Since marijuana is being legalized in a number of states across the U.S. for recreational and medical purposes, the presence of a device that could measure the level of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in an individual has become the need of the hour.

Yahoo News confirms that a Canada-based firm, Cannabix Technologies, Inc., is in the final stages of developing such a breathalyzer device, which will be able to measure the THC levels. THC is a psychoactive element present in cannabis. Cannabix hopes to become the first company to launch their product in the market before their competitors.

Cannabix has not revealed the timeline for when the product will be released for commercial use. However, officials say that the product is currently undergoing internal testing, and a patent has not been issued yet.

Meanwhile, other companies are also trying to develop a cannabis breathalyzer, including Lifeloc Technologies, Inc. "I think the first breathalyzer on the market will be a simple 'yes' or 'no' for the presence of THC at the time of the test, and in that sense it won't provide a quantitative evidential measure," said Lifeloc's CEO Barry Knott, in a statement.

The official launch of a cannabis breathalyzer will eliminate the need to conduct urine and blood tests to assess the amount of THC in an individual's system. A cannabis breathalyzer has become all the more essential due to marijuana legalization. The device is expected to provide an easy way for the law agencies to track people who smoke pot and drive.

So far, there has been no consensus in the U.S. regarding the safe limit for the drivers to smoke pot and drive "safely." While in Montana and Washington, a limit of five nanograms per milliliter limit is imposed, there is no specified limit at all in a number of states.

If it can't show impairment it isn't worth fuck all. Roadside sobriety test are the only way to prove marijuana impairment. The fact it's in your system means nothing. At least in Canada it does. Some states have set thc impairment levels that can be measured via piss or blood test. They are set quite low.

But I'm sure the pricks who don't use MJ will weasel something thru even if it's a guess at your impairment.

i was at the Dr yesterday and he was telling me how MMJ isn't used for insomnia...I am not sure what he said after that because all i heard was blah blah blah....they sure don't try to educate themselves! they push and push the "new drug" that the Pharma companies give to them as samples...and THEN they find out they were wrong and the drug is bad.
i just said to the Doc-you have your opinion and I have mine. good thing I have a MJ friendly Doc to sign paperwork!
I really wish they would look at what everyone else is saying from experience instead of the "reefer madness" crap

There has been dozens of cases of people being pulled over for smoking mmj while driving.
It goes both ways, but the last one I saw in the news the guy exhaled in the officer's face at a road stop and after all their tests all they could charge him with was possession of marijuana, because they had 0 proof he was impaired in any way. This is the reality; driving high doesn't necessarily impair your driving. Can it? Certainly. But I would gander that 75% of strains aren't an issue.

not used for insomnia eh.???... tell him it helps with understanding though and he needs to try it.
It'll help him with the understanding, that he's a moron. :)

i chose to walk away...you can tell when some Dr's will not see the light and for sure he was one. he said "you can fool yourself into believing....." and that showed me that no way was he interested in listening

my doctor sent a referral to another doctor and that doctor refused the referral.
I ended up having to just go to a completely different doctor to get it sorted out.

i don't need one..I have a Dr who will sign the papers but that's not my GP.

and you'll see where i mention that.
it's also not that easy to get a new GP here in BC. it took a few years to get one. went to a lot of them and they said no to helping. we were free to go to walk in clinics.
