I've read that earth worms and black soldier fly larvae (probably many other decomposer) can destroy pathogens in their gut.
I don't have a reference, but I saw a study that showed earth worms alone breaking down pathogens.
Black Soldier Fly larvae break down meat and manure really well.
Does this mean the plant will have three colas when it is done?
I've been using 5 gallon smart-pots and was thinking it may be a better use of my soil to try putting 3 plants in a fifteen gallon smart-pot. Sub, have you ever used larger pots for more plants? I'm looking at some large pots that are much wider that high, and am thinking about making them small grow beds. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Hey Sub....I know this is an old thread, but I just started growing a few Sativas, and they are fox tailing like crazy, and I know its from the light intensity, thanks to you. I figured it was cause of stress of some sort. Well, I just got a bunch of SpaceJill seeds, Chernoybl seeds, and JTR seeds. Do I need to worry about any of these fox tailing? I'm in a Secret Jardin grow tent, with 600W's, and heat in not a problem....just intense light. I'll keep everything 12 inches or so below the light, should I have anything to worry about? Thanks for your help, your strains, your book, everything you do!!!!!

Mr Cool, Have you ever tried hanging your lights vertical?
I am running 3 kabooms and just started flowering them with 2-1K HPS hung bare and vertical about a week ago. This my first grow so I am not sure what to expect but they all are growing at a seemingly fast rate. If I can find my camera I will post some pics. Also, I vegged them for 2 months in 1 gallon pots/soil under 160watts CFL... They never did get very big.

Subcool nice thread. Wish i found it before i started my current grow. I got 6 NL under a 600 hps veged for 6 weeks and currently at 35 days flowering. I topped at the 5th node and the 2 top shoots were tied down as far as they could go. All the other shoots were tied outwards.
This is my 2nd proper grow and first time topping and tying and i was expecting 2.5 oz a plant. Do you think i will get more then? The canopy looks really level and conditions are good. Light is about 8 - 10 inches from top.

Hey sub - If you use 2 bales in ur recipe then that would be 1/2 strength compared to if you use 8 bags of soil. Roots bags are 1.5 cuft which is 7.5 gallons of soil, in a bale of sunshine mix is a 3.8 cuft COMPRESSED bag that expands out to almost 7.2 cuft of soil. so if u used 2 then you would have almost 16 bags of roots soil so one would need to double up all the ingredients to make the same strength, which would lead to having to mix nutes up towards the end.

hey Sub,Great articles.I was wondering how using the 7 gallon nursery pots work for a outdoor crop?I live on the cali central coast (25 miles inland) & it can get pretty hot in the summer.I plan on using your supersoil recipe next year.I'm using 2/3 ffof & 1/3 roots organic in the ground this year.My Flav plants are really takin off, about 3' tall and almost as wide.I'll post pics as soon as I can get an adapter.Thanks again for the tips.

I wouldnt use anything smaller than a 20 broseph, ive seen people using 45 up to 100 gal pots... check the outdoor section on this site

You say to tie them down when you put in flower, why not during veg? I was planning on supercropping then tie em up after about 30 days, mine vegg for 60.

I feel growing in pots outdoors misses the best of what nature has to offer,
Dig massive holes in ground and fill with Super soil.

I was just curious as to why you choose topping over other canopy management methods such as LSTing? I would think that LSTing would produce a much bigger yield in the fact that you can end up with dozens of tops vs 2-4 with topping? Have you done any experimentation with LSTing or other canopy management methods? If so what was your end results/Pros and Cons of each method? I'd like to go with the method that typically produces the largest yield.
