Cloning Without Rooting Hormone?

Is it possible to clone without a rooting hormone? Like directly plant the cutting into soil.
 
Dude, I'm with you, I'm poor right now til I get back to work. You do not have to use the gel at all, but it sure helps.

Your shoot should be actively growing in order to root the best, it's the draw on the stems reserves after taking the cutting that force it to root. If the cutting wasn't hungry it would never root.

* for those too stoned* to assemble the bubbler/cloner, Just put your cuttings in some plastic cups with water and occasionaly top up the water or replace it.Nothing sophisticated or high tech here.

I say becouse we overcomplicate things.Cloning in a plain glass of water is an old method that does work.

Some of us see drawbacks to the method. After the roots form you still have to plant it. if you are not using soil, this can be a problem.
 
Hey VictorVicious, after I commented, I thought it through, and I am admittedly ignorant on hydro, so please enlighten me a little here, if you cloned in a glass of water, and got roots started.....you cant use this in hydro?

I'm with you on this:), even if it is than a bit trick to plant if you use grodan or other substitutes:roll:
 
As for using the Cup and Water as a Clone Rooter, Would it have to have Constant water? Would you be able to put it in the light without the roots fuckin up? Would you have to have a cover over top to keep light out????

Whats the best way to go about at it? Steps?
 
Hey Video, I use coco as a growing medium so i would have to support the stem to hold the roots in place until they reach out enough to support themselves. I looked at that cloning for dummies post in another forum. The gentleman that posted it wasn't able to asnwer the question about planting in anything but soil so I haven't tried it yet.
I will try and do some that way for my next grow. I know the method works, my mom has done that with house plants for years.
 
I've clone 6cuttings with no rooting hormone. Had my own thread with tv exact same title too. Keep the temps warm all the time & keep humidity high. Air them out twice a day & keep lights on them till they root. Clones take a bit longer to root but will certainly root if you watch over them.

Rooting hormone just speeding up the process. Trust it's possible.
 
They do make these round " pellet " style plugs, that are split down the side. All you have to do is slide the cutting in the side and close it up! They are very handy, especially since its frustrating to insert a cutting into a peat pellet or rockwool and have your gel or powder rub off. Ah here they are, they are called " grodan stonewool macro plugs" they are about 9 or 10 dollars for 30.

well i tuck a load of cuttin couple weeks bk an just left them in a cup of water an a lid on it so no sun light hit the water bout 3 weeks l8er after just leaving em on window tha had all rooted (water wasnt even ph'ed ) so id say yes u can clone with out any hormone
