You aren't considering that a person may use two different intake sources for air. To cool your lights the hot air from outside on a hot summer day is more than capable of cooling your lights, but you may not want to be pumping in 90f 80rh air into your room. You may cool your lights with outdoor air and exchange air with your home to keep the plants more easily in ideal ranges without AC/dehumidifiers attached to your grow area.
I'm drawing air through (3) 6" passive intakes. 540cfm Tjernlund fan with speed controller set at lowest setting mounted inside of tent pulls air from next to hood and pushes through cool-tube and out the top of the tent. No filter or carbon as of yet. I will upload a pic this evening.
Yeah I was surprised at how cool the exhaust coming out of the cool-tube was. Not at all what I expected

i do this kind of. i pull through the filter, then push through the light.
Makes sense. I read that HPS bulbs don't perform as well if they are cooled off too much. Is that something to worry about with cool-tubes?
