Yep 3.9 might be a deal breaker. For example, if the HLG-185H-C1400 can only put out 900-1000mA for 4 Vero29s in series, it is putting out less current than the HLG-185H-C1050 would AND the HLG-185H-C1050 can run 5 Vero29s.

One solution could be to use the HLG-185H-36A and run the 4 Veros in parallel. That way you will get about 1.38A to each Vero29 and the current can't runaway on you because you can set the max voltage screw at 37.5V, which would effectively limit the current to about 1.75A for a Vero29.
great use of the A version voltage dimmer! lol but knowing me I would forget and later turn the voltage back up all the way when I'm ready to flip for flower.

Yes, well, no. You can put 5 V29 on 185H-C1050, I have done that. I was always wondering if 4 V29 would work on 185H-C1400. Same goes for 3 V29 on 120H-C1400. Apparently it does, although I haven't seen it yet.

i'm asking me that question so damn bad, that i just had to sign in ...

..first at all i'm new in this forum and my english istn t that good at all.

i'm planing to build up a little hidden box with 50x70x120cm. with 4 or 6 plants?...wich is about 20"x28"x48".
after weeks of reading, i went from the vero 3,5k to the cxb3070 3.5k and was betweeen vero 4k and cxb3590 3,5

at least i just bought 3 x Vero 29 4k .....-23

after i read/watched through this thread i would better been gone with the cxb3590..lol
maybe for the next run..

anyway..

now i'm just between hlg 120h-1400a and 185h-1400a...to power my 3 vero's in line...has anybody exp. with 3x in the hlg120 ?..as i interprate the graph i won't have the max "power" with the hlg120..at least its 2,97 in the graph..

i can tell u decision is really pain in the ass for me...

does anyone have another great idea to run this system with the 3 veros? are the ~150w from the hlg120h enough for ther actual veros at 1,4A?

sorry for interfere you...

Hi Dr Gruen, welcome to RIU
I think if I had that grow box and already had thet 3 Vero cobs I would buy one moe vero for better spacing, and run this driver HLG-185H-36A, if you wanted more power I would go with HLG-240H-42(A or B)

thanks for your fast report...

isnt 5.2 A too much for the vero?

or would you still go with 1,4 A ? or move higher...? donnt wanna loose to much eff.

u think it could be worth spending more money in the cxb 3590 3,5k for this projekt?

dont want to build ultra hightech..but i want to earn some reward for the time and love i spent in this.. ;)

he means wire in paralel

so 5.2/4=1.3 A each

but i dont think thats the best way

use ur 3 veros and put it on a whatver driver works

i guess the 120 will work its 150w dunno the volts of the vero

The CXB3590 is a better cob, and benefits from more efficiency gain when driver with less power than the Vero. The Vero 29 will not lose as much eficiency when driven slightly harder.
The driver I recommend is different style that the one you mentioned. It has constant voltage. The driver I recommend takes the 5.2A current and divides it between the cobs. This means that 4 cobs will get 1.3A each if you run 4 of them in parallel. The mpre cobs you run the less they will get each. Constant current drivers like the hlg-120h-1400a will give same current to all the cobs that will fit within the voltage range it allows. The Vero has a higher Vf and so the constant Voltage drivers are a better choice I believe.
If you were starating from the beginning I would recommend the CXB3070 or the CXB3590

ah alright i see...thanks for that!

i think i will go with the 120 at first..just to keep it simple and dont shred my money...:)
I would go with the 185, and when you are ready you can run 4
CXB3590s perfectly with it, until then you can dim the current down as needed

Some parallel options
HLG-120H-36A can run 3 Vero29s at 1.23A each or a pair at 1.85A each
HLG-185H-36A can run 4 Vero29s at 1.38A each or 3 at 1.84A each or a pair at 2.76A each
HLG-240H-36A can run 4 Vero29s at 1.56A ea or 3 at 2.1A each

.thanks again for your support..i'm quite new in LED technics... do you mean the internal dimming to switch between 1,4 - 0,7 oder do you mean to dim
the 200W output? Cant i just conect the cables and run them with 1,4A ? the driver will just put out the power i need for the 3 vero? or do i have some brain damage?

the parallel options looking quite nice...is it possible to connect parallel with the molex ezmate cable?

thanks for support guys!

If you get (A) type driver then you use internal dimmer, and it can dim to 50%, if you get (B) type driver then external dimmer (100K pot) and dimming can be to 10%.

If you run the parallel driver (eg HKG-185H-36)it puts out full current and the cobs divide it. If you do the series driver (eg HLG-185H-C1400), then you get about 50 watts to each cob regardless of how many you wire up, up to the max voltage the driver will output.

I am not familiar with the molex cable. I think thats something that is proprietary to the Vero?
I havent ever used the Vero cob.
It looks like it has red and black wires, so just attach all the reds together and the blacks together however you choose like with a wago or other connector to the drivers output wires that are red and black

Bonjour
It is ok but you can run 5 cxb3590 with this driver...I give you my 185 against the 240 if you want...lol!
CU
can i put 5 instead of 4 on that heatsink also passive...and what you mean you will give me your 185 against the 240..lost a little I'm sorry..how man cobs can i run not that heat sink wight that 240

I think he is offering a trade
oh lol.. I'm trying to make a order.. so i was gonna order 12 cob cxb 3590 3500k cd and put 4 each on 5.886'' wide heatsink 38'' ..i wanna run it passive and was gonna order 3 hlg240h-c1400a..and run 4 bobc on each ..does what I'm saying make sense ..was also going to get ideal holders with glass lens at 80 degrees
