You can demand they find you a doctor to sign. :)
I did.....but you have to be prepared to be "dicked" around...to some extent....
for instance my first referral from my GP which was to a Dr.Sol....I later figured DR. Sol...was an acronym for Shit- Outta-Luck....after 18 or more month's elapsed and I had not gotten an appointment scheduled...
and I did ask a number of times when I saw my Doctor....what was up and I was told..."he is very very busy....
since he signs the forms"....
so I kept waiting....Finally I called my GP on it again....and My GP just handed me a blurry photocopied page of doctors names and numbers....who were cannabis friendly....and said to call them myself....
I took the page and left....
within 4 weeks I had gotten an appointment with a doctor....thru a lawyer...who was also linked to a consultant....
from off the page she had given me...
mind you I was charged thru the nose for their services....

It's just the way the system works. They are passing laws these days that take more control over what doctors are allowed to prescribe, how they handle abortions, etc.

its time government...gets a big reduction in the influence it can have on peoples lives....
someone or some party needs to run on a "conscience" based platform...
where the actual decisions are made by those involved and not someone...who knows squat and has been
appointed "Minister of something"...or by civil servants who have been bought off by one party or another....
ITS TIME FOR ACCOUNTABILITY>>>>>and not the kind Harper ran under the guise of last time around....
he has done nothing but break all of those accountability issues.....Guess what Stevie....the Canadian popultion would like to let you know ....your fired....

Unless your in the medical industry you really cant understand all that entails. I have a dea license allowing me do what i do, should i lose that or any other requirement i will no longer have a job in this field, anywhere.. the consequences of not covering your ass in this industry are perhaps the harshest of any. And the population has no clue what goes on behind the scenes making matters worse. No doctor or whatever would purposely deny you something they believed would benefit. They are good people, becoming a doctor doesnt make you loose ideals and crap...
Not all doctors are good people. In fact, as a profession it has the highest % of sociopaths in a study I saw not too long ago. Most of those unfortunately reside at the top of the food chain in positions of power. A lot are surgeons as well. I've met more than a few having grown up with doctors around me most of my life, including at least one in my own family.

So, yeah, as a rule, most of them are well intentioned. However, they are also human and most humans will subject to threats of punishment (over 80%) and those who offer those threats are generally sociopaths. So, the profession as a whole has a major credibility issue with this particular subject (amongst others).

That 80% who submits to these sociopaths (I'm basing that number on prior psychological studies done indicating 80+% of folks will do almost anything if threatened harshly enough by entities they believe to be powerful) would be a lot better served fighting their current system and speaking out against it in the long run, but too few people are willing to take the risk.

There are doctors who will do the right thing, bureaucracy be damned - or even more, my own doc takes the position that he will fight the bureaucracy or my dad who just doesn't give a shit what the bureaucracy thinks, he does what's right for his patients. Yes, he has a quite a few MMJ patients - in part because of the field he's in (digestive health).

Unfortunately doctors who do the right thing are not large in numbers. And isn't necessarily because they're evil people - although those who are forcing them into a tough decision certainly are - but it's because they are fearful of their own livelihood. Which is an incredibly human reaction.

They're passing laws today that take more control from everyone, the medical field of course is no exception. We're headed on a fast track towards authoritarian hell. The Mernagh case was an incredibly horrible ruling for this point actually as it basically said that your doctor (with enforcement from government) has final say over what goes in your body, not you.
